Some TV viewers who watched a special kids’ broadcast of an NFL game on Nickelodeon might have witnessed an interesting special effect: a slime monster rising from the football field. Executives at ad giant Interpublic Group saw something else: an opportunity.
Interpublic, the ad giant that owns agencies such as Deutsch and McCann WorldGroup, is taking what is believed to be a minority stake in The Famous Group, a technology company that creates mixed and augmented reality experiences for live events. The company created dynamic images that were placed alongside the recent Nickelodeon football broadcast and has worked at the Super Bowl, the PGA Championship and the NBA All-Star Game, among other events, says Jon Slusser, a partner and owner of the company. Executives declined to discuss specific financial terms of the alliance.

SAN DIEGO -- MTV Networks is expanding its deal with game journalist Geoff Keighley as it seeks to boost its slate of video game-themed content on Spike TV as well as online.
As part of a new agreement, Keighley's current Spike show "Game Head" is being relaunched Friday as "GameTrailers TV With Geoff Keighley" and will be available for the first time in high-definition. Keighley also will create additional on-air programming for Spike, consult on the network's annual "Video Game Awards" and host several of Spike's specials.
"It has long been my hope to sign Geoff to a larger overall deal so we can make better use of his talents across all of our properties," said Jon Slusser, senior vp digital and video games at Spike TV. "We've identified this as a huge opportunity and we want to own this both on-air and online."
Spike is making the HD version of "GameTrailers TV" available on GameTrailers.com as well as Xbox Live Marketplace. GameTrailers.com, which was purchased by MTV Networks in 2005, is a leading site for reviews, game trailers and original shows such as the Keighley-hosted "The Bonus Round".
GameTrailers.com is part of Spike Digital Entertainment, a series of five brands, all focused on young males with a heavy gaming emphasis, Slusser said.
