When Colin Farrell was cast as Oswald Cobblepot, The Penguin, in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, many fans were skeptical as they did not know what to expect from the interpretation. Farrell definitely did not look the part, but the costume design crew did an amazing job and Farrell delivered a brilliant villain who was so good that HBO ordered a standalone spin-off series focusing on The Penguin. The series, which will be titled The Penguin, is set to be released later this year and we have just today received some interesting casting rumors!
Namely, we know that Farrell is reprising his role and that the series will focus on Penguin taking over Gotham’s criminal underworld after the death of Carmine Falcone (played by John Turturro in the film) at the hands of the Riddler.

We didn't initially pay a huge amount of attention to rumours that Mark Strong had been cast in The Penguin in a mystery role, but his trainer has now let the cat bat out of the bag in a series of Instagram posts.
Giacomo Farci was asked if it's true he worked on The Batman follow-up, promoting him to reply, "Yes, I've trained Mark for it." Asked if he could reveal who the Shazam! star is playing, Farci said, "I cannot answer to this question but I'm sure you will figure it out."
Needless to say, we're guessing he won't be reprising his role as the villainous Doctor Sivana, a villain whose story ended on a largely unsatisfying note thanks to an unresolved cliffhanger in both the first movie and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
So, who has Strong been cast as in The Penguin?

Last week, Max finally released the trailer for their much-anticipated The Batman spin-off series, The Penguin, teeing up its fall release date. Overall, it looks highly reminiscent of Matt Reeves’ film, with the cinematography very much in the Grieg Fraser mode. But what else do we know about The Penguin? More than you may think.
The Penguin is set after The Batman.
The plot of The Penguin is set to follow the title character, once again portrayed by Colin Farrell, as he rises through the ranks of the Gotham City criminal underworld. After the events of The Batman and the flooding of Gotham, including the death of Carmine Falcone, Cobblepot desperately wants to fill the power vacuum. Colin Farrell has also indicated that the film will serve as an origin story for the Penguin, something we have seen twice on screen before in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, played by Danny DeVito.

Say what you will of the Netflix era of "Black Mirror," but there's at least one episode everyone agrees is pretty great. "USS Callister," the season 4 premiere centered around a guy who reveals his ugly side in his own personal VR video game, is a clear fan favorite. What made it so good? Well, there's the way it gives us the usual final act twist surprisingly early on, revealing that it's Nanette (Cristin Milioti) who's our actual, far-more-likeable protagonist. Then there's the way the episode's main setting, a "Star Trek"-inspired virtual reality world that the characters are left to explore, leads to so many more storytelling opportunities ahead of them. (That's why the news that the episode's getting a sequel shouldn't be too surprising.)
But the main appeal of "USS Callister" is just how emotionally resonant its main plot point is. Seemingly nice guy Robert Daly is gradually revealed...

Due to arrive this year, The Penguin, Warner’s TV spin-off from The Batman, is “incredibly violent” and “twisted” says title star Colin Farrell.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman wasn’t exactly sunshine and rainbows, so it follows that its upcoming spin-off series, simply called The Penguin, will be similarly dark.
In fact, if we’re interpreting recent quotes from title star Colin Farrell correctly, the series could be even more withering and nightmarish than the movie. Talking to MovieZine (via Deadline), Farrell said that filming had wrapped on the series a couple of weeks ago, and that “It’s dark… really dark.”
It’s really heavy, I think, it certainly was doing it,” he said. “Which is not to say I didn’t have fun, I had an amazing time doing it, but it’s incredibly violent.”

Before Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” opened in theaters in March 2022, there was a lot of discussion online surrounding the movie’s rating. Many comic book fans were hoping to get the first Dark Knight movie with an R rating, but the film earned a PG-13 nonetheless. The universe of “The Batman” is expanding with the upcoming Max series “The Penguin,” starring Colin Farrell as Gotham City gangster Oswald Cobblepot. The latest trailer for The Penguin sees Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot, alias Penguin. While The Joker may be the most iconic and memorable comic book antagonist in the world today, the depiction of Oswald Cobblepot in the 2022 masterpiece The Batman by Collin Farrell pushed the character’s popularity to the next level.
Thus, seeing just how revered the character became with his introduction in the film, Warner Bros. decided that he deserved his spin-off series to further explore him.

And thankfully this time, the star was granted his wish to smoke cigars on set and screen for The Penguin, something that the star wasn’t allowed to do when he was working with filmmaker Matt Reeves on the movie since WB had a no-smoking policy in place.
The reason why Farrell wanted to smoke was to bring his character closer to the comic-accurate recreation of Cobblepot, who is always seen with a cigar in his mouth.

