Rubén Guevara III is the award-winning Executive Producer and Co-Creator of KCET-PBS SoCal's "Con Safos," the 12th season premiere Artbound documentary chronicling the life of his Chicano poet-activist-musician father, Rubén Funkahuatl Guevara. He graduated from New York University's Tisch School of Film & TV in 2009 with a degree in narrative and documentary film production, and has since worked for Warner Bros. Pictures, Sony Studios, Buzzfeed, IndieWire, KLCS-TV, and other digital media organizations.
Shortly before attending NYU, Rubén was awarded Warner Bros.' first ever R.E.A.C.H. Film & TV scholarship, which included a four-year internship spearheaded by the studio's Corporate Affairs and Responsibility department. During his final semester at Tisch, Rubén received the first Willard T.C. Johnson Fellowship for Filmmaking, and was granted $20,000 to complete his narrative thesis. Upon graduating, he returned to Los Angeles to pursue a career and lifelong passion in film, television, and digital media.
He has worked on several high profile feature films, including "Interstellar," "The Hangover: Part II," "Entourage," "The Amazing Spider-Man 2,""Winter's Tale," "Gangster Squad," and "Crazy, Stupid, Love." He later developed a passion for writing and journalism, turning his attention to editorial opportunities at Buzzfeed and IndieWire, respectively, after a five year term at Warner Bros. In 2016, Rubén returned to digital media production as the presidential election of Donald Trump reinvigorated his urge to produce more community-based arts and culture documentaries for PBS.
He is an ITVS and N.E.H. (National Endowment for the Humanities) Development Fellow, a 4-Time L.A. Press Club Award Winner, L.A. Area Emmy Award nominee, and California Humanities CDP recipient. Rubén resides with his wife in Los Angeles, California.
