Just over a year ago, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was set to take Marvel Studios to the next level. A new villain was going to be introduced, setting the stage for several years’ worth of storytelling. And the movie itself was a giant-sizing of a franchise that was previously modest in scope. Instead, the Peyton Reed-directed movie heralded a year’s worth of missteps, box office blunders and PR nightmares. It was all uncharted territory for Marvel, which had steadily been generating box office gold for 15 years.

James Gunn widely known for his work in the superhero genre with MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise took over the reigns at DC Studios along with Peter Safran. Under DC Studios’ Gunn and Safran will co-produce and executive produce every film and TV series that will fall under DC Universe which is going to be a soft-reboot of the Dceu.
Apart from acting as the co-ceo of DC Studios, the ace filmmaker will continue to write and direct projects under Dcu. Superman: Legacy starring David Corenswet as Superman is going to be the first project under Dcu. When Marvel Television, the team that made shows like "Daredevil," "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", and "Inhumans," was disbanded in 2019 and the film executives from Marvel Studios firmly took the reins of the company's promising slate of TV shows about to hit Disney+, the reaction from comic book fans was a sigh of relief. Finally, all Marvel projects would be directly overseen by Kevin Feige and his team, which, given their track record in movies up to that point, should ensure a level of consistent quality across the board.
That was the dream. But that dream died surprisingly quickly.
"WandaVision" started strong and sputtered in its climax. "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" touched on a few interesting ideas, but got too bogged down with things like the "Power Broker." Look, despite the title, it's not exactly a mystery that Marvel's "Secret Invasion" all but crashed and burned upon release on Disney+ earlier this year. I would know, since I had to recap those episodes on a weekly basis! By far the most critically-savaged streaming series that the studio has ever released (not to mention a finale that somehow reached even lower lows), even the most diehard fans felt thrown off by a haphazard and aimless plot that meandered its way towards an anticlimactic ending, a head-scratching adaptation of a seminal comic book storyline, and the pervasive feeling that Emilia Clarke and Kingsley Ben-Adir were wasting their talents week in and week out. Oh, and of course, there was also the visual of Clarke's stubby Drax arm that instantly became a meme. It was a lot, folks.

It didn’t take long to see the problem after Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again paused production in mid-June during the writers strike. Fewer than half of the series’ 18 episodes had been shot, but it was enough for Marvel executives, including chief Kevin Feige, to review the footage and come away with a clear-eyed assessment: The show wasn’t working.
So, in late September, Marvel quietly let go of head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman and also released the directors for the remainder of the season as part of a significant creative reboot of the series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The studio is now on the hunt for new writers and directors for the project, which stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer turned superhero.

Seemingly over before it had even started, Kyle Bradstreet’s Secret Invasion has rolled the credits on its six-episode miniseries. Pitched as the long-awaited Nick Fury standalone for Samuel L. Jackson’s Marvel Cinematic Universe staple, we were warned this would only loosely adapt the 2008 comic arc of the same name. Still, did anyone expect things to go down quite like that?
With just six episodes and an average runtime of 40 minutes, critics feel that things were rushed toward “Home.” Rounding off the stories of Fury, Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), and G’iah (Emilia Clarke), as well as shoehorning in Super Skrulls And setting up Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels and Julius Onah’s Captain America: Brave New World was a lot for just 38 minutes (including credits).
With the writers throwing the kitchen sink at the Secret Invasion finale, it makes sense that a seemingly glaring plot hole slipped through the net.

This article contains spoilers for the series finale of "Secret Invasion."
That's ... it?
In retrospect, I'm not sure there was really any other way a show as underhyped and underwhelming as "Secret Invasion" would come to a conclusion, despite common sense and comic books telling us that this story really should've amounted to much, much more than what we ultimately got. From the beginning, Marvel's latest Disney+ offering came with the implicit promise of paranoia thriller trappings, political intrigue, and all the potential in the world to take the classic sci-fi concept of enemies hiding among us in plain sight and put a superhero spin on it. But the forgettable series we received instead only served as a reminder that, much like Nick Fury himself, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has clearly lost a step since blasting right past its most logical stopping point, "Avengers: Endgame," and forging ahead in perpetuity with nary a break.

