Will's past returned to haunt him as he lost someone he cared about.
On Will Trent Season 2 Episode 1, Will still struggled with learning that James Ulster murdered his birth mother, who he never got to meet. He's still learning who to rely on when asked to lead a car bombing investigation.
The season opener delivered the best of both worlds -- helping people in danger and tying the case-of-the-week back to the lead characters' lives. The car bombing affected Will and Michael the most, and it's exciting that we get to delve more into their interpersonal lives.
Will has always been a loner, so it wasn't surprising that he didn't confide in Amanda or Faith that he wanted to learn Spanish to feel closer to his late mother. He almost seemed to resent Amanda calling him about work during that time off.
It was entertaining that the series threw back...

The Pearsons may be gone, but they’re certainly not forgotten. A whopping 19 “This Is Us” cast members have been submitted by NBC on the 2022 Emmys ballot, including all of the core adult family members. That number includes three lead performers: Sterling K. Brown as Randall Pearson, Milo Ventimiglia as Jack Pearson and Mandy Moore as Rebecca Pearson. In years past, Justin Hartley as Kevin Pearson has also dabbled in lead, but for this final season he’s competing in supporting. One fan-fave guest star was not submitted on the Emmy ballot and thus cannot be nominated: 2017 winner Gerald McRaney, who returned in the penultimate episode as the ghost of lemonade-loving Dr. K.

NBC finally drew the curtain on its hit-series “This is Us” on May 24, 2022. The series finale of the tear-jerking drama series aroused gloomy reactions across the board — fans and casts alike, “This is Us” is our favorite thing.
The words of William Hill’s ghost to Rebecca Pearson in the final episode sums up how we all feel. “The way I see it, If something makes you sad when it ends, it must have been pretty wonderful when it was happening.”
Pretty wonderful might be an understatement when describing a show that held its audience spellbound from the moment its trailer was released online — nearly 80 million views within two weeks.
In its first season, the multiple award winning family drama series averaged 15.3 million viewers. And even though the figures have dropped over the years, there are still a few shows with such a cult following like “This is Us.”

But let's not forget to honor the other special ladies in our lives: The mothers of television. That's right. We're taking a moment to celebrate the TV matriarchs that helped show us what care, compassion and courage look like. Whether it is the always-supportive Linda Belcher on Bob's Burgers or the straight-shooting Beth Pearson on This Is Us, we've been able to get some great mom energy on our small screens. In fact, we've learned some key life lessons from these TV figures. Case in point: We've never...

We all have those characters we endlessly adore, where everything they do makes us smile.
Similarly, there are those we'd prefer to see thrown into a fire rather than hear them talk, or at least we'd like to see them suffer in some capacity that doesn't necessarily need to involve arson.
Here is a list of some of the most likable and unlikable characters gracing or tainting our screens today.
Beth Pearson (This Is Us) - Most Likable
Beth is first on this list for a reason. She defines radiance and defies one-dimensionality.
She is both tough and soft. She doesn't take anyone's Bs, calling Randall and her daughters out when they are being thorns in her side, then she welcomes them into her arms when they need compassion and support.
She is a wonderful mother and has a blossoming career in teaching ballet, offering her students the same love she offers her family.

Susan Kelechi Watson is one of two main cast members from “This Is Us” yet to score an Emmy nomination. While a vast majority of her scenes as Beth Pearson are with her TV husband, Sterling K. Brown, who has been nominated five times and awarded once for his performance, Watson’s work has continued to go unsung by the TV academy. Voters now have one last opportunity to right that wrong for the final season of “This Is Us,” which, for the first time, gives the actress two opportunities to score some Emmy love.
The recent episode “Our Little Island Girl: Part Two” not only gave Beth the opportunity to step into the spotlight but for Watson to take on a new role behind the scenes at “This Is Us.” The actress co-wrote the episode with Eboni Freeman, one of the show’s executive story editors, giving her the...

Marvel’s “Ironheart” series is starting to round out its cast. “This Is Us” star Lyric Ross has boarded the Disney+ project, TheWrap has confirmed.
Ross, who plays Deja, the adopted daughter of Randall and Beth Pearson on “This Is Us,” will play Riri Williams’s (Dominique Thorne) best friend. In the “Ironheart” comics, Riri’s best friend is a girl named Natalie Washington, who was killed after getting caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting. It is unknown whether Ross will be playing Natalie or an original character.
Williams herself is known better as Ironheart. In the comics, Williams is a Black teen prodigy attending MIT who builds her own suit by reverse-engineering Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit design. She’s mentored by Pepper Potts — similar to how Tony took Peter Parker under his wing in the MCU — providing her with resources and a suit AI.

