Cricket Unfiltered notches up a significant milestone next week celebrating its 10 year anniversary on August 21st. The podcast was founded in 2013 by Andrew Menczel (aka Menners) and was the first ever regular weekly cricket podcast in Australia and was a pioneering show for all sports podcasts.
The show started as The Australian Cricket Podcast with hosts Andrew Menczel, James MacSmith and Joe Karsay and then rebranded as 'Cricket Unfiltered' in 2017.
Menners began the show because he felt Aussie cricket podcast fans needed a show about their team because the only cricket podcasts were mainly concerned with the old enemy, England! Menners on starting the show "I went on an English cricket podcast and I thought Aussie fans deserve a podcast! I have always wanted to do a great show for cricket fans and especially fans of the Aussie cricket team".

Sydney, July 1 (Ians) Australian cricket legend Allan Border has revealed he has Parkinson’s disease — a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement — and said that it will be ‘a miracle’ if he lives to 80.
The first player in history to score 11,000 Test runs, Border has revealed he was diagnosed with the disease in 2016 but had been hiding it from the public eye for seven years.
“I walked into the neurosurgeon’s and he said straight up, ‘I’m sorry to tell you but you’ve got Parkinson’s’, ‘Just the way you walked in. Your arms straight down by your side, hanging not swinging.’ He could just tell,” the 68-year-old told Newscorp.
“I’m a pretty private person and I didn’t want people to feel sorry for me sort of thing. Whether people care you don’t know. But I know there’ll come a day when people will notice,...

London, June 29 (Ians) Australia were dealt with a major injury scare on Thursday when premier off-spinner Nathan Lyon limped off the field while fielding during day two of the second Ashes Test against England at Lord’s.
Lyon, who is playing in his 100th consecutive Test, was running in to take a catch of Ben Duckett off the bowling of Cameron Green in the leg-side after tea, when he pulled up sharply while running towards the ball.
The injury looked so serious that Lyon had to go off the field by taking the support of a member of the Australian team medical staff and shook off in pain while clutching the calf region of his right leg.
A statement from Cricket Australia confirmed Lyon has suffered a right calf injury and would be further assessed after the close of day’s two play. “A further update, if available, will be shared in the morning,...

London, June 28 (Ians) After taking the field for the second Test of Ashes 2023 against England at Lord’s, veteran Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon on Wednesday became the first specialist bowler to play 100 consecutive matches in the longest format of the game.
Lyon, who made his Test debut in July 2011, has also become only the sixth player in the history of cricket to feature in 100 consecutive Tests. Other players in the list are Alastair Cook (159), Allan Border (153), Mark Waugh (107), Sunil Gavaskar (106) and Brendon McCullum (101).
Coincidentally, Lyon has achieved this rare landmark at Lord’s, the same venue where he was dropped in the format for the last time. This was almost a decade ago during Australia’s tour of England for the 2013 Ashes series.
“That’s something I’m really proud of. To be able to tick off 100 consecutive Test matches, that’s a proper stat in my head. That’s a lot of Test cricket,...

Birmingham, June 19 (Ians) Legendary Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy believes England pacer Ollie Robinson should have been punished with a fine as he was trying to incite a reaction from left-handed batter Usman Khawaja through a fiery send-off on day three of first Ashes Test at Edgbaston.
Robinson removed Khawaja for 141 on day three’s play on Sunday, knocking back his off stump as he came down the pitch looking to force the ball through the off side. The pacer appeared to swear towards a departing Khawaja during his wicket-taking celebrations.
“It is a lack of class like he’s been criticised for, but that’s ok, it happens in the heat of the moment. I think he should have been punished because it was shown so closely on TV and it does incite retaliation.
If Khawaja retaliated to that and said something back to him, he’d probably get in trouble.

