It’s hard to imagine Vixen as a member of the DC Universe for over 35 years now, an early victim of the DC Implosion before arriving as a guest-star in Action Comics. She’s been a constant presence if not a major one, but was exactly in the range of secondary characters ripe for development for television since her powers were not entirely special effects-laden.
Interestingly, she was brought to The CW through their CW Seed website, a way to expand the Arrowverse with original content. In 2015, there were six short animated episodes that performed well enough that a second season arrived last October. The dozen episodes have now been edited into a 78-minute feature, Vixen the Movie, out now from Warner Home Entertainment.
The series is only kinda sort of close to the source material as we learn of Mari Jiwe McCabe’s (Megalyn Echikunwoke) upbringing in the African land of Zambesi,...

The newly integrated DC Animated Universe expands with its latest offering, Batman: Bad Blood. While Batman (Jason O’Mara) can work best as a loner, he casts a long enough shadow that somehow involves others to take up the mantle of the Bat. We’ve seen Nightwing (Sean Maher), the former first Robin, and the addition of Bruce Wayne’s son Damian (Stuart Allan) as the new Robin has added an edge.
The new animated film, out now from Warner Home Entertainment, has been sold as the major introduction of Batwoman (Yvonne Strahovski) but we also get Batwing (Gaius Charles) and at the end a cameo from Batgirl. As a result, it’s actually beginning to feel a little too busy with so many players there’s not enough time to properly service them.
The premise here has Talia (Morena Baccarin) recruiting a bunch of disparate rogues to help her break Batman.

As directed, indirectly, by Eic Mike Gold earlier this week, I’m here to report back on my experiences last week at the illustrious New York Comic Con. Let’s cut to the chase… It sucked.
Now, that’s an over simplification with a massive asterisk by it, hence I’ve got a bit of mental baggage to unpack here. Luckily that means my column this week will be more than three sentences long. Or maybe that’s unlucky, in case you’re forced to read my column every week. And in that case… Fly, you fools!
The basic gist you need to understand is this: my anecdotal feelings about a show are trumped by the data. In that respect I’m a Moneyball kind of comic book creator. Each show for me and my Unshaven cohorts is a collection of potential sales opportunities. Beyond anything else, I personally derive...

In 2012, Dr. Travis Langley took us inside the minds of Gotham's protectors and tormentors in Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight. Now, along with a team of expert contributors, Dr. Langley examines the mental effects of the zombie apocalypse in The Walking Dead Psychology: Psych of the Living Dead. At Comic-Con, Daily Dead caught up with Dr. Langley, who discussed further exploring the survivors of Robert Kirkman's living dead world, his upcoming book Star Wars Psychology: Dark Side of the Mind, and much more.
Dr. Langley on his longtime love of The Walking Dead:
Dr. Travis Langley: I've always been a fan of The Walking Dead from the very first issue. You can go back and find issues—I think it's #11, #13 and #17—and go to the letter column, you'll find letters by me where I was analyzing the stuff back then. I've always been analyzing it.

Yesterday, news broke that Daniel Brühl's character in Captain America: Civil War would be Baron Zemo. Having only a cursory knowledge of the character, I read a lot of long wiki posts to try to learn more about him. Thanks to the team at THINKAboutTheINK and host Alan Kistler, there is now a much quicker and concise way to become familiar with Baron Zemo in all his many incarnations.

(Cbr) To celebrate Dynamite's tenth anniversary, publisher Nick Barrucci and Senior Editor Joseph Rybrandt brought Quentin Tarantino to Comic-Con International in San Diego to discuss the upcoming "Django/Zorro" crossover, along with co-writers Reginald Hudlin and Matt Wagner. Alan Kistler was on hand to moderate, though with these panelists the dialogue sailed on its own. With the panelists taking the stage one by one, Tarantino took to the stage with tremendous applause. "We're very fortunate that we're able to do the first sequel of a Tarantino film as a comic first," Barrucci said. "We've put out a lot of great comics from a lot of great creators," Barrucci said of Dynamite's ten years, "and we couldn't do it without you readers." Kistler began by asking who approached who about the project. "The person to thank is Nick Barrrucci," Hudlin said. "As Django was about to come out, Nick called me and said,...

Sundays at San Diego Comic-Con are known for family-friendly fare, but this year there's plenty to keep horror fans sticking around like "Supernatural," "The Strain," and "The Following" (all presenting their wares in the hallowed Hall H).
Along with that trio of horror TV panels, there's plenty more on tap for Day 4 of the 2014 Sdcc, especially if you're a comic lover (you know, those things that started the event in the first place), plus the annual presentation of "Buffy the Musical: Once More with Feeling" to close things out.
Check out the highlights below, and be sure to visit the official San Diego Comic-Con website for the full lineup.

