The Santa Barbara International Film Festival has unveiled its 2015 line-up which includes films representing 54 countries, 23 world premieres and 53 U.S. premieres. The U.S. premiere of Niki Caro’s McFarland USA will close out the 30th fest. Based on the 1987 true story and starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello, the film follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. The unlikely band of runners overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well.
The festival runs from January 27-February 7.

A self-acknowledged "showcase for Academy Award frontrunners," the Santa Barbara International Film Festival is often overlooked for the actual films that earn it festival status. Thanks to the success of Savage Cinema in the 61st edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival, this new section launched in collaboration with Red Bull Media House is shaping up to be the international reference in the exhibition of adventure and action sports films.
Last year’s Savage Cinema saw the screening of six world or European film premieres , which had a huge public success thanks to their exciting and original images and stories. A top notch selection of works with feats from the snowboard, surf, ski or rock climbing worlds, thrilled film lovers and action sports aficionados alike.
A crucial factors in the incredible success of this new section is the support of the filmmakers, producers and athletes who presented their films and enjoyed the Festival atmosphere, turning the event into a meeting place between the universes of film, sports and adventure. World champions like David Lama (who climbed one of the edges of the Kursaal Centre) and Stephanie Gilmore (surfing), surfers such as Dave Rastovich and Chris del Moro, directors like Andrew Kidman, David Zieff, Murray Wais, Thomas Dirnhofer and Dave Mossop, or the producer Martha Mitchell were some of the professional guests who shared with us this first adventure.
Savage Cinema launches now its second edition with the goal of raising last years show to an even higher level in and outside the movie theaters. Films on subjects related to action sports, adventure and the outdoors, in any genre, produced in the last year and wishing to participate in the 62nd San Sebastian Festival can be submitted online until July 16.
The 62nd San Sebastian Film Festival will take from September 19-27 2014...