“When I was a kid, there was a gangster, real old school type,” recalls Oswald Cobblepot at the start of the trailer for The Penguin. Anyone who has seen a gangster flick before recognizes that kind of talk. Henry Hill, Tony Soprano, Michael Corleone — wiseguys love to wax poetic about the past.
It’s no secret that the classic Batman villain was a highlight of 2021’s The Batman, with director Matt Reeves taking a more grounded approach to the bird-themed character that removed the bright colors and gimmicks. The Penguin’s storyline in the movie focused on his rise through the mob and his spinoff series will continue that tale of ascendance, as Cobblepot works to fill the void in the Gotham underworld left in the wake of Carmine Falcone’s death.
But the Penguin isn’t the only mobster from the comics who will appear or be referenced on this gangster show.

The sequel to the 2022 superhero hit “The Batman” may have been pushed to 2026, but fans of Matt Reeves’ take on Gotham City will have “The Penguin” to tide them over later this year.
On Friday, Max released a new trailer for the DC Studios limited series starring Colin Farrell as mobster Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin. Farrell’s Penguin was a supporting character in “The Batman” (and one of its best parts), but he gets center stage here as he tries to grab power in Gotham’s underworld after the death of his boss, Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), in “The Batman.”
With Farrell again unrecognizable under layers of prosthetic makeup, Cobb tells a story about Rex Calabrese, a gangster who ran his neighborhood when he was a kid. Calabrese earned people’s respect by helping them out, and when he died, the neighborhood threw a parade in his honor. “Can you imagine,...

The Penguin is ready to take the big seat. Colin Farrell is back as The Penguin in the new trailer for his Max series, which spins out of the world of the 2022 DC film The Batman.
In the events of the film, The Penguin served as a lieutenant to crime boss Carmine Falcone, who meets an untimely end. Now, The Penguin is stepping up to lead crime in Gotham City in a series that looks like DC’s answer to The Sopranos.
The series hails from DC Studios, the Warner Bros. division run by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are plotting out their own shared universe of movies and TV shows. Colin Farrell returns to Gotham City as Oz Cobb, aka Oswald Cobblepot, in the trailer for “The Penguin,” a spinoff series of “The Batman” coming this fall to Max.
“The Penguin” takes place immediately following the events of DC’s 2022 blockbuster, tracing Cobblepot’s rise to power in the Gotham underworld as he becomes one of the most prominent villains in the “Batman” universe. Farrell gives a classic gangster monologue throughout the trailer, which slowly ramps up the violence and gunfights in Gotham City’s seedy underground.
“When I was a kid, there was a gangster, real old-school type. Rex Calabrese. He was a big deal. He helped people. He saw you on the street, he’d call out to you,” Cobblepot narrates in the trailer. “When I was 14 or something, he has a heart attack and dies, still holding a cigar. In my neighborhood, they throw a parade in his honor.

The sci-fi dystopia series is arguably one of the most critically acclaimed anthologies in television history. And Netflix has recently announced that the show is coming back with its newest season.

Season seven of Netflix’s critically acclaimed anthology series Black Mirror will make a return trip to the world of the USS Callister. The popular Star Trek-inspired season four episode starred Jesse Plemons as Capt. Robert Daly, Cristin Milioti as Nanette Cole, Jimmi Simpson as Walton, Michaela Coel as Shania, and Billy Magnussen as Valdack.
“Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning,” teases Netflix.
Production is currently underway on the seventh season, with the streamer targeting a 2025 premiere. Series creator Charlie Brooker returns as writer and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jones.
Season seven will consist of six new episodes, including the USS Callister sequel. Brooker’s keeping episode details – including casts and storylines – for the other five episodes under wraps for now.

There is good news for fans of Charlie Brooker's dark, satirical anthology series Black Mirror. Check out the sizzle teaser for the season below…
This being Brooker and Black Mirror, there are naturally very few details to be gleaned at this point. All we really know about the seventh season is that it'll have six standalone episodes and shooting is already underway.
The only episode confirmed is, as mentioned above, a follow-up to popular Season 4 entry USS Callister. The original starred Jesse Plemons, Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson, Michaela Coel and Billy Magnussen in the story of Robert Daly (Plemons), a genius, egotistical game company guru who gets frustrated at a perceived lack of recognition. Charlie Brooker’s beloved sci-fi anthology Black Mirror has never been particularly urgent when it comes to producing new seasons. Since Netflix acquired the series after its first two seasons aired on Channel 4, fresh dispatches from Brooker’s dystopian universe have arrived on an irregular basis. In fact, the wait between season 5 and the most recent season 6 was a staggering (and Covid-assisted) four years. It looks like that’s all about to change, however.
Just nine months after the aforementioned Black Mirror season 6 premiered, Netflix has announced Black Mirror season 7. Not only that, but the seventh season is going to break ground for the franchise in one major way. Check out the official teaser below to see if you spot what we’re referring to:
