Art the Clown is fast-becoming a new slasher icon. Though he's yet to star in a truly massive box office hit, his blood-drenched exploits in "Terrifier 2" went a long way towards building his reputation as the slasher killer of the modern age. Damien Leone, the creator of the franchise and director of the first two installments, has made a name for himself by going further than any Hollywood horror and depicting scenes of such utter depravity that audiences have reportedly struggled not to pass out.
2016's "Terrifier" went largely unnoticed, but is infamous among some horror fans for a scene in which one victim is strung upside down and essentially, shall we say, divided in two in a particularly unfortunate manner. "Terrifier 2" then arrived in 2022 with just as much, if not more ultra-violence, and proved to be almost too brutal for even seasoned horror fans. Despite the film's astonishing level of abject savagery,...

Popcorn buckets are all the rage right now with several sparking controversy, including this gem for Dune: Part Two. Studios continue to push the envelope with rumors that the bucket for Deadpool & Wolverine will be nothing short of “intentionally crude and lewd,” teased Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. But what about horror?
Horror fans hope to see a Terrifier popcorn bucket available in theaters nationwide when Terrifier 3 releases this fall. Over the weekend, a hardcore fan launched a petition to raise awareness for a potential Terrifier 3 popcorn bucket. I immediately fantasized about eating pink popcorn out of Art the Clown’s head.
What would you want to see out of a Terrifier popcorn bucket? Damien Leone and Phil Falcone’s third film is Christmas-themed so I’m sure there’s no shortage of cool ideas.

Just a few days ago, we learned that Rob Zombie regular / prolific character actor Daniel Roebuck had joined the cast of Terrifier 3, taking on the role of Santa Claus – and now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have confirmed that production on the film, which started filming back in February, has officially wrapped! After their report, writer/director Damien Leone took to social media to share his thoughts on the production now that it’s all over.

Daniel Roebuck has racked up over 250 credits over the course of a career that has lasted nearly 40 years so far, and our friends at Bloody Disgusting have just broken the news that one of his next credits will be on writer/director Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3, which is set to receive a theatrical release on October 25th. According to the site, Roebuck will be appearing in the film as Santa Claus. It seems fitting, because Roebuck was already in Santa mode for a family-friendly movie called Saint Nick of Bethlehem, which he co-wrote and co-directed. That movie will be released later this year as well.
Roebuck provided the following statement: “I’ve been holding this secret for a long time! I’ve been really excited about it. I’m actually entering into the movies that I watch. It’s extraordinary. This is Terrifier bigger, badder, best.“

Writer/director Damien Leone had a budget of around $55,000 to work with on his breakout horror film Terrifier, and a budget of “a little over” $250,000 for Terrifier 2, which was a massive hit when it was released last year, earning $15.1 million at the box office. The release of the second film went so well, it’s no surprise to hear (via Variety) that the companies behind these movies – Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting – are re-teaming with the distribution banner Iconic Events Releasing for the theatrical release of Terrifier 3 on October 25th. While Variety was reporting on the theatrical distribution, the film’s star Lauren Lavera was taking to social media to share a picture that was taken of her on the set of Terrifier 3. Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting are reteaming with Iconic Events Releasing as the theatrical distribution partner for Terrifier 3 from filmmakers Damien Leone and Phil Falcone.

Art the Clown will be back for Halloween this fall, with some help from Iconic Events Releasing. The distribution banner has partnered with Cineverse and its horror division Bloody Disgusting to handle theatrical distribution on “Terrifier 3,” the next entry in the ongoing cult horror series.
Announced at CinemaCon Tuesday morning, the partnership between the companies marks a continuation from “Terrifier 2,” which Iconic Events distributed theatrically in 2022. That feature earned more than $15 million at the global box office, marking a huge return on its scrappy $250,000 production budget.

How brutal does a film need to be for horror aficionado Mike Flanagan to invent a new "MegaSlasher" genre to describe it? As brutal as "Terrifier 2." The 2022 "MegaSlasher" (a term basically indistinguishable from the "splatter" genre) was director Damien Leone's sequel to his low-budget 2016 "Terrifier," and took the violence to extreme levels in order to differentiate itself from the standard Hollywood slasher fare. As Leone said during a 2022 Q&a, "We have to show the audience things that [Hollywood] would never have the balls to show.'"
It's a tactic that worked, with the film proving too brutal for some horror fans and making headlines with reports of viewers fainting and vomiting during screenings. "Terrifier 2" scared up big wins at the box office, too, making $15.7 million on a $250,000 budget. Not bad at all, especially for a film that contains some of the most sickening on-screen violence you'll ever see.

Filming has been underway for the last several weeks on Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3, the next installment in one of the most popular new horror franchises of the modern era.

