East European broadcaster Viasat has pulled out of airing documentary film Tovarisch, I Am Not Dead, apparently because of the "sensitivity" of its subject matter in Russia.
The film explores the life of Garri Urban, a Jewish doctor who lived in and challenged the authority of the Soviet Union.
Viasat was due to distribute Tovarisch on pay-tv in former Eastern Bloc and Yugoslav countries but pulled out at the last minute, according to Garri's son Stuart, who made the film.
Writing on the weblog for the movie, he quoted an email from the company's acquisitions manager.
"We have concerns about the sensitivity of the title in Russia," she wrote. "The current climate and viewership in Russia is that our compliance department are having to monitor very closely . . .
