Director Sam Mendes has reportedly said that he wants to release his four films about The Beatles on the same day in 2027.
Skyfall and 1917 director Sam Mendes has set himself the formidable task of making four back-to-back films about The Beatles – and according to a new report, he’s come up with a similarly novel approach to their release.
As reported by journalist Jeff Sneider (via World of Reel), Mendes recently told students at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts that he plans to have all four movies appear in cinemas on the same day.
Aside from Clue, the 1985 comedy mystery that had a different ending depending on which cinema you saw it in, this writer can’t recall another instance of multiple films from the same director releasing on the same day. Perhaps one of you wonderful readers can point out another precedent.

What’s Sam Mendes have in store next for audiences after 2022’s “Empire Of Light“? Well, World Of Reel reports (via The InSneider) that it may be not one movie, but four: biopics on each member of arguably the greatest pop-rock group ever, The Beatles. Yup, that’s a movie each for John, Paul, George, and Ringo. In other words, eat your heart of Peter Jackson: “The Beatles: Get Back” may no longer be the apex of Beatles visual projects any longer.

Sam Mendes is undoubtedly one of the best filmmakers of our times. Among his many hit films are American Beauty (1999), which earned him the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Director, then Road to Perdition (2002), Jarhead (2005), Revolutionary Road (2008), the James Bond films Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015), and the critically acclaimed war film 1917 (2019). He also made Empire of Light in 2022 but has not been active since. Yet, earlier this year, it was reported that Mendes was working on an ambitious four-film project related to arguably the best band ever – The Beatles!
Mandes is working on four individual biopics, each dedicated to one member of the famous group – John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. All four movies are currently planned for a 2027 release, which demonstrates just how big this project is. But this is old news. What we have for you here is some important casting information,...

Despite the Fab Four’s massive popularity, Beatlemania wasn’t of much interest for filmmakers for a long time. As for large movie projects about this group, fans have only seen Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Nowhere Boy (2009) about John Lennon’s teenage years.
This February every Beatles fan was blown away by the news that Sam Mendes will install the Beatles Cinematic Universe that will include four movies, each told from the perspective of every band member.
More than that, it has been recently reported that the director has already cast the Fab Four actors, and at first glance it seems to be a fan cast.
The biopics will assemble Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw) as John Lennon, Paul Mescal (Normal People) as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) as Ringo Starr and Charlie Rowe (Red Band Society) as George Harrison.

The cast of actors set to play The Beatles across four Sam Mendes films has reportedly been set, and includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney.
We’ve known for a couple of months that Sam Mendes is set to produce four interconnected films based on The Beatles, perhaps the world’s most famous band in history.
All four films are to be released in the space of a year, with 2027 being the target. In a rather interesting approach, each film will be situated from a different band member’s point of view, meaning we’re getting Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison’s stories. McCartney and Starr have agreed full life story and music rights, and the families of Lennon and Harrison have done the same.
Considering that Mendes has got four films to get working on, we’d imagine he’s keen to get going. As such,...

It was announced earlier this year that Sam Mendes was undertaking an ambitious project involving one of the biggest bands in history: The Beatles. Instead of just one movie, Mendes is set to direct four movies, each telling the story from the point of view of a different member of the Beatles. Jeff Sneider has the scoop on who could play the Fab Four.
According to Sneider, the potential cast for Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies includes Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw) as John Lennon, Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) as Ringo Starr, and Charlie Rowe (Rocketman) as George Harrison. As Sneider himself states, there has been no confirmation that these actors will take on the roles at the end of the day; They’re just who Mendes is considering at the moment.

Slow Horses is finally back with a whole new season filled with espionage, institutional failure, corruption, dark jokes, and deadly farts. The Apple TV+ series recently came out with its much anticipated third season and once again it revolves around the MI5 failures who are occupying Slough House. In the new season, we see a member of the Slow Horses getting kidnapped and how the rest of the team fights with everything they have to get them back.
As always Slow Horses isn’t your typical spy thriller because its characters and stories are as far from James Bond as they could be, and in my opinion, that’s what made Slow Horses one of the best espionage thriller ever made.

Exclusive: Roadside Attractions has acquired North American rights to The Last Rider, the story of cycling legend Greg LeMond, who came back from a near death experience to win his sport’s greatest race.
LeMond remains the only American man to win the Tour de France, a feat he accomplished three times – in 1986, 1989 and 1990 (Tour victories by Americans Lance Armstrong and Floyd Landis were vacated after they admitted using banned performance-enhancing drugs). Remarkably, LeMond’s second and third Tour de France wins came after he was nearly killed in a hunting accident, in which his brother-in-law accidentally blasted him with a shotgun, hitting LeMond with 60 pellets. He lost 65 percent of his blood, but somehow survived.
The documentary directed by Alex Holmes will be released in theaters on June 23.