For more than 40 years now, moviegoers have lined up to see the spectacle of people being slaughtered by a psycho with a chainsaw, a psycho in a Halloween mask, a psycho in a goalie mask, a psycho with burnt skin and a striped shirt and fedora, or a psycho with S&m nails in his face. So why not a psycho Winnie the Pooh?
“Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” raised a few hackles — otherwise known as free publicity — for having the scuzzy temerity to take a couple of beloved children’s characters and place them at the center of a slasher film. Yet the stunt concept was about all there was to it. The movie, made on a budget of $50,000, was too logy and inept to be a real scandal, or any sort of theatrical sleeper hit. What made you want to get involved in the film industry? I have always loved movies, since I can remember. When I was a kid I thought I wanted to be an actor but I eventually found that I enjoyed writing more so I pursued that. After having a couple of scripts produced I decided to take it to the next step and started directing. Filmmaking is definitely something I’ve always been passionate about.
From script–to–screen, how close did Horny Teenagers Must Die! come to its original vision? Pretty close. There were some issues we ran into during production that forced some changes. One scene was completely cut from the script due to the loss of a location, and a couple scenes were added after the initial shoot in order to help with some character development. Overall though, the final movie is probably 85% as it was written.

In the wake of Terrifier‘s breakout success, star Jenna Kanell has gone on to book supporting roles in the likes of Renfield, WandaVision, The Bye Bye Man, and NCIS: New Orleans — but Art the Clown casts a long shadow. Kanell reconciles her unconventional journey while holding a mirror up to the industry in Faceless After Dark, which she co-wrote with Todd Jacobs for director Raymond Wood, both frequent collaborators.
Kanell stars as Bowie Davidson, an actress struggling to break out from the shackles of B-horror after starring in a killer clown movie. She’s no stranger to fandom — peddling herself at conventions, recording Cameo videos, combating social media harassment — but when an obsessive fanatic in a clown mask breaks into her house, Bowie assumes the role of the final girl to fight back against her oppressors.

Netflix viewers are an unpredictable bunch. One minute they'll lap up a truly abject Michael Fassbender thriller, the next they'll propel the excellent "Dredd" into the Netflix Top 10. The only logical conclusion to all this is that in the age of streaming, we'll pretty much watch anything as our senses are slowly dulled by a never ending supply of "content." Still, we might as well be mildly entertained as we drift towards this bland hellscape of mediocre streaming films and AI-written movies, and this week, Netflix has provided.
This time, Fassbender is nowhere in sight. Instead, we've got "X" causing a minor stir on the Netflix charts. A24 and Ti West's 2022 effort is a slick and stunning original slasher which actually enjoyed a good critical response upon release. 94% on Rotten Tomatoes ain't bad, after all. While you might not expect a film about an elderly woman who lays waste...

Director Damien Leone has established a new slasher mainstay with his "Terrifier" series. After taking his Art the Clown character, who'd previously appeared in several short films, and putting him at the center of 2016's "Terrifier," the director followed up that lackluster effort with 2021's "Terrifier 2" — a movie too brutal for some horror fans. While "Terrifier" had been, in the words of /Film's Chris Evangelista, "crap," the sequel had more narrative and lore-building. As such, it amounted to not only a surprise box office hit, but a markedly better movie.
After the release of "Terrifier 2," audiences — many of which reportedly fainted at screenings — were excited to see more of Art, the bloodthirsty harlequin who had started to gain some pop cultural recognition. His nightmarish visage could be seen cropping up in "Bupkis" cameos and generally seemed to be transcending the niche horror genre from which he came.

Writer/director Damien Leone had a budget of around $55,000 to work with on the first Terrifier movie, and a budget of “a little over” $250,000 for Terrifier 2 – which was a massive hit when it was released last year, earning $15.1 million at the box office. Since the second film did so well, Terrifier 3 (which is scheduled to reach theatres on October 25, 2024) has a substantially higher budget. A “couple million” is going into this one, which is set to start filming around the beginning of February. Leone recently confirmed to Deadline that Chris Jericho, who made a cameo as a psychiatric hospital attendant in Terrifier 2, is going to be returning for the new sequel – and now, while talking to MovieWeb, Jericho said he won’t be in the movie for very long.
Leone told Deadline, “(Chris Jericho) is super excited. This one is going to pick up where part two left off,...

The Jester opens as John walks alone at night. A figure in a top hat and orange suit, the Jester appears and disappears behind him.
A young girl appears in an alley and again in front of him. He calls the now grown girl, his daughter Emma who is not happy to hear from him. The Jester confronts him and as John pleads for his life conjures up a noose and, using his tie to control it, hangs him.
At his funeral, we find out he has another daughter Jocelyn (Delaney White; Pooling Evidence) who he had after walking out on Emma and her mother. The Jester also puts in an appearance much to the dismay of a pair of gravediggers.

