Chef Mauro Colagreco: “When you work with a product from nature you try to make it something beautiful. It’s my way of creation.”
A highlight of the 21st edition of the Tribeca Film Festival is Vérane Frédiani and Franck Ribière’s brilliant documentary Reinventing Mirazur, executive produced by Yuji Shimoyama and Quentin Ransohoff, on Argentinian Chef Mauro Colagreco and his team working on a new menu for the reopening of his restaurant following the removal of the lockdown in France.
Chef Mauro Colagreco with Anne-Katrin Titze on the Lunar Calendar: “It was Rudolf Steiner, who was the father of Biodynamics who worked on it. And then Maria Thun …”
According to the Lunar Calendar there are flower days, root days, leaf days, and fruit days. This enchantingly poetic concept, based on cosmic changes and the position of the planet, decides the menu daily in one of the greatest restaurants of the world.

Chef Mauro Colagreco of the three-Michelin star restaurant Mirazur will be attending the June 13 North American premiere of the documentary “Reinventing Mirazur” at the Tribeca Film Festival. In a clip released ahead of its premiere in Variety, Colagreco explains the new philosophy behind the restaurant’s menus, borne out of the pandemic.
As described, the doc takes “a deep dive into the life of Chef Mauro, who finds himself changing everything about his flagship restaurant after the Covid-19 pandemic halted his worldwide rise to prominence.”
Forced to go into hiatus not long after his Menton, France-based restaurant was awarded the coveted three Michelin stars and the No.1 spot in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2019, Colagreco spent more time in his estate’s vast vegetable and flower garden and came up with the idea to introduce menus pegged to the cycles of the moon. Boiling Point (Philip Barantini)
More often than not, one-take films struggle to justify their gimmick. Whether shot in one go or utilizing an intensive editing process to appear like so, the technique almost always threatens to overshadow whatever story is at the center rather than emphasizing it. Used correctly, it can prove immersive in the exact same way as a theatrical production—breaking down barriers between performer and audience, who can see their work unfold in real-time. Unfortunately, the impracticality of telling a story this way is usually highlighted via several scenes of actors slowly walking between filming locations. – Alistair R. (full review)

One of the films that entered Austin’s Fantanstic Film Fest with a lot of buzz was the follow-up film from the directors of the French splatter film Inside. Livid, a film by Julien Maury & Alexandre Bustillo, is an entirely different type of film though. It is one that is more interested in creepy imagery and haunted house tropes than the buckets of blood seen in their break-out hit. You can read our early review of the film from Fantastic Fest by clicking Here. Judging from the first poster from the film, seen below, I will say that it gives a fair preview of what to expect in the film.

The Last Circus is a Spanish language film that will be releasing in some theatres August 19th, thanks to Magnolia Pictures. This is a surreal film that puts a clown in the middle of the Spanish Civil War. The film seems to jump from frame to frame in the red band trailer for the film, while a sneering clown unloads clip after clip. This clown is not out to bring smiles but bloodshed and fans of the film can enjoy the North American poster for the film here. The graphic tells fans: "it's showtime!" And the show begins this summer.
A partial synopsis for The Last Circus is here:
"1937: Spain is in the midst of the brutal Spanish Civil War. A 'Happy' circus clown is interrupted mid-performance and forcibly recruited by a militia. Still in his costume, he is handed a machete and led into battle against National soldiers,...