Phylicia Rashad has landed her third consecutive Emmy nom for This Is Us. The TV Academy’s recognition of the actress comes on the heels of controversy over her comments, surrounding Bill Cosby’s release from prison.
This year (as in 2019 and 2020), Rashad is nommed in the category of Drama Guest Actress. On NBC’s intergenerational family drama series, she plays Carol Clarke, the loving (albeit somewhat overbearing) mother of Susan Kelechi Watson’s Beth Pearson.
Rashad’s latest Emmy nomination brings her to a career total of six. The actress had previously been nominated in 2008 for her turn as Lena Younger in a TV movie adaptation of Lorraine Hansberry’s classic play, A Raisin in the Sun. Her first two noms came in 1985 and ’86 for her lead role on The Cosby Show.

Through the years, “This Is Us” has welcomed countless big-name guest stars to its ever-growing family, with a whopping six being nominated at the Emmys: Ron Cephas Jones, Gerald McRaney, Brian Tyree Henry, Denis O’Hare, Michael Angarano and Phylicia Rashad. Jones and McRaney are the only two guest stars to take home trophies, but now Angarano is hoping to follow in their Emmy-winning footsteps.
Angarano first joined NBC’s family drama in 2018 as Nick Pearson, the estranged brother of Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia). In flashbacks we see Nick’s early life with Jack and their service in Vietnam, while in the present-day story he’s known as Uncle Nicky (Griffin Dunne) and lives a mostly solitary life in his trailer. In the most recent fifth season, Angarano returned in the “One Small Step” episode in which fans saw Nick fall in love for the first time with his co-worker Sally at the animal clinic.

“Beth is okay,” Susan Kelechi Watson assures us of her character, Beth Pearson, following the Season 5 finale of “This is Us.” Fans were rattled to see Beth’s sister-in-law Kate (Chrissy Metz) marrying her boss Phillip (Chris Geere) in the season’s last episode. “We are five years ahead, which is fun to play because we age up and things have changed.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“This is Us” will be ending its successful run on NBC with Season 6. “There is something to knowing when you’ve told the story,” Watson says. “That has always been Dan [Fogelman]’s main goal. We’ve spanned generations and the goal of the show was to tell this family’s story authentically. To see where they came from and to find out where they’re going. The story started with Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and it ends with Rebecca.

This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman took to Twitter on Friday, to respond to the news that his hit NBC drama will end with its upcoming sixth season.
“Whoever casually first said ‘All good things must come to an end’ never had to end their favorite thing,” he wrote. “While sad to have just 1 season left, also grateful to NBC for letting us end the show how, and when, we always intended. We’ll work hard to stick the landing.”
As Fogelman noted in his message, yesterday’s announcement wasn’t exactly news, as he has long discussed his plan to end the show after its sixth season. Still, he clearly knew that NBC’s formal announcement regarding the show’s end would elicit strong emotional reactions—and not just from fans.
“I’m already Very emotional about my favorite job coming to an end,” actress Mandy Moore wrote in her Instagram story on Friday.

NBC’s “This Is Us” usually breaks its audience members’ hearts with emotional drama involving the fictional Pearsons across generations. But this season, it is making its cast members emotional on-set in a special way, too.
“The most heartbreaking thing,” series star Milo Ventimiglia said during a virtual panel for the show on Friday, is that due to Covid-19 health and safety guidelines, he can no longer just “pop in on set” to visit some of the other actors as they’re working in scenes he is not in. Usually he brings “my cameras, and I’d watch, but now I can’t,” he said.
“Everyone is lovely human beings,” he noted of the cast. “Through the pandemic there were moments where we were checking in on one another. I’m grateful to see them.”

This has to be her year, right? On her fourth career nomination last year, legendary film, TV and stage actress Phylicia Rashad was hoping to rake in her very first Emmy victory thanks to her guest role on “This Is Us,” but she ended up falling to “The Handmaid’s Tale’s” Cherry Jones. This year, she is back in the running for the NBC hit in the Best Drama Guest Actress category, ready to give it another go and finally strike Emmy gold with the help of her submission “Flip a Coin,” Season 4’s fourth outing.
We first meet her character Carol Clarke in Rashad’s 2019 submission “Our Little Island Girl” as Beth Pearson’s (Susan Kelechi Watson) mother, who is exceedingly strict about the life she foresees for her daughter. The Clarke family goes through a rough patch when Beth’s father Abe (Carl Lumbly) is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer,...

