“American Idol” may be a platform for aspiring unknown singers to showcase their talent outside of their bedrooms, but some contestants may have an advantage over others: being born into famous families.
Season 21 has already shown several so-called “Nepo Babies” — contestants with ties to the entertainment business — competing for the crown, including Kaya Stewart, daughter of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics (pictured).
“With all your different opportunities and connections and stuff, how did you even land on ‘American Idol?’” Judge Katy Perry asked before her audition.
It’s a fair question, but “nepo babies” competing on “American Idol” is nothing new. In the past, the offspring of parents with varying backgrounds from music, acting, sports, and politics have all found their way in front of the judges.

Claudia Conway is auditioning for a ticket to Hollywood on the upcoming season of “American Idol.”
16-year-old Conway, whose parents are former Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway and Lincoln Project co-founder George Conway, quickly became a trending topic on Twitter Monday night after she was featured in a commercial for the singing competition show.
“American Idol” then confirmed Conway’s appearance, writing: “You heard that right. @ClaudiaMConwayy is looking for a golden ticket. Find out Sunday if she has what it takes to be #TheNextIdol on #AmericanIdol.”

Tonight marks the 40th Annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, taking place on the Esplanade tonight. The fireworks are set to start at 9:30 P.M., after the concert has ended. The concert features singers like Ellis Hall and American Idol semifinalist Ayla Brown. This year's celebrations, according to Reuters, have been "tighter than ever" due to the Boston Marathon bombing in April. There are a number of checkpoints for people to pass through, and there is reportedly a lot of surveillance to make sure everything goes off without a hitch.

Pity poor Jennifer Lopez. American Idol‘s Season 11 Hollywood Week proved so grueling for the Gigli star that she was forced to abandon her standard-operating spangled culottes and midriff-baring blouse and don a fluffy gray bathrobe for the annual “Holding Rooms of Doom” portion of the competition. Was J.Lo feverish, the latest victim of human petri dish Amy “Tent Dweller” Brumfield? Did she swaddle herself in cushy fabric to soothe her aching joints from the full-scale assault of hollering and caterwauling that occurred during Hollywood’s final solo round? Or was she simply trying to prepare us all for...

Call off the search dogs. Lower our security threat level back down to chartreuse. Our long national nightmare of not knowing the full Top 24 on "American Idol X" finally ended Thursday night (February 24), as Seacrest & Co. spent 14 hours reading 19 names. (Apparently "Idol" was just getting us in the mood for Sunday night's Oscar telecast.)
When the dust finally settled and the also-rans were told to mind the gap as they boarded the "Idol" Obscurity Train (Erin Kelly, Tiwan Strong, Brittany Mazur and Jimmie Allen, meet your conductors Vanessa Wolfe, Erskine Walcott and Hadas), "Idol" fans were left with a promising batch of 24 hungry young singers. And in an "AI" first, all 24 semi-finalists were profiled over the course of the two "big reveal" episodes. (Although, how could they not be in three hours of televison?!)

For the first time in 10 seasons, "American Idol" hit Milwaukee for an audition round. Milwaukee: Best known for cheese, beer and Danny Gokey. To honor the occasion, I'm drinkin' a brewsky (imported, natch), nibbling on some cheddar, (Cheez-Its, natch) and I don't plan on ever, ever shutting up.
Mr. Gokey returned to "Idol" during Wednesday night's (January 26) audition episode, happily telling hopeful contestants, "In a moment your life can change, you guys!" He's right — it only takes an instant (and a tragic back story) to turn you into the target of "Idol" bloggers' venom and resentment.
Which brings us to Chris Medina, the most polarizing contestant since the Gokester. (I know Julie Andrews says, "Let's start at the very beginning," but she's not the boss of me. I'm doing this blog "Memento" style, starting at the end and working my way back. Deal with it, Maria von Trapp.)

The second week of "American Idol" is about to kick off, so let's review what we've learned from season 10 so far: Steven Tyler has taught us the value of a sound bite, Jacee Badeaux and Brett Loewenstern taught us not to judge on first impressions alone, and Randy Jackson taught us ... well, let's not get carried away. Ayla Brown is sort of famous for two reasons:
1) She was semifinalist on Season 5 of "American Idol."
2) She's the daughter of senator and former partially-nude model Scott Brown, who famously told the world she was single during his 2010 acceptance speech.
Not having much success with pop music following "Idol" -- three poorly-selling albums and the boot from her label -- Brown now hopes two reinvent herself as a country artist.
Her father tells the AP that she's moving to Nashville, where music producers "want to work with her." He says little about her intended shift in genre, only that he supports both of his daughters "as long as they're safe and healthy and using their heads."
Aww, what a good dad. What a good, really handsome dad.