With Sdcc 2013 kicking off soon, Preview Night details and the full schedule for Day 1 have arrived. We have some tough decisions to make as The Walking Dead comics take on "The X-Files" reunion and then the "Dexter," "Hannibal," and "Teen Wolf" panels go head-to-head.
Per usual, the abovementioned choices are just the tip of the iceberg for genre fans with panels running all day and evening on July 18th for paranormal novels, sexy steampunkers, horror gaming, horror novels, horror comics, horror journalists (including our own Heather Wixson!), composers, the ever present and popular zombies, The Goon feature film, and - in the last panel of the night - horror sitcom "Holliston." Check out our picks below, and be sure to visit the official San Diego Comic-Con 2013 website for the full lineup.

The Season 3 premiere of "Game of Thrones" is only days away, but it's not too late to plan a delicious feast for the event. Food is a big part of the world of "A Song of Ice and Fire," and it's always nice to tie that part of the series into the TV show even if there isn't a major meal in every episode.
In honor of the Season 3 premiere, "Valar Dohaeris," airing on March 31, Zap2it spoke to two experts in the "Game of Thrones" food community. In lieu of speaking to "ASoIaF" author George R.R. Martin himself, we asked "The Unofficial Game of Thrones Cookbook" author Alan Kistler and "A Feast of Ice and Fire: The Official Game of Thrones Companion Cookbook" co-author Chelsea Monroe-Cassel for their help putting together a foolproof guide to planning a "Game of Thrones" premiere feast:
Plan ahead
Do or do not, there is no try.

Greetings, past-dwellers. Tis I, Marc Alan Fishman, the sage of the future! I traveled here to the past, via my patented DC Direct TimeSphere. It was only $299.99 at my local comic retailer (which in the future is just Amazon Prime…)! I come to you, this random Saturday morning, on a mission from ComicMix 8.0. I’ve come to give you hope that in 2013, everything changes. Hold on to your bow ties, time lords. Let me give you the glimpse of what will become of your industry.
In 2013, the rumblings began. You see every time a creator got uppity in the past, they dropped those immortal words: “Creator-owned is the future, man.” And every time those creations (not of Marvel or DC, mind you) became one with the zeitgeist, the word revolution spread across the artist alleys of convention floors like a plague. Ah, I know. I know. You say “but that means nothing,...

Casting announcements are flying fast and furiously on the Marvel Studios front, so there's very little time to get this one in: someone's going to play the Enchantress in "Thor 2." Kevin Feige has teased that a "major new villain" will step onto the scene when next we see Asgard, and even with Mads Mikkelsen already in the picture, smart money has long been down on Enchantress as the next baddie to put Thor through hell and back.
For those not in the know, Amora the Enchantress is easily one of Thor's most notable nemeses in comic book lore. Mind control is the leading name of her game, with her powers largely used towards charming her victims into doing her bidding — not unlike Loki in a lot of ways. It's a juicy part for any number of actresses, and we've got our own wish list of leading ladies to tackle the (admittedly hypothetical) role.

Chicago – You can tell when a property has reached beyond mere fad to true phenomenon based on the amount of related merchandising, official and otherwise. There have been a growing number of products related to the hit HBO show (and beloved George R.R. Martin books) “Game of Thrones,” including shirts, mugs, and even an upcoming video game. And while Lionsgate has to hire people to count their money from the third highest opening of all time for Gary Ross’ “The Hunger Games,” those who adore Katniss, Peeta, and the rest of the gang from Suzanne Collins’ hit series are probably looking for a way to continue the fun at home without starting their own battle royales. Let us introduce you to two of the more unique tie-ins — “The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook” and “The Unofficial Game of Thrones Cookbook.”

In case you’ve been at a con, under a rock, or recently kicking your 5-a-day Fabergé Egg habit… the brothers Warner and Mr. David E. Now that we've taken a look back at the year – and boy oh boy, was that an interesting year – we can now look over the rainbow at what's coming down the pike. Intelligent theories meet best guesses with a dash of wild-eyed visions; crystal ball, there's so many things I gotta know... what's coming in the New Year?
We've seen what the growth figures have been like for electronic reading, and now we can say there is no sign of slowing down. An estimated 70 different types of e-readers are expected to be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show later this month, and rumors have it that Apple is looking to purchase 65 million screens for iPads in the coming year, where book reading platforms are in the top 5 and two comics reading apps are in the top 20.
With the departure of Paul Levitz, Karen Berger is now the longest serving editorial employee at DC.

