Set in 2010 on the last day of school before summer, Darryl Foster’s directorial debut Hard To Reach sees a young man and his mentor share a cathartic experience they’ll never forget. Foster (who we saw in Oliver Goodrum’s Iniquity last year) tells the story of his two protagonists across a single day where their conflicting yet similar states of being reach boiling point. It’s a short that relies on its central performances and Foster’s background as an actor allows him to dive into and create fully-rounded, complex characters which combined with the talent of young actor Cory McClane allows the film’s central relationship to flourish in all its intricacies. Short film strand to return in November.
Short film strand The Shooting Gallery is returning for a four week run on UK broadcaster Channel 4 from Nov 11.
It will showcase nine new films from up-and-coming UK filmmaking talent.
The series will feature work from multiple genres ranging from BAFTA-winning shorts like Will Anderson’s The Making of Longbird and Charlotte Carden’s The Taxidermist [pictured], to campaigning micro-documentaries depicting real life stories of miscarriages of justice told by survivors of Death Row, by Will Francome and Mark Pizzey.
Film-makers including Scotland’s Marcus McPeake (Your Picture Gets Mine) and London-based Oliver Goodrum (This is Vanity) will have their shorts featured.
The talent showcase previously helped launch the careers of Shane Meadows, Clio Barnard and Andrea Arnold.
This year has seen Channel 4 broadcast more short films across its schedule than ever before, with more than 300 films featured through the Random Acts strand alone.