Earlier today, "American Idol" announced that they were lowering their age limit to allow 15-year-olds to audition. Well that makes sense, since season nine's youngsters — Aaron Kelly, Haeley Vaughn and Katie Stevens — all exuded professionalism and mega-talent under pressure. (Rolls eyes.)
I don't mean to slam Aaron and Katie personally. In fact, both of those recent contestants have knocked my socks off post-"Idol." Aaron displayed some legitimate songwriting chops and Katie's vocals during the finale were as good — if not better — than her co-star Christina Aguilera. But during the competition, both of those contestants received criticisms from the judges that suggested they should have honed their craft and experienced life for a few more years before standing center stage in front of 30 million people. It's hard to get judged when you're 25, and it's a hundred times harder when you're a sensitive 15-year-old.

Some fathers get shirts, ties or socks for Father's Day. But one of Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown's gifts from his daughter Ayla Brown was an interview for the CBS "Early Show."
It starts off puffy enough with baby photos, basketball tossing, ice cream treats, motorcycle riding. But then his old Cosmo spread flashes on the screen and Ayla -- a Season Five "American Idol" semi-finalist - hits Scott hard with the tough questions.
Will he run for President and why did he embarrass Ayla and her sister on national TV in his 2010 victory speech, by telling all the fellas watching from home that his daughters were "available?"
"it was strictly as a joke," her dad assured her. "I'm not worried about you or Arianna.... I was just trying to be funny."

The "American Idol" winner dropped by Kiss 108's radio event at Rowes Warf in Boston Friday, May 21 to sing a couple of songs, laugh a little and charm with his laid back ways.
The reality show champ kept things simple with a little friendly banter with the "Matty in the Morning" DJ. Allen will be participating in the Kiss 108 concert the next day (May 22).
He sang "Live Like We're Dying," which you can check out at Mj's Big Blog, but also "The Truth," which we like better and better the more we hear it.

Reality TV already made its stamp when "American Idol" contestant Ayla Brown's father Scott Brown won the Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat vacated by Ted Kennedy's death. But with the retirement of Rep. David Obey of Wisconsin's seventh district -- who is also the House Appropriations Committee Chairman and fourth-longest-serving House member -- another reality show might be joining Capitol Hill -- "The Real World."
Obey has announced that he will not seek re-election in November, leaving the door wide open for the Republican challenger, who is none other than Ashland D.A. Sean Duffy, former "Real World: Boston" cast member and husband to Rachel Campos Duffy of "Real World: San Francisco." The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel calls Sean Duffy a front-runner now that Obey has announced his retirement.

Ayla Brown, semi-finalist from "American Idol" and daughter of the newly-elected Republican Senator from Massachusetts Scott Brown, has landed herself a TV gig just weeks before she graduates from Boston College.
The Associated Press is reporting that Brown will be a producer, focusing on producing pieces for a youth audience. The show became interested in her after she appeared on "The Early Show" back in January. Executive Producer David Friedman says, "You can't create the next Katie Couric, you just have to find the talent that you think can develop into something."
Interesting that he cites Katie Couric, the long-time "Today" host. We know she's not on the CBS Evening News, but her morning show roots were at the Peacock and not the Eye. Perhaps Friedman should've said the next Julie Chen?
Ayla will be following in her mother Gail Huff's television footsteps, as Gail is currently a reporter for Boston's ABC affiliate.

"American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi's dad, a former congressman, is looking to re-enter the political picture.
Joseph DioGuardi, who served two terms in the House of Representatives in the 1980s, is considering a run for one of New York's U.S. Senate seats. DioGuardi, a Republican, is expected to announce his campaign next week, the AP reports.
The seat he's running for is currently held by Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand, who was appointed in 2009 after Hillary Clinton left the Senate to become Secretary of State. Whoever wins the special election in November will serve until 2012, then will have to run again to serve a full six-year term.
DioGuardi, a certified public accountant, could be part of a potentially crowded Republican primary field. One other candidate, Bruce Blakeman, has already said he's running, and former New York Gov. George Pataki is also thinking about a run, as is former George W. Bush...

The New Republic is now suggesting that America is entering a new era of nepotism in which the children of politicians would like to be famous artists on MySpace Music and ABC Family instead of just famous-for-dc U.S. Senators. The Kids Today are eschewing the instability of political dynasties for relative sure-things like cameo-only television careers. It’s an important political sea change that’s happening in Washington and Hollywood! Using Ayla Brown and Bristol Palin as examples because it’s possible there aren’t any other specimens of this trend, Tnr argues: “[W]e now reached the point where—with the lines between pop-culture and politics blurring and all types of fame getting smooshed together (Hillary in Vogue? Al Franken in the Senate? Tom DeLay on ‘Dancing With the Stars’?)—being the child of a political celebrity can provide a fast track to actual celebrity? I mean, why settle...

Forget health care. Scott Brown's first task as a newly elected senator: get his daughter back on American Idol. After his stunning victory in Massachusetts earlier this month, the media-savvy politico sat down with Barbara Walters on ABC's This Week and said he'd like Simon Cowell and his Idol cronies to give Ayla Brown another shot. Ayla, a 21-year-old Boston College student, was eliminated after she made it to the Top 16 in 2006 (the season Taylor Hicks won). But despite his newfound power, Brown faces an uphill battle. After all, Cowell was hardly a fan, characterizing Ayla's song-and-dance routine as "robotic." Ouch. Sill, Sen.-elect Brown is...

