A new trailer for the Deadpool threequel, Deadpool & Wolverine, has just dropped! And the hype meter has just crossed a new level! Fans have been anxiously awaiting the release of this film, even more so as leaks began popping up all over the internet since last year. Though several heroes and villains are rumored to be making an appearance in the movie, the recent trailer teases the arrival of Doctor Strange.
A still from Deadpool and Wolverine
However, if there’s something we know about Marvel, is that when it comes to their most hyped-up projects, their trailers are not always 100% faithful. There has been some tweaking done in the past before, and there’s a possibility it might be happening again. This time, in the case of The Sorcerer Supreme.

Before Ryan Reynolds sliced his way into box office lore with Deadpool’s razor-sharp wit, another beloved actor was only a claw’s length away from making R-rated comic book history. Yes, Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold intended to immortalize The Wolverine as the first mature audience-oriented spectacle in the X-Men universe.
Consider this: it is 2013, and the cinematic world is enthralled by PG-13, effects-laden marvels like The Avengers, whose paint is still drying on its vibrant canvas.
Even though Fox steered the ship towards safer waters, could anyone have predicted how Mangold’s unrealized vision would paradoxically give The Wolverine a cutting edge that allowed it to cut through the din of its competitors?

Zach Clark’s “The Becomers,” about confused alien lovers trying to find their place on Earth, and each other, has debuted the first clip and poster ahead of its Fantasia Film Festival premiere.
“I was really inspired and influenced by 1950s B-movies. I have always liked the disreputable pockets of film history. My general approach to the entire movie was to embrace that and embrace kitsch as an access point,” said Clark.
“Older genre films really invite the audience in. Now, it’s all about visual effects and things looking as real as possible. But this more lo-fi effect asks you to play along in a way that modern stuff doesn’t.”
Also joining in on the fun is the film’s surprising narrator, Russell Mael, best known as the lead singer for Sparks: The cult American band celebrated by Edgar Wright...

Canberra, July 4 (Ians) Hollywood star Cate Blanchett feels the need to “constantly justify” her career in her native Australia.
The actress said she hates strangers asking her what she does for a living when she’s in Down Under because she doesn’t think her craft is “celebrated” in the way it is in the UK and US, where she spends a lot of her time, reports aceshowbiz.com.
“The worst thing for us as an actor in Australia is getting in the back of the cab and a cabbie asking ‘What do you do?’ Because you think, ‘Oh, God …,’ ” she said, according to the Courier Mail newspaper, during an event at the Roslyn Packer Theatre at the Sydney Theatre Company — which she and husband Andrew Upton ran from 2008 to 2011.

Ashleigh Warren signed up for Max’s reality series Swiping America because she wanted to find love. But her journey didn’t go exactly as she expected. The dating-focused docuseries, which released its final two episodes on June 29, follows four New Yorkers as they travel to eight cities across the U.S. The show’s producers did the swiping, sending the quartet out on a series of blind dates with local singles.
Ash struggled to connect with her dates on ‘Swiping America’
As you might imagine, some dates went better than others. During their first stop in Asheville, North Carolina, Ash clicked with Jordan emotionally, but she didn’t “see anything there intimately.” In Miami, a seemingly promising second date went south when Zad revealed she was vegan and Ash’s meat-eating would be an issue.
As the cast jetted from city to city, Ash found herself struggling to connect with anyone.

Meredith Stiehm will seek a second two-year term as president of WGA West in the fall election, and the other top officials of the guild will also seek reelection.
Justine Bateman, the writer-director and former “Family Ties” star, is running for a spot on the WGA West board. Bateman has become outspoken on the need for tight regulation of artificial intelligence.
The guild announced its preliminary list of nominees on Wednesday. Stiehm, who has been active in both the agency campaign and the current strike, will run against challenger Rich Talarico, a “Key and Peele” writer who has faulted the guild for not doing more to fight back against the release of free clips of the show on YouTube.
Michele Mulroney is running for reelection as vice president, and Betsy Thomas is seeking another term as secretary-treasurer. They will run against Isaac Gomez and Jeffrey Thompson, respectively.

