After setting company ratings records in 2017, Ion is decking the holiday halls for the 10th year in a row, setting a lineup of six original movies to air between November 25 and Christmas Day.
The half-dozen new titles, led off by Christmas Cupid’s Arrow, will join more than 25 library movies in a weekend rotation the network bills as “Bring the Holidays Home.” Last year’s holiday lineup, the company said, delivered Ion’s highest household ratings ever, averaging 887,000 viewers in primetime. The most popular title, A Prince for Christmas, posted a 1.2 million average.
“The holiday movie season has become a significant part of Ion Television’s programming strategy, and it continues to prove its value to both the network and our advertisers,” said Brandon Burgess, Chairman and CEO of Ion Media.

When you see a DVD cover like the one pictured above, for Steven Seagal’s latest opus, you expect yet another derivative action movie in which Seagal will, probably, lumber around the screen, trying to act like his old bad-ass self and failing miserably. What you Don’T expect, and what you get here with The Perfect Weapon, is a cyberpunk, Blade Runner-esque sci-fi action thriller in which Seagal plays The Bad Guy and our hero is an unstoppable assassin played by Johnny Messner, in total hard-ass, take no prisoners, mode!

Boundless Pictures' Founder Courtney Lauren Penn and Co-Founder Brandon Burrows have announced the launch of their new subsidiary label Firebrand, which will now handle its growing slate of elevated-genre pictures $10 million and under in budget.
Firebrand's inaugural picture is "The Perfect Weapon," which wrapped production last week (Monday, Oct 26th) starring Steven Seagal, Johnny Messner ("Tears of the Sun"), and Sasha Jackson ("'Till Death," "One Tree Hill"). The sci-fi actioner is directed by Titus Paar, written by Jessie Cillio, Alex Brenner, Ulysses Oliver, produced by Rafael Primorac, Andre Relis, Brandon Burrows, Courtney Lauren Penn and financed by the Fyzz Facility and Boundless Pictures through its Firebrand label. Next up for Firebrand is "Dead on Arrival."
Burrows will oversee finance and production for Firebrand's slate, while Penn will continue on in her position as President and Founder of Boundless Pictures, overseeing the parent company's slate of larger-budget, theatrical fare, $10 million and above. They include the upcoming time-travel thriller "Timeless," actioner "Run N Gun," K9 cop drama "Cry Justice," and a sequel to its Wesley Snipes actioner "Gallowalkers."
"Firebrand gives us the opportunity to ignite fierce, thrilling, elevated-genre stories and characters that, with the right tincture of release strategy and star power, demand a focused producing strategy of it's very own. We're thrilled to have partners like the Fyzz, work with a legend like Steven and from here on out, give this core part of our company focus and it's own development team," said Brandon Burrows
"We recognized a bifurcation in our slate and the growing need to allocate our resources accordingly. We've been fortunate lucky enough, since our inception in 2010 to developmentally and strategically grow such that we can now grant each label the attention and support it needs to serve the stories and storytellers to the best of our ability. All storytelling is enhanced by focus and I'm thrilled that my partner Brandon is picking up our proverbial Firebrand and running with it," added Courtney Lauren Pen.
Firebrand has access to a private lending facility and Boundless Pictures Parent Company is backed by UK and Us-based private equity.

The Film:
Gone are the days of Gidget or the awesome drive-in features from American International Pictures of summer fun, the ocean, and beautiful girls in bikinis, yet nearly a decade ago Blue Crush tried to fill this little void. It had the girls in bikinis (Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez). It had the ocean, which they used the sub-culture of surfing as a backdrop. Yet it wasn’t really summer fun, since that film was unfocused and needlessly over-dramatic. Would an in-name only sequel overcome those issues and bring in some summer fun to the party? Surprisingly, yes, and Blue Crush 2 is a great little film waiting to be seen.
Blue Crush 2 isn’t the most original film out there, or within the Beach Party genre, but it hits all of the right notes, for a breezy, perhaps predictable fun time. Whatever demons the Kate Bosworth character was chasing in the original film,...

In 2002, a film based on a magazine article was released in Blue Crush, starring Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez. Bikinis, surfing, exotic locations, what’s not to like? Nearly 9 years later, Universal is stepping back into the surf culture with Blue Crush 2, which stars equally as hot starlets, in Elizabeth Mathis (Unstoppable), Sharnie Vinson (Step Up 3D and the upcoming Bait 3D), and Sasha Jackson (TV’s One Tree Hill).
The film’s plot: Haunted by the memory of her deceased mother, Dana (Jackson) leaves Malibu behind and heads to South Africa to fulfill her mother’s dream of surfing Jeffery’s Bay.
Killer Film caught up with the film’s star Sasha Jackson to talk about her co-stars, the South African locations, and everything else on Blue Crush 2.
Jon: How did Blue Crush 2 come to you and what got you excited to sign on to play Dana?...
