It says a lot that Katya Jones winning Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 is arguably the least interesting thing to happen to her since joining the show. Along the way, the Russian dancer has faced scandals, divorce and arguments with her partners, while honing a skill for polishing untrained celebrities into dance diamonds. Where certain pros who may now sit on the judging panel would get lumped with a “joke” contestant like, off the top of my head, Ann Widdecombe, and accept that stereotype, giving them unchallenging choreography and even, say, dragging them around the floor, Jones never does. For her, there are no “joke” contestants. Not Ed Balls. Not Tony Adams.
On day one of her first season in 2017, the pro was dropped in at the deep end. Partnered with Balls, a former shadow chancellor famous for, among other things, tweeting the words “Ed Balls” with no explanation, she chose to swim.

The so-called “Strictly curse” has been a tabloid mainstay for at least a decade, founded on the idea that participating on Strictly Come Dancing (whether as a celebrity or a professional dancer) threatens the status of the relationship you’re in when you sign up.
Stories of its destructive power arrive like clockwork each winter. Along with forgotten B-listers and stars of Holby City and/or EastEnders hitting the dance floor, hysterical headlines will report on Strictly duos left so erotically charged in pasodoble rehearsals that they dump their spouses.
Presenter Claudia Winkleman has repeatedly shot down the curse, once saying that it’s less a supernatural occurrence as merely the Strictly experience being “intoxicating”. It is also true that dancing is an obvious aphrodisiac. Regardless whether you're rehearsing an intimate routine or not, dancing releases endorphins and makes you happy (it’s science!). Similarly, throwing yourself into a diligent...

In football – and sport in general – there aren’t many who make their mark both as a player and a manager, but one man who did was Jack Charlton. Talented certainly, but it was the big man’s personality that really stood out, and this feature-length documentary captures it in some style.
Finding Jack Charlton is nothing short of a masterpiece, deftly balancing the film’s three main sub-plots: his glorious reign as manager of the Republic of Ireland, relationship with his brother, Bobby Charlton, and the unfortunate onset of dementia in his twilight years. The geniuses behind it all are ITV Sport reporter, Gabriel Clarke, who has also produced features on Joe Calzaghe and Brian Clough, and filmmaker Pete Thomas.
But this blows them all out of the water. The way each aspect of Charlton’s life is intertwined over and over again is filmmaking of the highest calibre.

Director Vaughan Sivell spent three years making the 4 x 60’ documentary, and collected more than 2,000 hours of footage.
Three years in the making, Vaughan Sivell’s documentary Pistorius will be launched worldwide on Amazon Prime Video on Sept 6.
The 4 x 60’ episodes follow Oscar Pistorius’ rise to sporting fame as a Paralympic champion, the fateful night in February 2013 when he shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, and the subsequent murder trial.
The series also explores his rise and fall in the context of contemporary, turbulent South Africa.
Director Sivell told Screen: “Modern South Africa, the country, and Oscar Pistorius were born a few years apart.

Amazon has picked up “Pistorius,” a four-part documentary about the South African runner who killed his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Originally made as a feature-length documentary, Amazon will roll it out exclusively around the world on Prime Video as a series. The project was made by director Vaughan Sivell over three years.
Pistorius shot and killed Steenkamp in her home in Pretoria, South Africa, in the early hours of Valentine’s Day 2013. Sivell secured access to key players in the subsequent trial, which saw Pistorius jailed and prompted controversy and worldwide media attention.
A noted Paralympian, Pistorius became the first amputee to compete at the Olympics. His conviction for killing Steenkamp was amended in 2015, from culpable homicide to murder, and his prison sentence extended after scrutiny by South African lawmakers in the wake of the trial. He is currently in prison.
Sivell’s previous documentary work includes a film about boxer Joe Calzaghe.

The real colour in this sometimes stirring documentary profile of Welsh-Italian fighter Joe Calzaghe is provided by his swearing, gung-ho father
Welsh-Italian boxer Joe Calzaghe gets his own – inevitably admiring – documentary profile, recording his humble origins, meteoric rise and career-climaxing bouts against Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones. One of the tiny handful of fighters to emerge with a loss-free ring record, Calzaghe is perhaps less famous than he ought to be (though his Strictly Come Dancing shenanigans, not mentioned here, may have helped in that regard), and this film goes some way to outlining what lay behind his success as a fighter: primarily fast hands, an iron chin and a vicious punch.

Strictly's Daniel O'Donnell has suggested Kristina Rihanoff probably deserved to be paired with "a young sports star" instead of him.
The 53-year-old Irish crooner is partnered up with professional Russian dancer Rihanoff - who is currently dating former partner and ex-rugby player Ben Cohen - but he told The Sun: "It would have been nice for Kristina to get a young sports star.
"She got me, but she seems happy enough."
On Rihanoff's relationship with Cohen - who's still married to his wife of 13 years Abbie - O'Donnell continued: "None of us can help who you fall in love with."
He was, however, keen to assure that it's "strictly dancing" between the pair, and that his wife Majella "was never threatened" by their coupling.
"I think the three of us could be good friends. It is strictly dancing between Kristina and I," he added.