This year she has a second chance to win Best Drama Guest Actress for “This is Us.” And she’ll finally get it, according to a couple of our Top 24 Users who got the highest scores predicting last year’s Emmys.

Susan Kelechi Watson has been one of the clutch players on NBC’s “This Is Us” for four seasons in her role as Beth Pearson, wife of Randall (Sterling K. Brown). She finally received individual recognition for her work earlier this year with a nomination from the Critics’ Choice Awards, following two consecutive ensemble wins at the SAG Awards. “I’m so excited when we’re recognized individually,” Watson says in an exclusive new interview for Gold Derby. “There’s something really beautiful in the nomination and who you get to share that nominated space with. That’s something in and of itself which is like a win.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Name a show on TV right now that has a more Emmy-nominated cast than NBC’s “This Is Us.” I’ll wait.
Over the last three seasons, the family drama has garnered a staggering 18 Emmy nominations for its actors, including three wins, for Sterling K. Brown (Best Drama Actor) and Gerald McRaney (Best Drama Guest Actor) in 2017 and Ron Cephas Jones (Best Drama Guest Actor) in 2018.
Last year an impressive seven out of nine nominations for the show were for its sprawling cast. Leading men Brown and Milo Ventimiglia each netted their third consecutive nominations for Best Drama Actor. Emmy debutantes Mandy Moore and Chris Sullivan received mentions for Best Drama Actress and Best Drama Supporting Actor, respectively.

Susan Kelechi Watson has reason to celebrate. Her NBC series, This Is Us, is up for an Emmy and returns for a fourth season on Tuesday, Sept. 24—and it gets better: She's engaged. Watson, who stepped out on the Emmys red carpet with her brother, is engaged to Jaime Lincoln Smith. And she's named her new accessory: Marina. Yep, her ring is named Marina. "He took me to Marina Del Rey as part of the day," Watson told E!'s Jason Kennedy at the 2019 Emmys. So, she's at the Emmys, her show is coming back, she's engaged. That's enough to celebrate, right? It is, but it gets better for the woman who brings Beth Pearson to life week after week: She's costarring opposite Tom...

In the episode “Our Little Island Girl,” Rashad plays Carol Clark, the strict, no-nonsense mother of Beth Pearson (Susan Kelechi Watson). The episode begins by showing Carol continuing her career as a tough-as-nails high school principal who masks her ailing hip injury behind a tough persona that demands the respect of all her students.

Gerald McRaney had never won an Emmy before he claimed Best Drama Guest Actor for “This is Us” in 2017. Then veteran character actor Ron Cephas Jones won his very first Emmy in the same category in 2018. Could the trend of “This is Us” guest stars winning overdue Emmys continue this year with Phylicia Rashad? That’s right, Phylicia Rashad has never won an Emmy.
Rashad is on the ballot this year for Best Drama Guest Actress for one episode in “This is Us” season three: “Our Little Island Girl,” in which she plays the mother of Beth Pearson (Susan Kelechi Watson) as we learn Beth’s backstory. As of this writing Rashad ranks third in our predictions with odds of 11/2 based on the combined forecasts of Gold Derby’s users. She’s behind only front-runner Cherry Jones (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and Jessica Lange (“American Horror Story: Apocalypse”), both past Emmy winners.

NBC and 20th Century Fox Television pulled no emotional punches during a special Emmy Fyc event for “This Is Us” recently held at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre. A musical performance and subsequent panel featuring actors Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Susan Kelechi Watson, Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley, Chris Sullivan, and Chrissy Metz was very much in keeping with the heart-on-its-sleeve spirit of the show. One wonders why the prepared meals didn’t come with a handkerchief.
The evening began with a mini concert highlighting the music of the show’s composer Siddhartha Khosla, who fronted a small ensemble of musicians in performing the show’s theme song as well as musical selections from the third season. It was capped by a moving performance of the original song “Invisible Ink,” featuring lead vocals from Mandy Moore, accompanied by Khosla and co-writer Taylor Goldsmith, who also happens to be Moore’s husband.

