Post Malone’s country streak is still going strong. On Wednesday night, the musician took the stage at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville for a surprise performance during radio and television personality Bobby Bones’ annual Million Dollar Show concert. His contribution to the country-centric set was an acoustic cover of Hank Williams’ 1952 record “Honky Tonk Blues.”
“Well, I left my home down on the rural route / I told my paw I’m going steppin’ out / And get the honky-tonk blues,” Malone sang, strumming the song on guitar. His appearance rounded...

Bones transformed the space into a truly romantic setting that was filled with candles, rugs and greenery. He even had a surprise musical guest. "After she said yes, our song 'Nothing Left to Lose' by Mat Kearney was playing outside. And it was @matkearney playing it,"...

As many iTunes lovers and Youtube fanatics understand, music (old and new) has become a huge factor on hit television shows and both the show and artists featured benefit from the collaboration. Ever YouTube a certain scene from your favorite show for hours on end? Did it have a catchy song that you immediately downloaded? Yes, the odds are that you have.
Television show soundtracks are an obsession over here and the music played make that specific scene that much more memorable. Grey's Anatomy and Shonda Rimes have featured fantastic music at Seattle Grace and continue to do so. Matching the right songs for a medical show may seem hard, but it comes off natural and easy for the series. This can definitely be seen in memorable scenes using The Fray's "How To Save A Life" and Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars."

Looks like at least one flight crew figured out what passengers need to spice up their flights on Southwest Airlines. On the season finale of "On the Fly" (Thu., 9 p.m Et on TLC) singer-songwriter Mat Kearney was on the airplane, and the flight attendants convinced him to give his fellow passengers a little impromptu show.
Kearney was game, and so serenaded the capacity crowd with his single "Hey Mama," though on a flight from Chicago to Los Angeles he could have tried out most of his concert set. The artist was headed to Los Angeles to kick off his tour.
According to his official website, Kearney will be kicking off he newest leg of his tour in Charlotte, Nc on July 26, and will be hitting venues nationwide through September. It's maybe not as intimate as an unexpected concert in the sky, but it's still guaranteed to be entertaining.

Parenthood 3.11 "Missing" Review
Even though "Missing" is only Parenthood's midseason finale, there was a distinct feeling of finality about the episode, as if this is the point when everything and everybody turns a corner. Season three of Parenthood has been predicated on the concept of new beginnings, so it makes sense to continue each character's quest for self-discovery.
And continue they did, as storyline after storyline was closed in last night's episode, to varying degrees of success. Of those that were finished in "Missing", the most successful was Crosby and Jasmine, whose one night together in last week's episode opened up some serious emotional wounds from last season. I noted in my last review that I was cautiously optimistic about the two's continually complicated co-parenting, but their storyline in "Missing" felt real, messy, and raw, the type of material that Parenthood excels at. Crosby finally understands that it's over between them and you know what?...

Mat Kearney’s new album, “Young Love,” is available now and this time around he approached song writing a little differently. For example, with his current hit single, “Hey Mama,” he started it out with claps, stomps while dancing around his room, singing the hook. Sounds pretty simple, huh? Well we surely think so because the inspiration behind “Hey Mama,” as well as Mat’s giddiness was none other than his wife whom he met at a clothing store. Mat got hitched earlier this year and believe it or not, his wife wasn’t interested in Mat at first…it actually took a little coaxing. The funny part of the story was that she didn’t even know who Mat was until a month into dating and that was quite charming to him. In the end, he got the girl! According to Mat, “Young Love” is inspired by a lot...

The Throne will get a royal reception on the Billboard 200 albums charts next week. Watch the Throne, the superstar hookup between Kanye West and Jay-z, sold more than 436,000 copies in its first week, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, putting up the second-biggest debut sales week of the year so far, behind Lady Gaga's Born This Way, which moved 1.1 million.
Thanks to a three-day iTunes exclusive that launched last Monday (August 8-10), the pair also reportedly broke the record for the biggest iTunes debut ever, selling almost 290,000 digital copies, enough to beat out former record-holder Coldplay's Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, which sold 282,000 copies in 2008. According to Billboard, with 321,000 total downloads, Throne is second only to Born This Way (662,000) for the biggest digital week ever.