How do time-travelers celebrate their birthdays? Apparently, they commemorate the occasion with a trip down memory lane... and a look toward the future.
As noted by BBC America this morning, it was 47 years ago today that the long-running British science-fiction series "Doctor Who" premiered, and there's been no shortage of online applause from the network and various "Doctor Who" fans (including yours truly) throughout the day. However, it wasn't all backward-looking celebration, as BBC America unveiled a new image from the upcoming "Doctor Who" Christmas Special that airs December 25.
While the new photo puts current "Doctor Who" star Matt Smith front and center, BBC Archives also turned a spotlight on many of the other talented actors who have filled the role over the years, as well as their co-stars.
First up was a look at the initial pitch for "Doctor Who," circa 1963, that offers the first peek at what would...

For decades, the question has been asked... is it sane to spend millions of dollars and obsessively micro-manage your life to go out and beat up muggers dressed as a giant bat with a young boy following you around? Well, in the return of Crazy Sexy Geeks, comic book historian Alan Kistler discusses the mental state of Batman with three forensic psychiatrists, the founders of Broadcast Thought.

We headed to Times Square to see what moviegoers have to say about the 'Community' actor playing Peter Parker.

Earlier this week, a fan campaign to cast "Community" actor Donald Glover as the star of the upcoming "Spider-Man" movie had the online world buzzing, with creators and fans alike weighing in on the idea of casting an African-American actor as the new Peter Parker.
Earlier Wednesday (June 2), MTV News spoke to comic book historian Alan Kistler to get his take on the heated debate raging around the Twitterverse — a discussion that became one of the hottest topics on Twitter this weekend and resulted in a Facebook fan group more than 8,000 members strong at last count. "There is nothing in the comic or the origin of the character that has to do with what ethnicity [Peter Parker] is, the color of his skin or his background,...

Yesterday, we reported on some comic creators' reactions to the recent fan campaign to cast "Community" actor Donald Glover as Spider-Man.
Initiated by a post on io9 titled "The last thing Spider-Man should be is another white guy," the campaign kicked into high gear when a reader dropped the name of Glover, a 27-year-old black actor, in the comment section. The actor subsequently echoed the suggestion on Twitter and encouraged fans to make it a reality. Glover even created a Photoshopped image of himself as Spidey and started a Twitter hashtag for the campaign: #donald4spiderman.
The rest, as they say, is online history. The hashtag became a top trend on Twitter and the resulting Facebook group has attracted more than 8000 members at last count.
The public debate, however, has crossed the entire love-hate spectrum, with various arguments for and against the actor in the role, including much buzz about...

Tony Stark has lots of enemies — not only because he’s a wealthy, international industrialist, but also because he’s the armored Avenger known as Iron Man. He’s clashed with amoral businessman Justin Hammer, espionage experts like The Ghost and Spymaster, and even the warlord known as The Mandarin.
But not every villain that’s attacked ol’ Shellhead has been all that threatening. With that in mind, the arrival of "Iron Man 2" in theaters this week had us thinking about some of Iron Man’s lamest enemies.
Here are five enemies we're pretty sure won't be facing off against Tony Stark's armored alter ego on the big screen any time soon.
The Chessmen: Obadiah Stane was a sinister, manipulative villain who stole Tony Stark’s company and later attempted to steal the secrets of Iron Man by creating his own “Iron Monger” armor (as seen in the first...

Debuting on the interwebs just a few days ago (in case ya' didn't catch it, partner), the trailer for DC's western wild-man, Jonah Hex, made it's dusty digital debut. And dag-nabbit, if it ain't a big ole pile of predictable horse puckey! After you give that link a lil' ole' click and watch the trailer for yourself, maybe you bounce right back here for our analysis of why it done got our britches in a bind!
First off, let's just git this outta the way. Castin' John Malkovich as yer' villain these days is as inspired a choice as castin' Matthew McConaughey in a romantic comedy. I mean, does Malkovich even get a script for pictures like this anymore, or does the director yell action, and just let him do that whole slow-quiet-evil-talking thing he does in every other movie he's in?
Past that, how about we talk about Mr.

Editor's Note: The following guest column was provided by comic book historian Alan Kistler, who never ceases to amaze us with his knowledge of all things comics. In order to determine the victor in in his "Last Man Standing" scenario, he painstakingly compared each combatant's powers, how they would interact with other combatants' powers, and each character's equipment, history and tendencies. Basically, he spent a lot more time thinking about this than you will spend reading it — so we hope you enjoy it!
The drinks have been served. The music is on. But this St. Patrick’s Day is different. This day, we find out which Irish superhero (or superhero of Irish heritage) will be the last man standing!
Molly Fitzgerald (a.k.a. Shamrock) steps into the battlefield. Born in Dunshaughlin, Molly is able to call on the spirits of innocent people who died in war and terrorist attacks.