(Showbiz runs in the family; click Here to watch the awesome 80s music video her mother starred in.) Ayla was 17 when she tried out for American Idol and, after making it through a few rounds, was so devastated when she was eliminated that "cried hysterically backstage" and the show sent a counselor to make sure she was alright. Ayla Brown, daughter of newly-elected U.S. Senator Scott Brown and former "American Idol" semi-finalist, is coming to "The Early Show."
According to the CBS News site, Ayla Brown will perform "Pick It Up" live on the air Tuesday, Jan. 26. Brown has shot to fame recently due to her father's Senate race, colorful past, off-the-cuff availing of his daughters to eligible suitors and people realizing she was an "American Idol" semi-finalist.
We were fans of Ayla on "Idol" and thought she was good enough to make the Top 12 that year, but she just missed out. We will definitely be tuning into "The Early Show" on CBS to see if she's still got it -- we suspect that she does.

Welcome to politics, Brownie.
Animal New York got the above photo from a tipster, so feast your eyes on just exactly what newly-elected U.S. Senator Scott Brown's daughters Ayla and Arianna have to offer.
Brown made a reference to his daughters being "available" in his victory speech last night, but was quickly corrected by Arianna that she actually is Not available.
However, "American Idol" semi-finalist fdaughter Ayla is most certainly available. She's tall, she's a good singer and she plays basketball for Boston College. Sounds like quite the catch to us.
We bet President Obama is glad his daughters are too young for this sort of leering.

Once a long-shot for the Senate seat left vacant after Sen. Edward Kennedy died last August, state senator Scott Brown defeated state attorney general Martha Coakley on Tuesday, becoming the first Republican Senator-Elect from this traditionally blue state in 30 years. Here's what you might not know about the new guy to DC1. Brown, 50, is a lawyer - and former actor/model. The now-famous (discreetly) nude shoot he did in 1982 for Cosmopolitan magazine was, he has said, done to help pay for law school. 2. He's a triathlete who rises daily at 5 a.m. to train - and multitask. "If I'm riding my [stationary] bike,...

Scott Brown, the hunky Massachusetts Republican Senator-elect, who just upset the Capital Hill power balance by winning Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat, has some abs in his closet.
Seems he once posed nude for the centerfold of Cosmo.
Brown won the womens mag's "America's Sexiest Man" contest and appeared in the June 1982 issue, when he was a 22-year-old law student at Boston College.
"Here at Cosmo we've had bachelors go on to be actors, models and reality show stars, so we're thrilled that one has gone on to become a politician," says Kate White, Cosmo's editor-in-chief.
"Obviously we know how to pick 'em. This particular bachelor has always had political ambitions and even admitted to being 'a bit of a patriot' when we interviewed him."
Move over, Barack Obama. You've got major competition in the swimsuit arena.
Not only is he a hunk but Brown also has an "American Idol" connection.

Ayla Brown, daughter of Scott Brown, the new Senator-Elect from Massachusetts, met with "Extra's" Terri Seymour back in 2006 to talk about being in the top 24 on "American Idol."
Ayla shared that with the loving support of her family -- and lots of hard work -- she's been able to make her dreams come true.

Ayla Brown didn't win "American Idol" back in season five, but she could have another shot at stardom following her father's victory Tuesday night. Scott Brown became senator-elect of Massachusetts in a special election to fill the late Senator Ted Kennedy's seat for the remainder of his term. In a shocking upset, the Republican candidate defeated Democrat Martha Coakley in the staunchly blue state of Massachusetts.
Ayla, 21, campaigned at her father side for the duration of the election season, and some speculated that having her familiar face in public appearances and TV commercials was the state senator's equivalent of a celebrity endorsement. But judging by the number of people searching on Ayla's name Wednesday morning (January 20), the aspiring musician...

Former American Idol contestant Ayla Brown, who was among the top 16 in season 5, is on the campaign trail today: Her father is Massachusetts state Senator Scott Brown, who's the Gop's candidate in the state's tight senate race. Alas, he is not actually Elvis: I doubt this has any real sway in the race, but still, who doesn't love a good Idol where-are-they-now story?...

Did you know today's election for the late Senator Ted Kennedy's vacant Massachusetts seat has an "American Idol" connection?
The Republican nominee for the Mass. U.S. Senate seat, Scott Brown, is the dad of season five semi-finalist Ayla Brown.
Ayla famously always wore some killer heels with her 6'0 frame and made Ryan Seacrest look like the Keebler elf that he is.
Below are two of her Top 24 performances. The first one is "Unwritten," which was not our favorite Ayla offering but in the video montage before the song she and her dad toss around the football as she talks about thinking her dad was Elvis when she was little. "Unwritten" is the song that got her eliminated, but she had something to fall back on -- playing forward for the Boston College women's basketball team.
The second one is a much better Ayla performance -- it's "Reflection" from Mulan.