On July 25th, 1990, as Roseanne Barr and Tom Arnold flew high above Jack Murphy Stadium, the San Diego Padres waited to face the Cincinnati Reds in the last of a four-game homestand. But before they would take the field, they would be graced with the presence of one of TV’s biggest stars performing the American National Anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” As the helicopter neared, Arnold looked over the crowd of more than 25,000 and tried to convince his wife that maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. Soon before the first pitch, Roseanne belted her take on Francis Scott Key’s anthem, spit on the field and grabbed her crotch. It would be her most controversial moment…until decades later…
Let’s find out: Wtf Happened to…Roseanne Barr?

Tatiana Maslany, Laurie Metcalf, and Paul Sparks star in ‘Grey House,’ a scary, psychological play that turns Broadway into a haunted house of horrors.
“I’ve seen this movie. We don’t make it…”
Horror is a popular genre for many reasons, but at the end of the day there is just nothing like the genuine experience of being afraid. Horror films do their best to immerse their audience in terror with no reprieve, yet there are inherent limitations to this storytelling medium. There’s still screen, and therefore safety, between the audience and their fears. Live theater, especially those on Broadway, live and die through their ability to not just keep audiences entertained, but to truly believe in the spectacle before them. Horror on Broadway is therefore a deeply appealing combination, albeit one that’s all-too rare because of the difficulty in its execution.

An ensemble of gifted actors effectively play against type in Michael Shannon’s quietly powerful directing debut, none more so than Judy Greer, outwardly numbed by sorrow but raw inside as a mother whose son shot and killed three high school classmates. While the subject matter inevitably invites comparison with Mass, that well-received 2021 chamber piece — also a first feature by an actor, Fran Kranz — kept its focus tight on two sets of parents on either side of a similar tragedy. Eric Larue casts a wider gaze, taking in the broader community and the religious leaders fumbling or manipulating the conversation about healing.
Shannon’s deep roots in Chicago theater are evident in his choice of material and his success at assembling a first-rate cast — uncommonly strong across the board for a modestly scaled indie like this.

By the time The Beatles began their 1966 tour of the United States, all but Paul McCartney had tired of touring. McCartney continued pushing them to tour, believing it made them stronger musicians. After a miserable show in St. Louis, though, even McCartney admitted that they had to stop. Here’s what made him realize that the band needed to end live performances.

The Beatles missed their first-ever concert because of rainy weather at a Cincinnati show. After playing a make-up show the following day, they flew to St. Louis for a concert at an open-air venue. Unfortunately, the rainy weather didn’t make this easy.
“Open-air concerts in the States were terrible,” Beatles road manager Mal Evans said in The Beatles Anthology. “When it looked like rain in the open air, I used to be scared stiff.

Sparks have shared “Veronica Lake,” the second single from their upcoming 26th album The Girl Is Crying in Her Latte.
From the moment it begins, “Veronica Lake” is a fast-paced synth bop that uses the titular actress and her “peek-a-boo” hairstyle as a metaphor for Hollywood gloom. While the narrative itself may be a little bit of a bummer, it’s combatted by excited clamors that grow more animated as the track rolls on: “That peek-a-booy hair, it’s a big mistake/ One again foreman yells, ‘put on the brake’/ As the blond wavy hair, millions partake/ And they fancy themselves Veronica Lake,” goes a zinger in the chorus.
Sparks have been making music for nearly five decades now — their last album being 2020’s A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip. Speaking on their upcoming one, the brothers said in a press release that it’s “as bold and uncompromising as anything we did back then or,...