Film premiere and headlines spilling from a trio of fests in full swing (Venice), just starting (Telluride) and queued up (Toronto) have indie exhibitors and distributors the most hopeful since Covid hit that a stream of new films could fire up the arthouse market.
Tod Fields’ Cate Blanchett-starrer Tár (debuted to a six-minute standing ovation in Venice), Timothée Chalamet in Luca Guadagnino’s Bones And All (also just screened on the Lido), and Empire of Light with Olivia Colman, set to world premiere at Telluride, and a raft of others are slated for fall theatrical release. A deluge of specialty films from Sundance and Cannes will also move into U.S. cinemas later this month.
“Arthouse theaters are behind where they were in 2019, but I think this fall things will come racing back. These festivals have the goods,” said John Vanco, Gm of New York’s IFC Center.

As a self-described mother bear, Marcia Gay Harden says she can easily identify with her tough-but-nurturing character in Gigi & Nate, a poignant movie about a boy and his unlikely service animal who helps everyone move past their family tragedy.
Just weeks before he was heading to college, Nate Gibson (Charlie Rowe) suffers a near-fatal illness and is left with quadriplegia. Moving forward seems impossible – especially because he is in pain and laced with doubt and depression – until he meets Gigi (Allie), a curious and intelligent capuchin money – who helps Nate find what he needs the most: hope.
At face value, Gigi & Nate is about a disabled boy and his monkey overcoming hardship and succeeding together, but it is clearly about so much more!

“Gigi & Nate” begins with two leaps. The first is out of terror, when Gigi, a capuchin monkey at a sad-sack roadside petting zoo, tries to steer clear of her “caretaker.” The second is the sweet leap of boy-joy that 17-year-old Nate Gibson takes off a rocky ledge and into a pond. In this amiable, if unnecessarily manipulative, movie about the human-animal bond — as well as the different forms resilience can take — that fateful second leap will lead the young man and the monkey to each other.
Gigi is rescued by a woman who works for an organization that provides service animals to people with disabilities. Nate (played by British rising star Charlie Rowe) is initially not so fortunate. Hulu, currently owned two-thirds by Disney and one-third by Comcast, has been a great friend to arthouse cinema and independent film. The streaming platform’s pre-existing output deals with Neon, IFC, and Magnolia, as well as its in-house relationship with Searchlight, keeps the distributors in business. The only other major entity with similar deals is Showtime, which carries A24 and Bleecker Street.

Disney, by the way, is contractually obligated to buy out Comcast’s stake in Hulu in January 2024; the minimum valuation for the profitable streaming service (still a rarity!

"Gigi allows me to live my life to the fullest every single day. I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for her." Roadside Attractions has revealed an official trailer for a true story inspirational dramedy titled Gigi & Nate, from filmmaker Nick Hamm. The film is arriving in theaters in early September, for those interested in watching. A young man's life is turned upside down after he is left a quadriplegic. Moving forward seems near impossible until he meets his unlikely service animal, Gigi - a curious and intelligent capuchin monkey. She helps Nate find what he needs most: hope. Charlie Rowe stars in the film as Nate, with an ensemble cast including Zoe Margaret Colletti, Marcia Gay Harden, Josephine Langford, Jim Belushi (!!), Diane Ladd, Tara Summers, and Hannah Alligood. This looks extra cheesy, especially with the music in this trailer, but the little monkey is so adorable and so lovely.

All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 27 to cast their 2022 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for programs. Unlike the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally. In the past, voters were limited in the number of programs that they could put forth. Five years ago, that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted.
While the comedy and drama series ballots have each maintained an average of over 100 entrants in recent years, there have nearly always been fewer than 40 choices in the limited series genre. This year, however, the field is much larger at 61, which is up by 24 from last year. There were 41 contenders in 2020, 35 in 2019, and 33 in 2018. Five series from the list below will make the cut and be announced as Emmy nominees on July 12.

It takes a lot to be a bombshell. Emmy Rossum transformed into busty billboard queen Angelyne for the eponymous Peacock series, premiering May 19, but the physical embodiment of the performance artist took a toll on the “Shameless” alum.
Rossum, who also executive produces the series alongside husband and “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail, revealed that she spent an average of four to five hours in makeup every day and bleached her eyebrows for the role. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Rossum also got blisters from the fake breasts and suffered tear duct issues from wearing two pairs of contact lenses.
“The physicality of the character was challenging,” Rossum told the outlet. “The body is heavy, yet it has to feel light and effervescent…I found it to be completely liberating to look in the mirror and not see myself at all. At first, it’s unnerving. But feeling lost gives way...

Most Angelenos know the Billboard Queen, Angelyne. The enigmatic human Barbie, self-described as a “Rorschach test in pink,” has been a mainstay of Los Angeles culture ever since billboards bearing her face and name began popping up throughout the city in 1984. She’s frequently spotted driving around L.A. in her signature pink Corvette, selling merchandise out of her trunk and charging 20 for a photograph.
Notoriously private about her true identity (although she has run for office more than once), she re-entered the spotlight in 2017, when a Hollywood Reporter exposé revealed her to be Renee Tami Goldberg, the daughter of two Holocaust survivors who created the fantastical identity of Angelyne through sheer willpower and a thirst for fame.
Now, that investigation has been adapted as a scripted series for Peacock, starring and executive produced by Emmy Rossum (“Shameless”). The real Angelyne was initially set to appear in the series, but...
