Football is violent and fast. Brutal injuries are inherent to the action when 300-pound bodies slam into one another like cars at a demolition derby. In the late 1990s, no video game simulated that feeling more than the most anti-sim football game ever made: NFL Blitz.
Unfortunately, the world may never see a game like Blitz again. To be sure, football video games are as popular as ever—or at least EA Sports’ Madden franchise is, since it’s the only football sim officially licensed by the NFL. Spiritual successors to the Blitz brand of arcade-style football have come along here and there, with EA’s former NFL Street franchise and the 2017 reinvention of Mutant Football League by Digital Dreams Entertainment the most noteworthy. Even 2K Games plan to return with an NFL-licensed non-sim in the near future, and Madden NFL 21 has a new backyard-football mode called The Yard. But...

This article is presented by Super Mega Baseball 3.
Baseball is America’s Pastime, steeped in traditions that date as far back as the Civil War. But the on-field action at a big league ballgame isn’t always as colorful and full of personality as the players themselves, and a multitude of baseball video games released over the decades aimed to mirror the real thing.
And then there are games like Super Mega Baseball 3, the latest in the series from Metalhead Software.
Super Mega Baseball games play like a simulation of the sport, except with arcade-style visuals to spice things up and unique team names and ballparks for added flavor. The new game’s announcement trailer features good ol’ fashioned taunting the opponent, plenty of angry broken and tossed bats, and even a bean ball to the helmet that spins and topples a hapless hitter.

The mutants are back on the gridiron, but this time they are headed to PS4 and XBox One console systems. join the Mutant Humans, Orcs, Aliens, Skeletons and other monsters on the field. Are you ready for some Mutant Football League?
If this game sounds familiar to you thats because it is. Back in 1993 EA released Mutant League Football on the Sega Genesis (and later in 2006 for the PlayStation Portable). The game was designed using the Madden '93 engine and you could play the wonderful game of Football with a twist. Cheating, Bribing the ref, killing the ref and/or other players, were perfectly acceptable in this game and I must say I won every game I played by killing so many players from the other team they had to forfiet the game.
Now indie company, Digital Dreams Entertainment is bringing Mutant Football League, the "spiritual" successor to Mutant League...

The voice of Tim Kitzrow is about as synonymous with "NBA Jam" as pushing and dunking, and anyone who ever heard "He's heating up!" called out in an arcade knows that EA Sports made the right decision by bringing him back as an announcer for the franchise's Wii-exclusive relaunch. Equally well-founded is their new contest that wants you to propose suggestions for Kitzow's catchphrase arsenal in the game.
"'NBA Jam' is one of the most popular and culturally influential arcade basketball games ever made, and is widely known for its one-liners like 'Boom-Shaka-Laka' and 'He's on Fire,'" Kitzrow said in a press release. "I am really excited to be a part of the remake and for fans to create the expressions that could become culturally iconic in the years to come."

In addition to keeping Tiger Woods, EA may be fortifying its library with a title that's legendary in the arena of sports gaming. "NBA Jam" was arcade royalty during its incarnation at Midway, and to the best of my knowledge it's the only hoops title to ever let you play as both Bill Clinton and George Clinton -- even though Michael Jordan ducked out the back door due to his own licensing agreement for the less than classic EA game "Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City." Now, EA has reportedly lined "NBA Jam" up at the line for a relaunch exclusively on the Wii.
The new game will be announced later this month, according to Espn.com. Espn's anonymous sources also claim that EA will sweeten the new arrival by hiring the game's creator Mark Turmell and another unnamed "NBA Jam" vet -- possibly Tim Kitzrow, the original announcer who immortalized "Boomshackalacka!