The new film "Sherlock Holmes," starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law, has been entertaining many. And today, January 6th, is Holmes' actual birthday (as established in the original books).
Even after his creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stopped writing fiction, Sherlock Holmes continued to appear in new stories for several decades, in all sorts of media. And sometimes he's been teamed up with other famous characters, fictional creations with their own worlds and fans. Here are some of the wilder crossovers featuring England's greatest detective.
Sherlock Holmes v. Dracula
The title may seem silly, but "Sherlock Holmes Vs Dracula" by Loren D. Estleman is a fantastic story that takes place parallel to the original "Dracula" novel by Bram Stoker. Remember how Stoker's book was made up of journal entries, letters and newspaper articles? Here, we see Holmes and Watson investigating those same news stories, leading them...

Super hero costumes are often criticized by fans and non-fans alike. In particular, the female costumes can sometimes seem a bit too revealing or impractical. Even Wonder Woman is occasionally given guff and there are those who say that if they ever made a new movie with her, her swimsuit-like battle armor would have to go.
So we of Crazy Sexy Geeks: The Series decided to ask people: Should Wonder Woman wear pants? Are the shorts or skirt too impractical?
Join us as we discuss and debate this issue with every day comic fans, professional artist Gene Ha (Top Ten, Global Frequency), fashion consultant Tim Gunn, actress Miracle Laurie (Dollhouse), actress/writer Emma Caulfield (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Contropussy.com), digital painter Alayna Lemmer, and the American Gladiators known as Phoenix and Venom. That's tons of pretty girls talking about the ultimate female super hero! What Are You Waiting For?...

There are many reasons why Plastic Man has endured as a comic character starting with the imaginativeness of Jack Cole’s stories. He was the first elastic hero. The first hero who started life as a criminal only to reform when he inherited his powers. He was also one of the few truly amusing animated series from the 1970s.
The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show snuck in at the end of the decade, lasting two seasons from 1979-1981, and was a fun offering from Ruby-Spears. The 35 solo Plastic Man adventures have been collected by Warner Home Video in a four disc set, now available.
While Plastic Man: The Complete Collection is the title, it’s not entirely accurate since the Comedy/Adventure Show featured segments dedicated to Baby Plas, Plastic Family, Might Many & Yukk, Fangface and Fangpuss, and Rickety Rocket and none are collected here.

In the second episode of Crazy Sexy Geeks, our new weekly series meant for both die-hard fans and people new to comics, hosts Alan Kistler and Carrie Wright head to Barnes & Noble and then Midtown Comics for a two-pronged celebration.
It's been 70 years since Marvel Mystery Comics #1 came out in 1939, featuring the Sub-Mariner and the original android Human Torch. Since then, hundreds of heroes and villains have been brought to the world through the pages of Marvel comic books.
At a Q&A panel at Barnes & Noble, fans got to speak with Joe Quesada, Klaus Janson, Fred Van Lente, Greg Pak and Chris Claremont. The gang gave some advice on artists and writers trying to make a career out of their hobbies and also spoke about recent projects such as Magneto: Testament, X-Men Forever and attempts to create a new Avengers ongoing cartoon series.

For years, people have enjoyed the adventures of the G.I. Joe team, a counter-terrorist unit made up of people from all military branches. In the comics, the Joes have repeatedly encountered the alien warriors known as the Transformers, leading to some fun crossover stories.
Now that G.I. Joe has returned -- as a multi-national organization, of course -- to the spotlight with the new film "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and brand new comics from Idw, I got to wondering what other fun crossovers could occur with this new team. So in the same vein of my list of "Transformers" crossovers, here are some fun team-ups that I think would be entertaining for everyone.

So your parents loved Robert Downey, Jr. in Iron Man but don't think comics themselves have anything to offer? Your friends loved V for Vendetta and The Dark Knight and are curious to read comics now but aren't sure where to start? This is the show to help them all out.
Starring yours truly and New York actor Jose Ramos, "Crazy Sexy Geeks" is meant to help new people get into comics while also entertaining those already initiated. Each week we will discuss topics such as openly gay super-heroes, why there don't seem to be many women super-heroes outside of comics, whether remakes are better than sequels, and other fun topics that anyone with a smidgeon of pop culture knowledge can enjoy.
This is not your typical comic book video blog where two or three guys sit in a basement or at a friend's house and just review what came out this week.