New Delhi, June 13 (Ians) Former captain Allan Border has backed pacer Scott Boland to retain his place in Australian team for the upcoming first Ashes Test against England, starting on Friday and feels that Pat Cummins led side should play the same eleven from the World Test Championship (Wtc) final.
Boland played a key role in Australia bowling out India for 234 on day five of the Wtc Final, including the double scalp of Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja in the second innings to set the base for a 209-run victory. The seamer took five wickets across India’s two innings.
He was selected in the Wtc final playing eleven over Michael Neser with Josh Hazlewood unavailable due to injury.

London, June 4 (Ians) Australia captain Pat Cummins has defended the move of not playing any warm-up matches ahead of the World Test Championship final and Ashes, citing the nature of the hectic schedule, which leaves them with no time for playing practice games.
Australia adopted a no tour match policy since their tour of Pakistan last year, and is being continued for their all-important trip in England which features a Wtc final against India at The Oval from June 7-11 and is quickly followed by the Ashes from June 16-July 31.
“It’s the nature of the schedule. But we feel really good. We’ve had a good prep up in Brisbane for a few days. It’s a pretty busy couple of months coming up and six Tests in two months is really hectic. You’d rather be fresh at the end of it than worn out. We’ve got...

New Delhi, May 29 (Ians) Australia wicket-keeper Alex Carey has said he maintains a close relationship with a host of former keepers and revealed he has spoken to some of those predecessors about what he can expect through the World Test Championship (Wtc) Final and the Ashes series.
Former Australian keeper Adam Gilchrist presented Carey with his Baggy Green when he made his Test debut against England in Brisbane during the Ashes series in 2021.
The left-hander said the Australia great is among a small, but select, group of former keepers he still remains in contact with.
“Adam Gilchrist presented my Baggy Green and is a guy I obviously looked up to when I was a youngster,” Carey told Icc.
He further said adding that he enjoys hearing regularly from the tight-knit group of Australian wicket-keepers.

New Delhi, May 17 (Ians) Former Australian captain Allan Border feels that Jofra Archer being ruled out for England’s entire home summer matches will prove to be a huge blow for the side in a bid to reclaim the Ashes, set to be played from June 16 at Edgbaston.
Archer will be missing The Ashes and the rest of England’s cricketing summer after suffering a recurrence of a stress fracture to his right elbow, which had earlier ruled him out of Mumbai Indians’ campaign in Ipl 2023.
Archer has not played a Test for England since March 2021 and made a comeback to international cricket earlier this year after dealing with elbow and back injuries for nearly two years.
“(Archer) worried our guys in the last series, so he’s a big out for England. It’s good to have that X-factor bowler, who you can bring on know he’s going to upset the opposition,...

New Delhi, March 6 (Ians) Former India batting great Sunil Gavaskar while highlighting the flaws of the Australian selectors has said that instead of pointing fingers at players, the role of the selectors should be questioned.
The ex-cricketers have been extremely critical of the current Australian side for their batting woes. Australia legend Allan Border has lashed out at Steve Smith, who passed a thumbs-up gesture to the bowler after a ball beat his outside edge. While former Australia opener Matthew Hayden also slammed the team for their lackluster show in the opening match of the series.
“While the ex-Australian players on the various media platforms are having a real go at their players, the ones who should be the real targets are the Australian selectors,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

New Delhi, Feb 19 (Ians) Legendary Australian captain Allan Border slammed Australia’s “panicky and frenetic” batting in the second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy and said that he is “shell-shocked” with the result.
Riding on Ravindra Jadeja’s best bowling figures in an inning in Test cricket (7-42) along with Ravichandran Ashwin’s spin masterclass, India defeated Australia by six wickets in the second Test within three days to take a 2-0 lead in the four-match series on Sunday.
“I’m disappointed, I’m shell-shocked, I’m angry about the way we went about our work today,” Border told Fox Cricket.
Australia had been much better in the second Test, scoring a competitive score in the first innings before having India 139/7 on day two. But Axar Patel’s 74 changed the face of the match, leaving the visitors with just a one-run lead in a match.