Los Angeles, July 22 (Ians) Actor Kingsley Ben-Adir, who plays the role of the Skrull villain Gravik in ‘Secret Invasion’, has detailed his motivations and personality, saying that ultimately Gravik is someone who’s had too much of Nick Fury and his empty promises and now he trusts no one but himself.
Deception and manipulation are key points in spy-thrillers, and with no longer sure of who to trust anymore when amid massive chaos and looming destruction, Marvel Studios’, new series ‘Secret Invasion’ packs in a darker and more grounded approach to its storytelling.
Describing Gravik’s motivations, Ben-Adir said, “Gravik thinks that thirty years is a long time to be promised something and that the Skrulls are never going to get home. He’s definitely of the belief that nothing was going to change and that Fury’s full of it. He’s not buying any of it anymore. So,...

Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion is coming to Hulu. Ahead of the series’ season finale on Disney+, the first three episodes, “Resurrection,” “Promises” and “Betrayed” will begin streaming tomorrow July 21 through Thursday, August 17 on Hulu.
The first five episodes of the series, starring Samuel L. Jackson, are currently streaming on Disney +, with the finale Episode 6 premiering next Wednesday, July 26.

“Trust no one.” That bit of advice is the cornerstone of every paranoid thriller, whether it’s The X-Files, 70s classics like Three Days of the Condor, or recent entries such as Get Out.
As a show about shape-shifting aliens, Secret Invasion should be able to excel at “trust no one” better than any of its predecessors. Nearly anyone can be a Skrull, even Tony Stark’s best friend Rhodey, a mainstay of the MCU since its beginning (albeit played by different actors).
And yet, four episodes in, Secret Invasion’s biggest mystery is about the nature of the show itself. Is this a thriller about secret agent Nick Fury uncovering a vast conspiracy? Los Angeles, June 27 (Ians) The espionage thriller series ‘Secret Invasion’ shows a newer version of former S.H.I.E.L.D director ‘Nick Fury’, who has finally gotten his own show. However, it is not at all pleasant because as the show explores more of Nick Fury’s character, his growing age is something that is heavily focused upon as characters, including his closest allies have not shied away from calling him out on his dustiness.
Speaking about the character,SamuelL.Jacksonsaid, “He’s older and he’s tired. He’s not sure of his footing anymore. He’s been sort of incognito and up there on S.A.B.E.R. for years, and it’s so long since he’s been in touch with people. He’s ghosted a lot of people, and so when they call him, he’s not coming back down to Earth super willingly.

When we first meet Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) again in Marvel’s new Disney+ streaming series, Secret Invasion, he’s a different man than when we last saw him.
Dressed in grubby street clothes as opposed to his usual sleek black tactical gear, his eyepatch missing, his beard grown out and his posture a bit slumped, the usually unflappable former head of S.H.I.E.L.D. finally seems old. Almost defeated. But that’s what years of protecting the Earth from menaces both homegrown and otherworldly will do to you, right?
“Nick Fury [is] a human being, not a superhero,” says director Ali Selim, who helms all six episodes of Secret Invasion, starting with today’s (June 21) premiere. “He returns to Earth and puts his feet on the ground…he’s aging, which is interesting to me, gaining wisdom, losing a step, finding purpose within a world that is changing.

If the first episode of Kyle Bradstreet’s Secret Invasion has taught us anything, it’s to trust no one. With shocking Skrull reveals and even more shocking deaths, the six-episode series got off to a flying start as a loose adaptation of the 2008 comic series and a long-awaited standalone story for Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.
Hopefully taking some of the secrets out of Secret Invasion, fans are hoping to find out more about Nicholas J. Fury. It took the Marvel Cinematic Universe 11 years to tell us how Fury ended up with his signature eyepatch in Captain Marvel, and with a convenient 30-year gap between that adventure and the events of Secret Invasion, there are plenty of gaps to fill in – even with him being a pile of dust for five of them.

