Avenged Sevenfold have unleashed Life Is But a Dream…, their eighth studio album and first full-length LP in seven years. Stream it now via the players below.
Life Is But a Dream…, as described in a press release, “is designed to provoke and inspire, courageously broadening the new wave of American heavy metal sound pioneered by the band with confidence, attitude and intention.”
Thematically, the album offers “a celebration and liberation of life while exploring the possible illusion of free will and determinism.”
As evidenced by the previously released singles “Nobody” and “We Love You,” Avenged Sevenfold took a new sonic approach to the album. “We Love You” especially marks new territory for the band, a bit reminiscent of Mr. Bungle’s experimental sound in the ’90s.
Life Is But a Dream… features 11 new songs, with “Nobody” already hitting the Top 5 at rock radio. The band’s current lineup includes M. Shadows,...

Singer M. Shadows has revealed that Avenged Sevenfold were behind the deepfake A.I. “hack” that falsely announced the cancellation of the band’s festival appearances.
Back in February, an episode of the band’s “Trax” podcast was uploaded with a snippet of audio that appeared to be M. Shadows addressing fans, informing them that Avenged Sevenfold would no longer appear at two US festivals — Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple — as the band completed work on its long-awaited album, Life Is But a Dream…, due out this Friday (June 2nd).
The episode was uploaded to Spotify and shared on the band’s Twitter account. M. Shadows soon responded: “Yikes! This is Not True. We are still playing. Getting to the bottom of this. … What the actual fuck… Not Me!”
As it turns out, Avenged Sevenfold were orchestrating a bizarre augmented reality stunt to promote their new album. They did,...

A new trend of creating music generated by artificial intelligence (AI) is not sitting well with Corey Taylor. The Slipknot singer has lambasted the practice, saying he “can’t stand it.”
AI-generated music has made headlines recently for mimicking popular artists, with fans even being fooled last month by what appeared to be a “new” song by Drake and The Weeknd. Other acts have also been “copied” using technology that mirrors their voices and even writes lyrics in the style of specific musicians.
Some artists, like Avenged Sevenfold singer M. Shadows, have hailed the technology, calling it an “incredible tool” for musicians, but not Taylor. The Slipknot frontman is clearly not a fan of AI-generated music, as he declared in a new interview with Kerrang! Radio.
“I don’t care for any of that crap, dude, to be honest,” Taylor said. “I don’t know what people are trying to prove.

The 2023 edition of Welcome to Rockville took place over four days from Thursday (May 18th) to Sunday (May 21st) in Daytona Beach, Florida. The massive rock fest was led by headliners Tool, Pantera, Slipknot, and Avenged Sevenfold, while also featuring dozens more notable acts.
The festival closed out on Sunday with Tool’s first show of the year. The performance was particularly notable in that singer Maynard James Keenan dressed in drag just days after Governor Ron DeSantis signed a new anti-drag bill into law. As for the music, the band played a brief 10-song set that included classics like “Forty Six & 2” and “Stinkfist” alongside newer tracks like “Fear Inoculum” and “Invincible.”
Elsewhere on Sunday, Incubus paused their set for a moment to help a distressed fan. The band performed with new touring bassist Nicole Row, filling in for Ben Kenney after he underwent surgery for a brain tumor. Other highlights included sets from Deftones,...

A hacker apparently used deepfake AI technology to emulate singer M. Shadows’ voice and falsely announce the cancellation of Avenged Sevenfold’s upcoming festival appearances.
On a recently uploaded episode of the band’s “Trax” podcast, a voice appearing to be that of M. Shadows revealed that Avenged Sevenfold would no longer appear at two upcoming US festivals — Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple — as the band completes work on a long-awaited new album.
The entire announcement was convincingly professional overall. But as it turns out, the podcast upload was entirely bogus.
The episode was uploaded to Spotify and shared on the band’s Twitter account. Shadows soon replied: “Yikes! This is Not True. We are still playing. Getting to the bottom of this.”
“Literally walking in the streets of Mexico and listening to this,” Shadows later posted. “What the actual fuck… Not Me!”

System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan unveiled a hard-rock reworking of Radiohead’s “Street Spirit” — featuring a searing guitar solo from Tom Morello — that will appear on his upcoming solo debut, These Grey Men, out February 28th.
“This song in particular is a really touching and moving song,” Dolmayan tells Rolling Stone about why he chose to cover the standout track from The Bends. “I love the morose, in-your-room-and-it’s-raining-outside, it’s cold, and your girlfriend dumped you feeling that this song always gave me.… But when I listened to it,...

Avenged Sevenfold have canceled their upcoming summer tour after singer M. Shadows was struck by a viral infection that left him “voiceless.”
“I tried my best to take care of the situation with voice rest, medication and doctor visits but my voice was only getting worse,” Shadows wrote of his affliction in a statement to fans.
“After a week of steroids the swelling went down enough to see the cause of the problem. A blood blister has formed on my vocal folds and is preventing them from vibrating properly. In short,...

The first half of 2013 has been a pretty varied and interesting one for albums, with highlights coming from My Bloody Valentine, David Bowie, Justin Timberlake and She & Him. However, there are many more to come. This list features ten established bands or artists whose upcoming albums are eagerly anticipated; of course there will be successful debut albums too, but we have less evidence to base those releases on at this point.
