Eric Boehlert, a media critic devoted to calling out right-wing misinformation through his writing at Media Matters for America, Salon, Daily Kos and most recently as the founder of the Press Run website, died Monday in a bike accident. He was 57.
His death was announced on Twitter today by journalist and friend Soledad O’Brien, who called Boehlert “a fierce and fearless defender of the truth.” Boehlert was struck by a train while biking in Montclair, New Jersey; Montclair police reported yesterday that a man riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a New Jersey Transit train in Montclair on Monday evening.
“A terrible loss,” O’Brien writes. “We’ve lost an awesome human being, handsome/cool/witty dude who kicked ass on our behalf. Crazy devotion to facts, context and good reporting. Enemy of Bs, fake news.” O’Brien described Boehlert as “an amazing friend,” adding, “Brutal to bad media on twitter,...

President Trump has been criticized for what some are calling his lackluster response to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico — and his explanation on Friday did little to help him.
During a speech on his tax plan in Washington, D.C., Trump said the Hurricane Maria disaster relief effort in Puerto Rico has been complicated because the island is “surrounded by water.”
“This is an island, surrounded by water. Big water. Ocean water,” the president said.
Now the president is being pilloried on Twitter not just for his hurricane response, but for his “toddler-level” response to that response.

It took President Trump five full days to respond after Hurricane Maria wreaked havoc on Puerto Rico — and when he finally did, Twitter wasn’t happy with his choice of words.
Critics have accused Trump of effectively blaming the U.S. territory for its own misfortune after he credited Puerto Rico’s “broken infrastructure and massive debt” with landing the island in “deep trouble” after the hurricane.
“Texas & Florida are doing great but Puerto Rico, which was already suffering from broken infrastructure & massive debt, is in deep trouble. It’s old electrical grid, which was in terrible shape, was devastated.

President Donald Trump‘s reported decision to end Daca — the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy that offers work permits to people who entered the country illegally as minors — has incensed the internet, with politicians, celebrities, everyday Americans and people who have benefitted from the program expressing shock and disgust over the move expected to be officially announced Tuesday.
Sen. Bernie Sanders forcefully condemned the news on Twitter Sunday night, saying that if Trump indeed ends the program “it will be one of the ugliest and cruelest decisions ever made by a president in our modern history.”

‘It’s Like a Coup’: Critics Lash Out After Ivanka Trump Gets West Wing Office and Security Clearance
Critics are lashing out on Twitter after it was reported Monday that President Donald Trump‘s daughter Ivanka Trump was getting her own West Wing office, complete with a security clearance for classified information — but no official White House job.
Robert Reich, who served as former President Bill Clinton‘s secretary of labor, waded into the backlash early Tuesday morning, tweeting: “Ivanka into the White House? It’s like a coup, and the dictator’s family is moving into the palace as it prepares to the loot the country.”

Fox News had a double whammy on Monday when two contributors made outlandish comments about President Obama resulting in two-week suspensions for both. The suspensions — one of former “Clueless” star Stacey Dash for saying President Obama “could give a shit” about terrorism and the other of Lt. Ralph Peters for calling Obama a “total pussy,” were rare penalties imposed by the network. “It seems pretty clear Fox News has separate rules of conduct based on its star system,” Media Matters’ senior fellow Eric Boehlert told TheWrap. This week was a particularly fierce one politically, with the Obamacare deadline hit, the White House saying they met and exceeded their target number, and the right collectively raising cain about the health care law. On MSNBC Saturday, Karen Finney and her guests laughed at the right's Obamacare "freakout," with Media Matters' Eric Boehlert calling the anti-Obamacare attacks a four-year "epic failure."...