While describing the show, director Ali Selim said, “I think that the series has a really interesting subversive Marvel tone that takes it and flips it on its head, which I think will challenge, surprise and please the audience and give them something unique and different.”
Elaborating on the story, Ali said, “It goes back to Nick Fury. It’s the Nick story. And Nick is a human. Whatever we think about his trench coat and his eyepatch and how cool Sam Jackson is, Nick Fury is a human. He’s a human with a certain kind of power, but not a superpower like Captain America or Captain Marvel. So, that immediately demands a more grounded, gritty series.”

[This story contains mild spoilers for the first episode of Secret Invasion.]
When Emilia Clarke played Qi’ra, her fan-favorite Solo: A Star Wars Story character, she wrote countless pages that detailed her character’s unseen past and future. For Secret Invasion and her latest apostrophe-name character, G’iah, Clarke opted to take a more improvisational approach to backstory alongside her co-star Ben Mendelsohn, who played Young G’iah’s Skrull father, Talos, in Captain Marvel’s 1995-set story. So, in addition to their scripts, the duo used their storytelling instincts to fill in nearly three decades’ worth of off-screen story.
At the start of Secret Invasion, the Skrull father and daughter are estranged, as the entirety of the Skrulls are at odds, resulting in rival factions. G’iah is currently associated with Gravik’s (Kingsley Ben-Adir) Skrull rebellion, and she helps him carry out his violent objective of seizing Earth since Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) failed to...

Marvel’s Secret Invasion, streaming in weekly instalments on Disney Plus, is the ninth television series set in the MCU. Consisting of six episodes and created by showrunner Kyle Bradstreet, it is loosely based on a 2008 Marvel Comics event of the same name. However, whereas the comics event involved multiple superheroes, the TV series has been essentially reconfigured as a headlining show for Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.
The show picks up thirty years after the events of Captain Marvel (2019), which introduced the Skrulls, a race of shape-shifting aliens, lead by Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who became a close ally of Fury. However, as the show begins, a group of renegade Skrulls have grown tired of waiting three decades for Fury to deliver on his promise of finding them a new planet,...

Who can you trust? That’s the central question of Secret Invasion, the latest MCU tv series on Disney Plus. Of course, Secret Invasion showrunner Kyle Bradstreet intends that question to be directed toward the characters in the show. After all, when super-spy Nick Fury learns about a terrorist cell of shape-shifting Skrulls working to conquer the earth, no one can trust their eyes. But when the series’ first episode released this morning, another type of deception upset viewers.
After a shocking cold open, Secret Invasion episode one goes into the type of opening credit sequence that we’ve grown accustomed to during the era of peak tv. Impressionistic images of humans in cities such as London and Moscow melt away into green-skinned Skrulls, while Kris Bowers’ haunting score plays. At first glance, the opening credit sequence brings a surprising amount of artistry to the sci-fi series.
Of course, it’s all a lie.

In Marvel’s Secret Invasion, former Shield director Nick Fury is old, jaded, and tired. He doesn’t really want to get involved in the Earth’s struggles anymore, but he wearily accepts that if the show must go on, so must he. If there’s any subtext here, it will not be lost on those who have found themselves falling out of love with the MCU in recent years. For everyone else, including Nick, it’s stiff upper lip time.
The show’s opening episode, “Resurrection”, focuses on Nick returning to Earth from his long vacation aboard the Saber space station. A gang of Skrull refugees he helped in the 1990s have become disillusioned with their outlook in the decades since their first encounter, as the new home planet he and Carol Danvers promised them in 2019’s Captain Marvel never materialized. They’re rightfully pissed about it,...