New Delhi, Jan 15 (Ians) Legendary Australian cricketer Allan Border has lauded Pat Cummins’s performance as skipper, but warned that the next month’s Test series against India will be the “acid test” for him and the Baggy Greens.
Cummins took up Test captaincy following Tim Paine’s sudden resignation ahead of the 2021/22 Ashes series. The pace spearhead had enjoyed a golden run since becoming captain as Australia won the Ashes 4-0 and has since registered series victories over Pakistan, West Indies and South Africa. Cummins’s side also drew 1-1 with Sri Lanka away from home last year.
“That is going to be the acid test for him and the team. The next 12 months is the real test for that side and Pat’s captaincy in particular because India is just about the last frontier for the Australian cricket team,” Border was quoted as saying by ABC Sport.

Brisbane, Dec 15 (Ians) Interim South Africa men’s head coach Malibongwe Maketa has no doubt that the Proteas are heading in the right direction as they build towards the first Test against Australia in Brisbane over the weekend.
The tourists drew their only warm-up fixture — a four-day encounter against a Cricket Australia XI played at The Allan Border Field in Brisbane — with most of their batters enjoying some much-needed time in the middle.
Batting had been an area of concern for the Dean Elgar-led side after their last tour to England earlier when the team struggled for big runs, albeit in difficult batting conditions and lost the series 2-1. Now Maketa is optimistic of their prospects in the first of three Tests starting at The Gabba on Saturday.

Melbourne, Sep 14 (Ians) Even as legendary Australian cricketers, including Allan Border and Greg Chappell have recently demanded the leadership role ban on batting stalwart David Warner be lifted to allow him to captain the national side in ODIs or in the Big Bash League (Bbl), former wicket-keeping great Ian Healy feels it’s not such a great idea.
Three Australian cricketers — the then-skipper Steve Smith, his deputy Warner and Cameron Bancroft — were banned from playing international and domestic cricket for varying periods not exceeding a year in the aftermath of the 2018 ball-tampering scandal during the Test series in South Africa, which came to be known as the ‘sandpaper-gate scandal’.
The episode that happened during the Cape Town Test in 2018, not only prompted CA to ban the trio, but also barred Smith from taking up leadership role for two years, while Warner was banned from any such role for the rest of his professional life.

Sydney, Jan 8 (Ians) Australia's Steve Smith on Friday became the batsman to score the maximum number of hundreds against India in Test cricket.
Smith achieved the feat on the second day of the ongoing third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He played a brilliant knock of 131 before getting run out.
The right-handed batsman has scored eight hundreds in just 25 innings against India that he has played so far.
Gary Sobers (30 innings), Vivian Richards (41 innings) and Ricky Ponting (51 innings) also had scored eight centuries against India.
Smith, currently ranked third in Icc Test rankings, has now scored 27 Test hundreds, equalling Virat Kohli, Graeme Smith and Allan Border.
With his Friday's inning, Smith also ended Australia's near four-year drought of centuries against India. The 31-year-old was, in fact, the last Australian to score a hundred for his country against India back in 2017 when he made 111 in...

Melbourne, Jan 3 (Ians) While reports have emerged that the Indian team is reluctant to play the fourth Test of the ongoing series at the Gabba in Brisbane due to harsher bio-security protocols they will be subjected to there, the Australian team on Sunday confirmed it will go ahead with the schedule even if it means making sacrifices and enduring strict conditions.
The Gabba in Brisbane has been a fortress for Australia, who haven't lost a Test there in 30 years. India have a poor record at the Gabba, losing five of the six Tests they have played while drawing one in 2003 which too was curtailed by rain.

Melbourne, Dec 25 (Ians) After making 2,270 runs at an average of 68.78 with seven hundreds in first class cricket, talented Indian batsman Shubman Gill will finally make his Test debut and there are few bigger stages in international cricket than the Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne on Saturday.

