Thanks to roles in Spider-Man and Justice League, Oscar winner J.K. Simmons has become a household name for superhero fans. Of course, nowadays he's most famous for playing Omni-Man in Prime Video's superhero show Invincible, which adapts Robert Kirkman's beloved comics.
Omni-Man has similar powers to Superman; he can fly, he's got super-strength, and he's incredibly durable. However, his moral compass differs greatly from the Man of Steel. As an agent of the interstellar Viltrumite Empire, it's Omni-Man's job to secretly prime Earth for Viltrumite takeover by any means necessary.
Omni-Man is one of the show's most popular characters. Simmons adores the role and we can't imagine anyone else doing it justice like him. Back in the day when the show was casting, it could've ended up very differently. Simmons was originally offered a different role, which he declined, despite being excited by the premise.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 5 of “Invincible,” now streaming on Prime Video.
Mark’s time to think is over: “Invincible” Season 2, Part 2 has just premiered.
The episode picked up right where Part 1’s finale left off, with Mark (played by Steven Yeun) left stranded on the planet Thraxa after Omni-Man’s (played by J.K. Simmons) capture by the Viltrumites.
Though the episode didn’t reveal Nolan/Omni-Man’s fate, we did get to see Mark step into his role as an older brother after the last episode’s bombshell revealed what Omni-Man had been up to since flying away from Earth — starting a new family on Thraxa and fathering a new son, Oliver.
Mark has spent the past two months helping to rebuild the planet, and after initial hesitation, decides to take Oliver back to Earth to be raised by him and his mother, Debbie (played by Sandra Oh). Mark,...

The thing about Nazis is: Fuck those guys.
Finland began World War II by fighting off the Soviet forces that tried to invade the country in the “Winter War” from 1939 to 1940. They were conscripted by the Axis powers to fight alongside Hitler’s army until 1944, the year of the Moscow Armistice — that treaty not only allied Finnish troops with the Russians, it started a major campaign that sought to drive the Nazis out of the country once and for all. This was known as the “Lapland War,” for those of you playing along at home.

At the Nordic International Film Festival closing night celebration at Gitano, after the awards ceremony hosted by Sarita Choudhury at the Roxy Cinema, my fellow jury member Craig Difrancia spoke with me about his role as Carmine Persico in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, which stars Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. Craig also told me how important Peter Farrelly’s Green Book was to Viggo Mortensen, Mahershala Ali and Nick Vallelonga, and he noted that Jérémie Guez’s upcoming film The Sound Of Philadelphia is going to be 'epic'. Other members of the jury included Richard Thomas (who is starring opposite Brian Cox and Grantham Coleman in Robert Schenkkan’s The Great Society at the Vivian Beaumont theatre), Adam Schartoff, and David Schwartz.

Jennifer Lawrence is no stranger when it comes to portraying nuanced female characters, and now she's gearing up for the role of another complicated woman: Arlyne Brickman, the mob girl turned FBI informant. Her new part is based on the colorful true story of Brickman's life captured in Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Teresa Carpenter's 1992 biography Mob Girl. While the film's release date is under wraps, we know that Lawrence will star as Brickman and produce alongside director Paolo Sorrentino. And we know that it'll be one hell of a story to tell - Brickman has lived a rather lurid and eventful life full of grit and shady dealings.
Arlyne Brickman's Early Life
Brickman spent 40 years hanging around mobsters. Her story started in 1934 when she was born in the Lower East Side of New York to a Jewish racketeer and one-time chorus girl. In her teenage years, she idolized Virginia Hill,...