At its most potent, shape-shifting isn’t a parlor trick. It’s one piece of a much larger puzzle. Take the original “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”: In the 1956 film — to which Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” is plainly indebted — alien spores grow into exact replicas of their human subjects, and these “pod people” slowly take over the town. While devoid of human emotion, the aliens assume each citizen’s memory, personality, and physical appearance, which makes it easy enough to replace their human targets without causing a stir. But all that body-swapping isn’t a game of Who’s Who. It gets under your skin, creating a tone of paranoia, panic, and fear that only grows with each chilling discovery. The payoff doesn’t come from one more rug being pulled, but crescendos in a conclusive tragedy.
Another equally effective use of mistaken identities appears in the “Mission: Impossible” movies.

It isn’t that I don’t enjoy a good superhero show or movie, but I like it when Marvel gets playful with genre. It’s the reason I always say that my favorite film in the MCU is the first 45 minutes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the part that’s basically a ’70s conspiracy thriller, before the action gets bigger and the tone becomes more conventional. I loved WandaVision at its meta-sitcom-y peak and thought Hawkeye was most charming as Marvel’s explosive take on a Hallmark holiday film.
So when the logline for Secret Invasion, Disney+’s latest six-parter, suggested a paranoid Cold War drama with a backdrop of conquering lizard-aliens, that got my pulse racing a little.
Through two episodes, the series itself is a disappointment. A tremendous cast, led by Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Colman and Don Cheadle, keeps things generally watchable and,...

In new series Secret Invasion, Nick Fury must thwart a conspiracy by those pesky, shape-shifting Skrulls. Yet as Samuel L. Jackson and more explain, this might be the most grounded – and most chilling – MCU adventure yet.

As anyone who’s ever glanced at a T-shirt stall at Comic-Con can tell you, Samuel L. Jackson’s Avengers-assembling master-spy is instantly recognisable from his outline alone. The eye patch. The goatee. The long, black leather trench coat.
This is not the Nick Fury we meet in Marvel’s new six-episode espionage thriller Secret Invasion. “All those things are part of a Nick Fury that’s invulnerable,” explains Jackson, ruminating on why his character is finally exposing his Flerken-mauled left eye to the world. “Here you...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is back in business, and from our first look at Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels, it’s a woman’s world. Well, a woman’s cosmos. The sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel brings Brie Larson back as Carol Danvers, while WandaVision standout Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Cap superfan Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) from Ms. Marvel are along for the ride.
Donning his eyepatch for more, Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury, and as the bald badass played a crucial role in Danvers’ origin story, it’s only right he’s back by her side. It’s a big year for Jackson, and after leading Secret Invasion in June, he’s blasting off into space for The Marvels in November. While the many time jumps, Blips, and the Multiverse have confused the timeline, some fans think The Marvels just spoiled Secret Invasion.

Disney+ has unveiled the first trailer for Marvel’s “Secret Invasion,” a six-episode limited series that brings the real Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time since “Avengers: Endgame.”
“Fury, since you’ve been gone, things have gotten so much worse,” Skrull leader Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) says in the new teaser. Responds Fury, “Why do you think I came back?”
Fury and Talos have a history dating back to the events of “Captain Marvel,” when Fury promised Talos and the Skrulls he’d help the displaced, shapeshifting alien race to find a new home. The pair connected again, albeit in a clandestine fashion in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” That film, which debuted just after “Avengers: Endgame,” featured a heavy dose of “Nick Fury,” but it wasn’t actually Nick Fury. As a post-credits scene revealed, the Fury of “Spider-Man: Far From Home” was actually Talos himself; Fury,...

Disney also announced that the show will premiere on June 21.
As MCU fans saw with “Captain Marvel” in 2019, Nick Fury has had an alien ally for decades in Talos (Ben Mendelson), the leader of a sect of aliens called Skrulls who have taken refuge on Earth after their homeworld was destroyed.
But as seen in the new trailer, that sect is becoming a threat thanks to rogue Skrull named Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), who has formed his own group apart from Talos and believes the best way for the Skrulls to survive is to use their shapeshifting powers to infiltrate Earth’s government and take what they need.