Whitman will play a “punk rock lesbian” who is Randy’s (Josh Whitehouse, who succeeds Nicolas Cage) bandmate and best friend. Mary + Jane’s Jessica Rothe is in the role of Julie, who was played by Deborah Foreman in the original film. MGM’s backing the project, based on Martha Coolidge’s 1983 film, which will be directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg from a script by Amy Talkington, with some doctoring from Martin Noxon. Matt Smith—the Maleficent executive producer, not the Doctor—is producing. The original soundtrack, which includes some Toni Basil, Sparks, and Bananarama, should afford the filmmakers plenty of opportunities to make this a bitchin’ musical adaptation.

Amazon Studios has acquired the U.S. and Canadian distribution rights to “Annette,” starring Adam Driver and Rihanna, as reported by Variety. The musical drama will be helmed by French director Leos Carax (“Holy Motors”), who’s working in English for the first time.
“I hope to make a film one day that will be music. I wanted life in music, that is what I wanted here,” Carax told IndieWire’s Eric Kohn back in 2012. Now, he gets to do exactly that.
Shooting for “Annette” will begin in the spring and include several international locations. The film will feature original songs by American art-rock band Sparks.

This year, Rooney Mara will star in an epic-sounding arthouse music-centered drama shot across the world — but it won’t be Leos Carax‘s Annette. We heard rumblings of this earlier this year, but now Variety has confirmed that “other commitments” (i.e. production on Brady Corbet’s Vox Lux) has caused the Song to Song actress to drop out of Carax’s Holy Motors follow-up, which stars Adam Driver and Rihanna.
While producers are currently looking for another lead, there is some good news to go with the disappointment. Amazon Studios, coming off working with Jim Jarmusch, Kenneth Lonergan, Asghar Farhadi, Park Chan-wook, and James Gray, have picked up the film. Annette, marking Carax’s English-language debut, is a musical telling the tragic story of a stand-up comedian whose opera singer wife is deceased. He finds himself alone with his 2-year-old daughter who has a surprising gift.

The enigmatic French filmmaker Leos Carax started young, unveiling his idiosyncratic, imaginative debut, Boy Meets Girl, when he was all of 23. But in three decades since, he’s only completed four more features: the romanticized noir riff Mauvais Sang; The Lovers On The Bridge, which was at one point the most expensive film ever made in France; the dark Herman Melville adaptation Pola X; and the unclassifiable meta-whatsit Holy Motors. Fans have learned long ago not to trust reports on new projects.
Partly that’s because Carax movies (even the ones that get made) often sound too good to be true. Case in point: Annette, the English-language musical that director has been readying for the last couple of years, with a song by the art-pop duo Sparks. It’s been four years since Leos Carax blew minds with “Holy Motors,” and the filmmaker, whose never been in a particular rush between movies, has slowly been gearing up his next effort. In early 2015, Ron and Russell Mael of Sparks revealed they had already started work on a musical with Carax, and later that year, Adam Driver and Rooney Mara were said to be circling roles.

Sparks are flying for Kristen Wiig. The Ghostbusters star was spotted getting up close and personal with actor Avi Rothman while on vacation in romantic Kauai, Hawaii—a rare sighting for the typically private actress. The two were caught right in the middle of a smooch during their tropical vacation. Clad in bathing suits, the two were wrapped in each other's arms as they openly embraced in the sand. After her divorce from her former husband of four years, actor Hayes Hargrove, Wiig's last public relationship seemed to be in early 2012 when the SNL alum stepped out with Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti. However, their romance fizzled a year later and Wiig hasn't been...

It's been over three years since we've heard from French filmmaker Leos Carax (Holy Motors), but no, he was not hiding under un rocher (it means "a rock," duh). He was working with the band Sparks on a musical project, and French magazine Les Inrockuptibles reports that Rooney Mara and Adam Driver may be involved. Rooney Mara and Adam Driver singing together in a hyperstylized musical? Don't mind if we do! Judging by Driver's performance in Inside Llewyn Davis, and Rooney Mara's everything, we don't see how this could go wrong.