Adelaide, Dec 22 (Ians) Former Australia batsman Michael Hussey believes the Indian team management should support underfire opener Prithvi Shaw and include him in the playing XI for the second Test starting Saturday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Shaw was bowled for a second ball duck in the first innings of the first Test and had his stumps rattled in the second innings at the Adelaide Oval in the pink-ball match which India lost by eight wickets.
"I think that selectors should show some faith in Prithvi Shaw. Yes, he didn't get any runs in this Test match but it's one Test, against some quality bowling of a difficult pitch to bat," Hussey told ESPNcricinfo.
Citing Joe Burns' example, Hussey added: "Joe Burns was averaging less than seven in Fc cricket. The selectors showed faith in him. He got out cheaply in the first innings but he slowly got his confidence back,...

Adelaide, Dec 16 (Ians) India will step into an unknown territory when they play the four-match Test series-opener against Australia with the pink ball under lights at the Adelaide Oval from Thursday.
While Australia are the most experienced side in day-night Tests, having played and won seven matches under lights, four of them at the Adelaide Oval; India played their first and only win late last year against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens. That pink-ball Test came four years after Australia had played their first.
However, India will be inspired by the fact that some of their best performances, especially in recent times, have come in Adelaide including a Test win in the first match during the last tour in 2018-19.
Skipper Virat Kohli on Wednesday told reporters that the day-night Test match is completely opposite to the normal day game played with red ball as the pink ball does little...

Adelaide, Dec 16 (Ians) Team India have picked Prithvi Shaw to open the innings with Mayank Agarwal and Wriddhiman Saha as wicketkeeper-batsman for the first Test against Australia, a pink-ball fixture that begins on Thursday at the Adelaide Oval. Umesh Yadav will be third pacer besides Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.
The Indian team is going in with a batting heavy side for the first Test of the four-match series, with four bowlers including a spinner in Ravichandran Ashwin besides three pace bowlers. They have picked six batsmen.
The decision to pick Shaw goes against the advice of former international skippers like Sunil Gavaskar and Allan Border, both of who had said a couple of days back that the 21-year-old needs to tighten his technique and is lose outside the off-stump. Shaw could aggregate just 42 in four innings across two warm-up games. Shubman Gill, the other option, fared a bit better,...

Adelaide, Dec 16 (Ians) Australia skipper Tim Paine has said that he is in talks with head coach Justin Langer and national selector Trevor Hohns over his future as captain, although his immediate focus remains at the four-match series against India beginning Thursday with a pink-ball fixture at the Adelaide Oval.
The 36-year-old was appointed as Australia's captain after Steve Smith was banned from playing Test cricket for a year and leading Australia for two years following his role in sandpapergate controversy in 2018.
Former Australia skipper Allan Border has backed the return of Smith for captaincy, saying that a series loss to India will force the Aussies to think of removing Paine. Border had also said there are not many options beyond Smith for Australia after Paine.

New Delhi, Dec 15 (Ians) Virat Kohli's absence in the last three Tests of the upcoming four-match series will be a huge boost to Australia considering his record Down Under where he has scored six centuries and three fifties in 12 Tests he has played so far, say Sunil Gavaskar and Allan Border.
"I think it is a huge boost for the Australians, a man who has six hundreds in 12 Tests in Australia. It is a huge boost for Australians not to be bowling to Kohli in the last the three Tests," said Gavaskar during a media interaction.
Kohli will be returning to India after the Adelaide Test (December 17-21) to be with his wife Anushka Sharma who is expecting their first child.
Border concurred with Gavaskar saying that absence of the 32-year-old will leave a huge gap in the Indian line-up.

New Delhi, Dec 15 (Ians) Former Australia skipper Allan Border and current Australia coach Justin Langer have acknowledged the contribution of the Indian Premier League in breaking the ice between the Indian and Australian players and ensuring the game is played in the right spirit.
The two teams will take on each other in the four-Test series beginning Thursday at the Adelaide Oval.
The rivalry was always competitive but there was a clash of cultures earlier, Border acknowledged.
"I think Sunny (Sunil Gavaskar) talked about (in a media article) that there was always a little bit of clash, clash of cultures between Australians and Indians. We play the game a certain way, we are brought up to play the game in an aggressive manner. We use swear words a lot in our natural conversation without meaning anything by it. New Delhi, Dec 15 (Ians) Former Australia captain Allan Border says he has softened his stance on Steve Smith and feels that the 32-year-old was treated harshly for his role in the Sandpapergate controversy.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in a virtual press conference, Border talked of his initial reservations about Smith.
"Yes that will be a discussion (Smith getting captaincy if Australia lose). I must admit I have softened a bit on my stance on Steve Smith and his future captaincy. Initially I thought my concern was would you want to revisit all that stuff rehashed if Steve Smith is made captain of Australia? You have to go through sandpapergate and all the discussion by the media, should he, shouldn't he be the captain again. Do you need that? (People said) Let Steve Smith play and score the amount of runs he does," Border said.