Phylicia Rashad won’t say exactly when she met Susan Kelechi Watson because, well, she just knows her. Rashad knows her in that way that actors know their co-stars through the heightened intimacy of their job, but she also knows her as an admirer — a fan, even.
“I know this woman,” Rashad said with a laugh, sitting next to a smiling Watson after their panel discussion at the Atx Television Festival. When asked when they met, Rashad said, “I just know her. And I enjoy her. As I’m watching episodes of ‘This Is Us’ — so effortless, so unaffected, she is.”
It’s endearing to think Rashad got to know Watson the same way many Americans did — by watching her become the oft-exasperated, ever-charming, and most compelling family member of the hit NBC drama — but it’s not true. Not exactly. Phylicia Rashad isn’t like the rest of America.

Susan Kelechi Watson has co-starred on “This is Us” from the very beginning, but hasn’t yet been nominated for an Emmy. That could change this year: she currently ranks among our top six predicted nominees for Best Drama Supporting Actress for her role as Beth Pearson in the NBC family drama. What’s interesting is that her candidacy this year is reminiscent of Maura Tierney‘s ascent into the same category — twice.
Tierney earned her first Drama Supporting Actress Emmy nomination in 2001 for another high-rated NBC drama, “ER.” She played Abby Lockhart, a nurse-turned-doctor who was thrust to the forefront of storylines with the introduction of her mother, played by legendary actress Sally Field. Similarly, Watson had a prominent year of storylines on “This is Us,” including the introduction of her mother played by legendary actress Phylicia Rashad.

Susan Kelechi Watson had a strong arc on “This Is Us” in Season 3 as her character Beth Pearson found herself increasingly frustrated by her dreams being second to her husband Randall’s (Sterling K. Brown) dreams. This led to an explosion in the season’s penultimate episode, “R + B,” where Beth and Randall confronted each other in such a way that fans were worried they were heading towards divorce. “There was a lot of fear,” Watson says, of the fan response to this arc. “There were a lot of threats” of them quitting the show. Watch Watson’s exclusive video interview with Gold Derby above.

NBC’s “This Is Us” is filled with many great performances, so it’s no surprise that 11 of its 18 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, not to mention three wins, have been for acting. This year, yet another cast member, Susan Kelechi Watson, could reap an Emmy bid with a scene-stealing performance.
In the third season, fan favorite Beth Pearson (Watson) has gone from supporting her husband during his grueling city council campaign and unexpectedly losing her job to returning to her passion for dancing. All these storylines came together beautifully in the Beth-centric 13th episode, “Our Little Island Girl,” in which we see flashbacks of multiple phases of Beth’s childhood. We witness her struggle to juggle her mother’s (Phylicia Rashad) demands and home life with her desire of pursuing a path in dance.

Beth, I hear you calling, and it's time for you to come home right now.
After being put on the backburner for multiple episodes, Beth Pearson finally got her moment in the sun on This Is Us Season 3 Episode 13, and if anyone thought it was going to be a quaint, happy trip, you were sadly mistaken.
We're so used to hearing all about the trials and tribulations the Pearson family had to overcome throughout the years that it takes us a minute to realize that their significant others have gone through the wringer as well.
Beth Pearson formerly known as Beth Clark didn't just go through the wringer, she danced through it.
Frankly, this episode was long overdue, and I would've have preferred if we learned more about Beth and her life pre-Randall in small doses throughout the show, rather than just one episode.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details about the Feb. 19 This is Us episode “Our Little Island Girl”.
Susan Kelechi Watson has built quite the solid fan base among This is Us viewers, with her portrayal of the patient-but-steely, witty and whipsmart Beth Pearson. So it’s no surprise that tonight’s episode, “Our Little Island Girl,” was devoted almost entirely to her. It guest stars Phylicia Rashad as Beth’s controlling mother and features some intense mother-daughter drama and revelations about Beth’s past and future.
The episode, directed by Anne Fletcher, explores Beth’s early ambitions as a dancer in a storyline that is somewhat reminiscent of Misty Copeland, and it turns out Kelechi Watson herself is no slouch in that area, having studied dance.

This Is Us fans, now might be the time to panic. After a series of ups and downs for Randall and Beth Pearson in season three, dedicated viewers have been left questioning the fate of this beloved onscreen couple. Now things are about to get even more interesting with the introduction of a new character: Beth's teacher, played by Goran Visnjić.
Visnjić is best known for his roles on ER and Timeless. While the details of his new character, Vincent, are a little fuzzy, we know he'll appear in a later episode that explores Beth's backstory. Could he be her dance teacher from the ominous flash-forward? Or maybe an instructor from her past? Whenever he does make an appearance, let's hope he doesn't spell trouble for Beth and Randall.