It's been over three years since Leos Carax unveiled his Denis Lavant powered "Holy Motors," and not much has been heard from the director since. Earlier this year, theatrical quirk-pop pranksters Sparks revealed they were working on a musical project with Carax, and it appears the pieces are starting to be pulled together. French magazine Les Inrockuptibles (via The Film Stage) reports that Rooney Mara and Adam Driver are circling a project to be lensed by cinematographer Caroline Champetier ("Holy Motors," "Of Gods And Men"). The musical comedy must secure financing for the 10 to 12 million Euro budget, so we'll see if this pans out. Moreover, there aren't any plot details yet, though trying to divine plot details for a Carax film doesn't seem wise. But as you might expect, this won't be a traditional song-and-dance effort. However, earlier this year we learned that things we moving forward on musical project involving Ron and Russell Mael‘s band Sparks. It’s said to avoid traditional “Broadway, razzmatazz” stylings, instead favoring an all-music approach “where sometimes the story is being progressed through dialogue that’s done in a hyper-stylized, sung/spoken way,” and we now, finally, have another update.

Everyone gets excited about movies for different reasons. There are plenty of times that something is announced and I look at Twitter or Facebook and see that people are going nuts for it, and I'm left cold by the news. Sometimes it's because a nostalgia button's been pushed, sometimes it's because of the creative elements involved. And there are plenty of times I put up a piece of news here and I'm thrilled about it and there reaction from you guys is a sort of deafening silence. So when I say that this is the most exciting film news that I've heard so far in 2015, I accept that my own excitement level may be pitched somewhere different than yours. But there's no way I can downplay the dopamine rush I got when I read that Leos Carax is deep into development of a new movie musical that will feature music by Sparks.

In terms of movie adaptations, the output of bestselling author Nicholas Sparks stands as a perfect example of Hollywood’s adherence to the phrase, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” The “it” in question is Sparks’ very clear formula. With films such as The Notebook, The Last Song and Dear John in his back catalogue, we would surely be forgiven for thinking his storytelling, by this point, is simply a case of joining up the dots, and his latest romance – The Longest Ride – certainly looks as though it will prove that to be true.

I have a confession to make: My little scoop empire was not built by me alone. I’ve had help along the way. Shocking, I know. But a key driving force behind the “Ausiello brand” has been someone who has largely remained behind the scenes. His name is Kit Cowan, and he’s one of the most talented designers/photographers/purveyors of good taste on the planet. He’s also, as luck would have it, my husband.
Chances are, if you have ever found yourself going “Wow, that looks cool” about anything I have produced over the past 13 years, Kit had a hand in it.

For the second year in a row, I’ve taken it upon myself to boil down some of what I feel is the year’s best music and boil it down to an accessible CD-80-friendly package, with the additional challenge of accompanying them with clips from some of the year’s more notable films. I pushed myself to the limits of my time-cruching abilities this time around; I still fell just shy of my 40-track goal, but I did cram in more movies this year, thanks partially to the brilliant idea of including some choice soundtrack snippets as well.

Breaking… Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable SportsNet have come to terms for the cabler to carry the sports channel and its Spanish-language sibling Deportes. That leaves DirecTV and Dish as the final holdouts among major providers. Last week At&T U-verse TV, Verizon FiOS and Charter Communications all fell in line in time for the Lakers season opener on Halloween. In addition to carrying the Lakers, Sportsnet and Deportes are the local TV homes for the La Galaxy and Los Angeles Sparks games. Sticking point as usual was pricing. Neither Cox nor TWC nor any of the other providers have commented on terms. Sports Networks come with hefty fees, and TWC’s asking price was reportedly $3.95 per subscriber. For comparison Disney’s Espn commands an average of $5.13 per sub each month, according to SNL Kagan. Six other regional sports networks receive more than $3 per subscriber.