New Delhi, Dec 15 (Ians) Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has blamed batsmen committing themselves to front-foot, 'the front-press' as the reason behind many of them getting hit on the head and suffering concussions.
"I think it is more to do with the fact that everybody have got their front-press where technically they are moving forward and it becomes a little bit difficult," Gavaskar told reporters.
"When English players used to come to Australia they would struggle as well because they were on the front-foot. In Australia you want to ride the bounce, to get on to the back-foot so you are able to ride the bounce which is not what a lot of players are not doing today. They are so much on the front-foot and not able to transfer their weight and get out of their way. As a batsman you tend to get a little bit locked," he added.

New Delhi, Dec 15 (Ians) Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar picked Mayank Agarwal and Marnus Labuschagne as the players to watch out for from the Indian and Australian camps respectively in the forthcoming four-Test series, saying that the Indian opening batsman showed his teammates the way to tackle off-spinner Nathan Lyon during the 2018-19 series.
Gavaskar's one-time rival and the man who broke his record for most Test runs, Allan Border picked pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah and Cameron Green as players who will light up the series.
"For me the player to watch out for would be Mayank Agarwal, because he came to Australia for the last couple of Test matches two years ago and showed the way. Till then India had not got any start but he batted brilliantly. He actually showed (the Indian batsmen) how to tackle Nathan Lyon because he was stepping down the pitch lofting him straight,...

New Delhi, Dec 15 (Ians) Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar and former Australia skipper Allan Border have backed Shubman Gill to open the Indian innings in the first Test against Australia at Adelaide as an opener ahead of Prithvi Shaw, who they feel is loose outside the off-stump and plays too many shots.
While Shaw failed to get a fifty, aggregating 62 in four innings at an average of 15.5 in the two warm-up games over the last week, Gill made 127 at 31.75 with a 65 in those games.
Speaking to the media in a virtual conference, Border said, "I have been in Sydney the last couple of days watching your boys run around against Australia A. Gee, I was impressed with Gill. I really think he has got something about him. His technique. I know he is young, he can plays some rash shots, but gee he looks a seriously good player, this kid.

Sydney, Dec 13 (Ians) Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who captained Australia A during their second warm-up match against India ahead of the Test series between Australia and India, said that he would "love" having a chat with former captain Allan Border, who tore into the team and Carey's captaincy during the second day of the match.
"Absolutely, I love talking to the greats that have been in Australian cricket and picking their brain. One of Australia's best captains and players, I would love to have a chat with Ab," Carey is quoted as saying by 'The Sydney Morning Herald' after the third day's play.
"I guess, personally being out there, the attitude wasn't bad. We were trying. We had difficult situations with our bowlers, as I mentioned, making sure they got the right overs in. It was difficult out there with two set batters, and Rishabh (Pant) slogging it the way he did.

New Delhi, Oct 8 (Ians) Even as Cricket Australia (CA) is yet to officially announce the dates for India's tour of Australia that begins next month, controversy has flared up. It is not just the broadcasters Seven West Media, the owner of Channel 7, who are crying foul over the tentative schedule that the Australian board has prepared.
Former Australia cricketer Allan Border too has criticised Cricket Australia for bending over backwards and accommodating the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (Bcci) demand to reschedule the series, the Sydney Test in particular.
The Sydney Test, usually known as the New Year's Test, begins in the first week of January or January 3 or 4 to be precise but has been pushed back to January 7 in the new schedule.
