"Where's my daughter?!" Paramount has launched a trailer for a revenge action thriller titled Every Last One of Them, arriving direct-to-vod this week if anyone wants to actually watch this. Paul Sloan stars as an ex-Black Ops soldier named Jake Hunter, who's desperate to find his missing daughter. As he uncovers the terrifying truth surrounding her disappearance, he goes on a merciless quest for revenge, bringing those responsible to justice. His search uncovers a larger conspiracy involving a Chinatown-esque capitalism deal over water rights. The cast includes Jake Weber, Taryn Manning, Mike Hatton, Michael Madsen, along with Richard Dreyfuss. This seems as trashy as they come. Not only does the footage look stale, but with the most bland and unexciting plot that has been done a thousand times before in so many better films. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Christian Sesma's Every Last One of Them, direct from...

Producer/actor Mike Hatton’s production shingle, Ton of Hats, Inc. in partnership with 101 Films International have announced the surprise completion of principal photography on director Christian Sesma’s Take Back, a martial-arts action saga starring Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler); Michael Jai White; Gillian White and James Russo (Django Unchained).
The producers believe Take Back is among the first independent films to successfully wrap principal photography following California’s (and most other states’) shutdown order, which effectively shut down film production nationwide.
Written by Zach Zerries in his feature-film penning debut, Take Back, shot in nearly complete secrecy in The Coachella Valley in Riverside County California, took place at breakneck speed under strict Covid-19 guidelines set forth by city, county, and state regulations, the industry’s white sheet, “The Safe Way Forward,” as guidance, SAG-AFTRA’s requirements, and the production’s own mandatory “Covid Playbook,” created by Hatton and director Sesma.

Surely, it can’t be long before we see a new addition to “The Film Critic’s Lexicon,” in the chapter devoted to such shorthand similes as “feels like a Hallmark movie,” “resembles an after-school special” and that old standby, “Tarantinoesque.” Chances are very good there will be something on the order of “good enough for lockdown” or “quarantine time-killer,” used to describe the sort of unabashedly derivative and instantly disposable genre fare that might find an audience among undemanding genre enthusiasts in search of something new — anything new — to watch while homebound.
And when that label does indeed appear, don’t be surprised to see a production still from writer-director Christian Sesma’s “Paydirt” alongside it as illustration.
A thoroughly mediocre but sporadically diverting mashup of elements cribbed from the cinemas of Guy Ritchie, Steven Soderbergh and, yes, Quentin Tarantino, “Paydirt” is a crime drama with darkly comical touches...

"They say it's buried out there somewhere..." Dark Star Pictures has revealed the first official trailer for a crime action thriller titled Paydirt, the latest by filmmaker Christian Sesma. This hasn't shown anywhere else, and is debuting direct-to-vod in August. Val Kilmer stars as a retired Sheriff with an "obsession to right past wrongs" who goes after an ex-convict that is searching for a buried bag of cash stolen a decade ago from a DEA bust gone bad. Sounds like every other dusty crime thriller about a con looking for his money. Starring Luke Goss, with Mike Hatton, Paul Sloan, Nick Vallelonga, Mirtha Michelle, Veronika Bozeman, Murielle Telio, and introducing Mercedes Kilmer. This looks so excessively cliche and so painfully mediocre it's hard to even finish this trailer. But at least Val Kilmer is starring in something again. In what has to be one of the more unexpected pairings to emerge out of the Cannes market, Wonderfilm Media has announced its upcoming cop thriller “10 Double Zero” will partner Nicolas Cage with Oscar-winning “Green Book” screenwriter and producer Nick Vallelonga. The project is being billed as a “hardcore cop thriller that mixes the grittiness of old school Michael Mann with the cutting-edge style of ‘Sicario.'”
The official plot synopsis for the film reads: “Set in the stifling heat of Louisiana, two police officers take on a personal vendetta to hunt down cop killers, but as they get closer to solving the crime, they find themselves targets of a conspiracy in the ranks of the police force as the investigation leads right back to them.”

Tony “Lip” Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen) is an Italian-American bouncer at New York’s Copa nightclub, a classy joint popular with the mob community. After some serious fisticuffs, the Copa is closed for refurbishment, and Tony finds himself on a sabbatical. He can’t support his family taking odd jobs and indulging in eating competitions (however magnificent an eater he may be); so when the opportunity arises to drive a wealthy musician, Dr Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali), on a tour of the Deep South, he jumps at the chance. Except Tony never jumps as such – he kind of jiggles.
An unashamedly crass slob, Tony is chosen...

As we hurriedly prepare for the big year-end holiday, or even trying to catch up with all the films released in time for the awards and best lists, it’s nice to be reminded of a Christmas aspect that’s often overlooked. It’s an extra bonus when that’s the central theme of one of the year’s finest films. I’m referring to “good will toward men”, but to not be sexist, this would include all “humankind”. While it may feel great to wrap up in warm nostalgia for sweeter bygone days (and memories of those long-ago holidays), there really wasn’t a lot of “good will” toward some men. Mind you, we’ve still got a ways to go, but things are much better than they were, say 66 years ago. This new film takes off those “rose-colored” glasses that distort yesteryear. But what about that title? Is...

Ok, class, who can explain what a Green Book is? For those who don’t know, it was a handbook for black motorists seeking “vacation without aggravation,” an indispensable travel guide listing friendly places to stay and tips for avoiding trouble in the Jim Crow South. As such, “Green Book” makes a clever title for a road movie unlike any other: the true story of the unlikely friendship between a black concert pianist and the New York City bouncer hired to chauffeur him through unfriendly territory.
Although inspirational on its surface, the film presents a pretty bleak picture of intolerance in 1962 America, when segregation and other openly racist policies would have made such a trip a dangerous prospect for a wealthy, well-educated black man, with or without a bruiser like Frank Anthony Vallelonga to watch his back. Featuring a pair of terrific performances by Viggo Mortensen as a goombah with...