Adele is making it look like the good-old days when people actually bought music. The "Rolling in the Deep" star is on the precipice of crossing the 3 million sold mark, easily regaining her familiar position by flip-flopping with last week's top dog, country singer Eric Church's Chief, which lost 63 percent of its business as sales slid down to 53,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
Fellow country singer Trace Adkins is just behind, debuting at #3 with Proud to Be Here (47,000), with singer/songwriter Mat Kearney's Young Love in at #4 (44,000) and...

Allen Nation should stay calm, because fans might see those songs sooner than they'd think. "Maybe I'll make a little Ep, iTunes thing," he suggested. "It'll be sick."
Speaking of missing acoustic songs, Allen his cut collaboration with singer/songwriter Mat Kearney,...

'You can tell that it's my story, and I like that,' 'American Idol' alum says of songs he's writing for his second LP.

Landing in the "American Idol" finale gets you a lot of things: a new car, instant name recognition, the opportunity to work with the industry's top producers and songwriters on your debut album. (If you're Kris Allen, you also score a hideous, pointless trophy.)
What you don't get, however, is time. Somehow in the midst of doing press for the show and going on a massive tour, you're expected to put out a high-profile album in just a few exhausting months.
Season-seven runner-up David Archuleta survived the first year of post-"Idol" craziness, and while he's pleased with how his debut self-titled 2008 album turned out, he's making sure the music on his next pop...

'American Idol' winner debuts three new songs at Miami Dolphins tailgate concert

Just a few days after "American Idol" winner Kris Allen tweeted that he finished his self-titled major-label debut (and misses Nickelodeon's "Doug," by the way), the full track listing for the November 17 album has been revealed.
While the debut had many musical cooks, according to the track listing obtained by Entertainment Weekly, it appears that songs co-written by fellow "Idol" alum Chris Daughtry, as well as those with singer/songwriter Mat Kearney, did not make the cut.

Kearney had previously told MTV News that the tune he was working on with Allen would rough up the squeaky-clean Conway, Arkansas, native's image. "It's driving ... it has some edge to it," Kearney said earlier this month.

"American Idol" winner Kris Allen is nearing the completion of his top-secret major label debut (which still doesn't have a title), but a new demo popped up over the weekend that might shed some light on the kind of material he has vetted.
Jc Chasez (of 'Nsync and "Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew" fame) wrote and recorded a song called "Build Some Love" for consideration for Allen's debut CD. The tune, which was posted on a Jc Chasez fan site yesterday, is a tender ballad that would fit very nicely on a OneRepublic setlist. The gist is that Jc (or Kris Allen, I suppose) is in love with an emotionally reserved girl, but his loving is so magical, he's able to tear down her wall and "build some love." Epic, right? [Crickets.]
I mention OneRepublic because everything about the tune reminds me of a track Ryan Tedder would churn out.

Since winning "American Idol" in May, Kris Allen has been putting together his major-label (still untitled) debut, set to hit stores on November 17. And although he's worked with a slew of A-list talent, there have also been rumblings that people close to the singer think the album is "a mess."
But in a new interview with EW.com, Allen says those rumors aren't true.
"I actually heard about that," he said. "The way I heard was I was following Rickey.org on Twitter, and I guess he had said something about it. And I was like, 'I don't know why anyone would say that or where anyone would get that news.' Because the way we feel about things is that everything's going great."

