Harvey Weinstein’s Estranged Wife Georgina Chapman on Life After Scandal: ‘Humiliated and So Broken’
Georgina Chapman, Harvey Weinstein’s soon-to-be ex-wife, was “so humiliated and so broken” when she learned of mounting accusations of sexual misconduct against the movie mogul. It got so bad, Chapman recalled in an interview with Vogue, that she couldn’t go out in public and rapidly dropped weight.
“I was so humiliated and so broken . . . that . . . I, I, I . . . didn’t think it was respectful to go out,” said the designer. “I thought, ‘Who am I to be parading around with all of this going on?’ It’s still so very, very raw. I was walking up the stairs the other day and I stopped; it was like all the air had been punched out of my lungs.”
When the first set of accusations against Weinstein came out in October, first in The New York Times and then in The New Yorker, Chapman said she “lost ten pounds in five days” because she “couldn’t keep food down.”

When asked how long it took her to absorb the information, she said “about two days.”
“My head was spinning,” she added. “And it was difficult because the first article was about a time long before I’d ever met him, so there was a minute where I couldn’t make an informed decision. And then the stories expanded and I realized that this wasn’t an isolated incident. And I knew that I needed to step away and take the kids out of here.”
The painful thing for her, Chapman said, is that she thought she had a “very happy marriage” with Weinstein and never suspected a thing.

According to Vogue reporter Jonathan Van Meter, Chapman broke down in tears, saying, “There was a part of me that was terribly naive — clearly, so naive. I have moments of rage, I have moments of confusion, I have moments of disbelief! And I have moments when I just cry for my children. What are their lives going to be?”
In October, Chapman decided to leave Weinstein. The former actress and co-founder of the fashion label Marchesa was married to Weinstein since 2007. They have two children, a seven-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.