After many months of waiting, Marvel Studios has finally dropped a new trailer for "Secret Invasion." Starring the legendary Samuel L. Jackson as super-spy Nick Fury, the upcoming Disney+ original miniseries delves into an underground conspiracy unlike any the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen before.
When he learns that a radical group of Skrulls has been secretly infiltrating Earth's society, the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. is determined to stop them by any means necessary. But with their shape-shifting abilities, these operatives could be hiding in plain sight, disguising themselves as crossing guards, doctors, government officials, or even Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Since our first look at the show from "Mr. Robot" creator Kyle Bradstreet dropped at last year's D23 Expo, there hasn't been a ton of talk "Secret Invasion." A few theories have surfaced about what exactly could be going on, and stars like Emilia Clarke...

“Secret Invasion” also introduces Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman and Kingsley Ben-Adir to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to sources, Ben-Adir is set to play a main villain in the show, which is set to bow June 21 on Disney+.
The new footage debuted April 2 during ESPN’s presentation of a “Sunday Night Baseball” game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers.

As anticipation builds for new Marvel’s “Secret Invasion”, more information is emerging about the upcoming Disney+ series.
Starring Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders, “Secret Invasion” finds Fury heading a covert mission after discovering that shape-shifting Skrulls (the alien race introduced in “Captain Marvel”) have secretly infiltrated all levels of human society in plans of taking over the planet from within.
Also starring in the series are “Game of Thrones” alum and former “The Crown” star Olivia Colman, and a new feature on the show in Vanity Fair reveals they’ll be playing characters on opposite sides of the conflict.
Clarke plays G’iah, daughter of Skrull commander Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn. As Jackson pointed out, this isn’t the character’s first appearance in the MCU. “Remember when Ben was there with his wife and daughter?” Jackson said. “She’s the little Skrull girl grown up. She’s his daughter.

Nick Fury has a lot on his plate in the upcoming Marvel TV series “Secret Invasion,” and you can see just how much in the first trailer, which debuted Saturday during Marvel’s presentation at D23 Expo 2022.
Watch it above now.
It starts with Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) returning from space, looking pretty grizzled. Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) meets him in a bar and dresses him down for not showing up to help with other unnamed problems that have presumably happened since he left Earth.
“Three years, you’ve been avoiding Earth. I have called for your help plenty of other times. And you’ve been pretty content to let those calls go straight to voicemail.”
“Yeah well. This is different,” Fury says. And it is!

Who can you trust? This is probably a question that Nick Fury has asked himself every day of his life. At least, every day since he became the Marvel Cinematic Universe's super spy. As he's grown older, the list of answers to that question has gotten shorter and shorter for one reason or another. But now, the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. might as well throw out the whole damn list thanks to "Secret Invasion."
In the latest Marvel Studios series for Disney+, Fury learns that a radical group of Skrulls has been secretly infiltrating Earth for an undetermined amount of time. Due to their shape-shifting powers, they could literally be anybody in the world. From the next-door neighbor to the local mail carrier to government officials to Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the suspects are endless. So it's up to Marvel's spy extraordinaire to solve potentially the...

The wait is (almost) over for Marvel’s “Secret Invasion.”
Disney unveiled a trailer for the upcoming series at D23, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn.
Creator Kyle Bradstreet serves as head writer, with Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim directing the six-episode series. The cast also includes Cobie Smulders, Don Cheadle, and Martin Freeman reprising their existing MCU roles, as well as Kingsley Ben-Adir, Carmen Ejogo, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and more.
“Secret Invasion” has been teased since as early as “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” when Jackson’s Nick Fury turned out to be a shape-shifting alien skrull the whole time. At the end of “WandaVision,” a skrull approaches Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and invites her to meet with Fury in space.
The skrulls themselves, starting with Mendelsohn’s Talos, were introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019’s “Captain Marvel” as villains, but later turned out to be layered,...