You might not know his face yet, but if you've turned on a television at any point in the past three years, there's a good chance you've heard a Mat Kearney song. His dreamy, heartfelt rock is the go-to choice for shows like "Grey's Anatomy," "One Tree Hill" and "The Closer." In fact, even Lauren Conrad has been known to stare longingly into space while Mat's tunes blare on "Laguna Beach" and "The Hills."
But it's "Grey's Anatomy" that has been the most consistent Kearney supporter since his Columbia debut hit stores in 2006. And Mat couldn't be happier, even if the show's use of his songs is occasionally ... odd.
"I'm watching ['Grey's Anatomy'], and there's this big logging-accident operation," the singer/songwriter recalled. "And then my song ['Crashing Down'] comes in!

The JFK assassination, scientology, Justin Bieber's real age ... few things are as hush-hush as the details surrounding an "American Idol" alum's first album. But Kris Allen collaborator Mat Kearney dropped a few hints about the top-secret song he co-wrote with the "Idol" winner over the summer.
During a recent chat with MTV News, Kearney had nothing but positive things to say about working with Allen. And of the song itself, the singer/songwriter promised, "It's pretty cool. It wasn't, like, your typical ['Idol'] cheesy thing."
When pressed for details about the track, Kearney deadpanned, "I pictured everyone in a bowling rink. That's where the story takes place," before making it obvious he was just joking. "We don't say anything about bowling [in the song]. I don't know why I think that."

New York — Mat Kearney's songs have been featured everywhere from "Grey's Anatomy" to a Bruce Springsteen-helmed charity CD. The next place the singer/songwriter hopes to hear his work is the major-label debut of "American Idol" winner Kris Allen.
Kearney teamed up with Kris in early August to write a top-secret tune and is very pleased with the results. "We wrote a song and it's awesome," Kearney boasted to MTV News while he was in NYC for a tour stop.
Amid a flurry of the usual "Idol" collaborators (Ryan Tedder, Claude Kelly), Allen surprised many when he announced that he was also working with Kearney. The Nashville-based singer/songwriter was just as surprised. "I think [Kris] was just a fan," Kearney said of how they ended up collaborating.

Following this week's episode of The Vampire Diaries, we can't say enough good things about Ian Somerhalder as Damon.
That will be evident below, as our staff gathers for its weekly Round Table discussion of the series. What did we like best about "Night of the Comet?" Where does it all go from here? Let's get right to it...
Will Ian Somerhalder win an Emmy Award?
VDLover: Haha, it may be early to ask that question, but I was blown away by his performance this week. He makes Damon creepy, funny and intense, all at once. Not an easy balance to achieve.
DoMeDamon: Somerhalder really does walk a fine, perfect line in his portrayal. If he were too light-hearted, no one could take his evil side seriously; if he were full of rage at all times, it would take away from the times when he really goes off (like with...

Eminem's Relapse
Photo: Interscope Records
Guess who's back? As if there were any question of whether Eminem could dominate the charts again after a near four-year absence, the rapper's return-to-form, Relapse, will crush the competition next week to take the #1 spot on the Billboard 200, thanks to the highest first-week bow of the year so far at 608,000.
How big was it? Even with seven other albums making their debuts in the top 10, Slim Shady sold nearly as many albums as the rest of the top 10 combined. According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, last week's #1, Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown, dropped down a spot on sales of 166,000. Breakdown, the "Hannah Montana" soundtrack (#7, 58,000) and Lady Gaga's Fame (#8, 45,000) are the only holdovers from last week.

Mat Kearney became a virtual overnight sensation three years ago with "Nothing Left to Lose," the title track from his Aware/Columbia Records debut, proved so sticky that VH1 played the video for 45 consecutive weeks. Tours with Sheryl Crow, John Mayer and the Fray followed for the Nashville-based singer/songwriter. His second album, "City of Black & White," comes out May 19. Written all over the world, including on a ferry on the Bosphorus River, the disc speaks to finding your place in the world, no matter where you may roam. Fittingly, Kearney spoke to Hitfix from his Nashville home the...
