- Justin was born in Illinois, and later grew up in the Los Angeles suburb of San Dimas, California. He received a BA in Dramatic Art from UC Santa Barbara and an MFA in Writing from The School of the Art Institute Chicago. He spent many years working in the theatre and indie film scenes in Chicago. Justin co-wrote the screenplay to Nate & Margaret which sold to Breaking Glass Pictures before playing a film festival. Roger Ebert praised the film as "a smart, observant movie about two very particular people, and its casting is pitch-perfect." The New York Times called it "fragile and simple in the best possible way." His second co-written feature screenplay for Miles, starring Molly Shannon, Paul Reiser, Missi Pyle, and Tim Boardman, hit theaters and digital in 2017 after winning the audience award for Best Feature at the 2016 Outfest.
