The “Dark Side of Football” Season 1 participants would make a pretty darn good NFL roster – and the storylines should make for some entertaining TV.
The six, one-hour episodes of Vice’s “Dark Side of the Ring” spinoff will include an episode on Bill Belichick, another focused on the origins of the Oakland Raiders’ notorious reputation and a third that explores the league’s painkiller problem and the often tragic results of its unwritten rule to “play with the pain,” in the docuseries’ words.
And that’s literally just the half of it. Other subjects covered include violence among some hardcore fans, the pathetic (not last year!) Cleveland Browns, and one episode dedicated entirely to diva wide receivers, TheWrap has learned.
Participants interviewed for and appearing in the program include Chad Johnson, Mike Ditka, Plaxico Burress, Donte Stallworth, Jemele Hill, Bill Romanowski, Jim McMahon, Ricky Williams, Kyle Turley and Lincoln Kennedy,...

Editors’ Note: Part of an editor’s challenge now is to hatch stories, including some that take readers’ minds off layoffs and hardship. An oft-told tale last Oscar season was how Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro nixed a green light for The Winter of Frankie Machine to make The Irishman. So I asked Don Winslow, author of that terrific novel, to write his side of that Hollywood experience. While Stephen King routinely sees his work adapted and re-adapted, most authors find futility. But imagine the heartache when those two icons spurn a major studio green light to instead spend an extra decade on another project about a regretful hit man?

A show about a pair of inept broadcasters is currently generating laughs on Go90. Now We’re Talking, a scripted series from Warner Bros.’ Blue Ribbon Content and Bleacher Report’s Uninterrupted, recently launched its third episode, with four more to come.
Now We’re Talking stars Tug Coker and Tommy Dewey as Tug and Tommy, a pair of washed-up NFL quarterbacks -- one starter and one backup -- who look to get into the commentary game. Due in part to the personal animosity they share toward one another, they make for a terrible on-screen duo. As the show’s trailer suggests, their chemistry is so awful that their broadcasts take on a “so bad it’s good” feel among fans.
Uninterrupted is known as a video platform on which athletes can share their thoughts directly with viewers, and Now We’re Talking features plenty of cameo appearances from pro athletes past and present.

Hey, if Michael Vick, Plaxico Burress and Donte Stallworth can get a second chance (and Pacman Jones gets like 20 -- sorry, only NFL references come to mind. Apparently they have a discipline problem. Probably no second chances for Aaron Hernandez though), why not a former Shield agent gone rogue with a bionic eye that records everything, can see in the dark and receives orders only the agent can see, all while forcing them to carry out said orders under the threat of instant death?
I dunno how courts work in the post-Avengers era, but it seems like that might be grounds for some less-than-savory goings on.

The sports world is abuzz Monday (Nov. 28) with talk of Buffalo Bills wide receiver Steve Johnson's touchdown celebration, in which Johnson mimed shooting himself in the leg with a gun. Why is this controversial? Because he was mocking opposing player Plaxico Burress, of the New York Jets, who three years ago accidentally shot himself in the leg in a night club with a gun stuffed in his sweatpants. Burress subsequently spent 20 months in jail on an illegal weapons charge.
Was it tasteless? Funny? Creative? How about all of the above? But it was also pretty foolish. The NFL has been cracking down on excessive Td celebrations in recent years and this particular gunshot really shot the Bills in the foot. It handed them a 15-yard penalty and helped the Jets score the game-tying touchdown. The Jets would go on to win 28-24, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Plaxico Burress -- Denied Temporary Release from Jail
Former NFL star Plaxico Burress won't be returning to the football field any time soon -- TMZ has learned the famous wide receiver's latest attempt to participate in a work release program was just shot down by authorities in Albany.
Burress -- who was locked up for illegal gun possession after accidentally shooting himself at a NY nightclub -- had requested a "temporary release" so he could play football again.
But officials denied his request stating, "The serious and negative impact illegal guns have on the community coupled with dangerous nature of the weapon discharging in a public place renders him unsuitable for work release participation."
Plaxico is scheduled to be released in 2011.

Lindsay Lohan in court Tuesday

With tears running down her face, Lindsay Lohan looked shocked Tuesday when Judge Marsha Revel sentenced the 24-year-old actress to 90 days in jail to be followed by 90 days in an inpatient rehab facility after hearing evidence that Lohan had missed weekly alcohol-education classes.
She wasn't the only one surprised by the harshness of the sentence for the parole violation from Lohan's pair of 2007 DUI arrests. Three prominent attorneys (who are not involved in the case) contacted by MTV News said Revel was clearly trying to send a message to Lohan with her ruling.
"What she's probably experiencing is a judge who, having given an opportunity that would have been given to anyone in this case and having it flaunted by not being responsive to the direction of the court, is taking action,...

As if further proof was needed, Lindsay Lohan cemented her bad-girl status Tuesday during a probation violation hearing by writing the message "f--- u" on her fingernail. But did the profane memo on the nail of her middle finger land the formerly promising actress a harsher sentence?
Legal experts contacted by MTV News don't think so but all agreed that, at best, it was bad form, and at worst, it was another example of a young Hollywood starlet who appears to be out of control and not seriously considering the repercussions of her actions.
New York attorney Benjamin Brafman — who defended Diddy in his 2001 Club New York gun case, New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress in his 2008 gun case and was...

On Wednesday (April 14), world-dominating rapper Eminem announced that the concept of Relapse 2 was dead. But luckily for fans, is still dropping a new album on June 22, which he is calling Recovery.
"I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year," Eminem told MTV News in a statement yesterday. "But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title."
For some, that will be good news, as it means that Slim Shady will be shying away from the dark dirges about popping pills that made up much of Relapse and getting back to the sort of hip-hop that made him huge in the first place, featuring...