Strictly Come Dancing's Kristina Rihanoff was gutted to be paired with Daniel O'Donnell, according to Craig Revel Horwood.
Speaking to the Daily Star, the judge made reference to Rihanoff's relationships with previous celebrity in past years of the show.
"When she got paired with [O'Donnell], I think she was gutted!" Horwood said. "But it was rather obvious she wasn't going to get a hot, young celeb after everything that has happened.
"It's natural to fall in love with your dance partner when you're spending so much time together, and Kristina's managed a few times! But somehow I don't think that will be the case this time around."
Rihanoff, who dated retired boxer Joe Calzaghe after they were paired up in 2009, recently confirmed that she and ex-rugby player Ben Cohen are in a relationship.
"We are in a committed relationship, and of course, part of that involves love," she said at the time.

Strictly Come Dancing pro Kristina Rihanoff has confirmed that she and former dance partner Ben Cohen are in a relationship, and described it as a "work in progress".
Russian dancer Rihanoff was paired up with ex-rugby player Cohen - who has been married to Abby Cohen since 2003 - during 2013's BBC One ballroom dancing competition.
Speaking to The Sun about their long-rumoured romance, Rihanoff said: "We are in a committed relationship, and of course, part of that involves love.
"We're constantly together - either at my place or his. We're still very new so there's much more left to grow hopefully. It's a work in progress."
But the performer has vehemently denied that she was responsible for Cohen's marriage breakdown, continuing: "Ben's said it many times and I'll say it again - I wasn't involved in the breaking up of his marriage.
"Lots of relationships start because you're attracted to someone.

Espn ringside reporter Chris Lloyd on tonight’s rematch, what Froch can learn from Calzaghe and what to expect from fight night at the O2 Arena.
18,000 seats sold out in less than 4 hours, two world championship belts on the line. Tonight, another incredible piece of boxing history. But great fights are won neither on history nor statistics. They are a snapshot in time – a moment where great fighters are made and broken – replayed over and over so much that we convince ourselves they lasted longer than the instance at which they took place.
For Carl Froch, the memory of his first loss at the hands of Mikkel Kessler 3 years ago was a brief moment in time that he has had on mental replay ever since. The media dissection of those brutal 12 rounds in Herning back in 2010 – the analysis, the interviews and the questions put to the man they call the...

Whether the reward for ingenious use of insider knowledge or just a happy accident, Gavin O’Connor’s mixed martial arts movie Warrior is released with its two leading actors – both in their 30s – in the middle of an almost meteoric rise to stardom.
British actor Tom Hardy has been around for years, with appearances in Black Hawk Down and Layer Cake to his credit, but it wasn’t until his show-stopping performance in 2009′s Bronson (in which he looked nearly unrecognisable as notorious prison hardman Charles Bronson) that he found prominent roles in Inception and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, as well as being on villain duty for Christopher Nolan’s final Batman movie next year – as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

Joe Calzaghe has claimed that the judges comments on Strictly Come Dancing are a form of bullying.
The boxing champion competed on the BBC reality TV series in 2009 and was partnered by his now girlfriend Kristina Rihanoff. He had two left feet and no timing and was regularly criticised by the panel on the weekly Saturday night show.
Hitting out at Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and Alesha Dixon and their treatment of him during his five week stint, Joe told The Daily Mail:
“Strictly was a form of bullying. It’s part of the pantomime and who better to pick on than a world champion? I kept my composure but to me it was destructive criticism, not constructive.
“Len Goodman was great. [He is] the one guy on that panel who actually knows what he’s talking about.”

For years, the videogame community has been pushed aside, making way for the far "greater" social interests such as film and/or television. While we were forced to endure acceptance speech after acceptance speech - from individuals so consumed in their own worlds they had forgotten all about reality - we dreamt of bigger and better things...how things have changed.
The Videogame industry is now one of the most powerful - and profitable - in the world, with more and more companies eager to get in on the action. Conversely, this raise in popularity has seen many of these 'elitist' individuals come crawling back, like an infected arm to its unaffected owner. While the film companies and cinematic production team continue to reel off remake after remake, the videogame industry remains awash with originality, with new ideas as fruitful as they ever were.

I've always been a big fan of these Fight Night games, and it looks like they've once again taken it to a whole new level bloody boxing carnage.
The single-player mode is intended to recreate the dramatic and emotional aspects of the sport.
A new mode called "Champion Mode" will be featured in the game. It revolves around a storyline which follows a boxer named Andre Bishop. Most other modes, such as Legacy Mode (the career mode of the series) are expected to return.
EA is promising a refined physics-based animation system and a new "Full Spectrum Punch Control" scheme. There will also be a demo launching on both Xbox Live and Psn on the 1st of February.