"Terrifier 2" might have been a surprise hit in 2022, proving too brutal for even some seasoned horror fans. But you'd never have expected such success based on the original movie. Released in 2016, "Terrifier" took director Damien Leone's psychotic slasher Art the Clown, previously the star of several short films, and built a whole movie around his gory exploits. Sadly, the result was less than impressive. As /Film's Chris Evangelista put it in his "Terrifier 2" review:
"The first "Terrifier" is what I'd call 'crap' [...] While I freely admit the film is loaded with some incredibly practical gore, the movie itself is little more than a plotless, storyless, valueless excuse to showcase that gore and not much else."
Luckily, Leone stepped up his game for "Terrifier 2," as evidenced by the much improved critical response, the $15 million it made on a $250,000 budget, and the fact we'll soon be getting the highly-anticipated "Terrifier 3.

Terrifier 3 is going to have a budget several times that of Terrifier 2 – and a UK cinema release has been confirmed too.
A day or two back, we got the confirmation of a fresh sequel to a film with very low budget roots. That’d be Saw XI, that’s landing in cinemas next September. However, what promises to be an even more profitable venture is just a few weeks behind it.
That’d be Terrifier 3, the horror franchise that puts a vicious, murdering clown at its heart. The second film in particular was made for a fraction over $200,000, and ended up scaling the US box office chart. The $15m box office take might not be Marvel levels, but it’s a return that independent horror films very rarely get to see. And the franchise is clearly on an upwards trajectory too.
Terrifier 3 thus promises to be even bigger.

Creator/director of the "Terrifier" series, Damien Leone originally developed Art the Clown as one of many ghoulish antagonists for the short films "The 9th Circle" (2008) and "Terrifier" (2011). The blood-thirsty antagonist, who was inspired by iconic horror killers, then took center stage in 2013's "All Hallows' Eve," wherein two kids and their babysitter discover an unmarked VHS tape that showcased the homicidal clown's gruesome deeds. But it wasn't until 2016 that David Howard Thornton took over the role from the original Art actor, Mike Gianelli, for the first official "Terrifier" movie.
In the film, Art wreaks havoc on Halloween night as he hunts down Tara Heyes (Jenna Kanell) and her sister Victoria (Samantha Scaffidi). Before he became known as the sicko behind the "Terrifier" franchise, writer, director, and editor, Damien Leone was just a 12-year-old kid studying documentaries about the "Thriller" music video and legendary makeup artist Tom Savini. As Leone told Dread Central, "Those two VHSes were the first time I ever saw makeup artists creating monsters and zombies." He says he watched the behind-the-scenes footage around age eight, and was teaching himself to emulate them by age 12. Decades later, he ended up responsible for the makeup behind one of the creepiest monster designs in recent horror history: Art the Clown.

"Terrifier" is the little slasher series that could. Writer-director Damien Leone harnessed decades of horror movie history to imbue his low-budget breakout with not just heaps of blood and uber-violence, but a subversive sense of whimsy as well. As a result, "Terrifier" remains one of this century's most successful indie horror titles. Its sequel, "Terrifier 2," carved out a success story all its own. In October 2022, that second installment pulled more than $10 million at the domestic box office. For reference, "Terrifier 2" is a two-and-a-half hour long gorefest. That's no chump change for what's arguably the bloodiest slasher movie of the decade.
It all goes back to the original, however, and without "Terrifier," there would be no franchise (including the upcoming Christmas-themed "Terrifier 3"). Damien Leone first conceived of Art the Clown for the 2008 short "The 9th Circle." Art would later appear in one additional short and two anthology segments...

Last year, Damien Leone’s “Terrifier 2” stunned the film industry by being a micro-budget, unrated horror film that actually made millions at the box office in a very small theatrical run. This is a film that is a sequel to a movie that only hit streaming and was little more than a cult hit. But after “Terrifier 2” and its box office success, Leone’s horror franchise is one of the hottest things going.

Art the Clown is moving from Halloween to Christmas horror in the first trailer for “Terrifier 3.”
David Howard Thornton’s diabolical mime will return with more gore in the third installment of the clown-centered horror series. Created and directed by Damien Leone, the franchise features the unsettlingly silent clown as the perpetrator of some seriously gruesome killings. The “Terrifier 3” trailer first debuted in theaters after special screenings of 2022’s “Terrifier 2.”
The second film in the horror franchise saw fierce teenager Sienna Shaw (Lauren Lavera) going to battle with Art. Although Sienna managed to decapitate the clown, the ending revealed that it wasn’t the last audiences would see of him, as Victoria Heyes (Samantha Scaffidi), the only survivor of the first film’s Halloween massacre, gave birth to Art’s decapitated living head in a mental institution.
In anticipation of the third film, “Terrifier 2” expanded more on the mythology of Art.

Art the Clown just doesn't let up. A lot of filmmakers have attempted to create a new horror icon for the next generation, and most have failed rather miserably. "Terrifier" director and special effects artist Damien Leone has managed to usher in a fresh wave of blood and terror with his creation, Art the Clown. The enormously successful sequel, "Terrifier 2," was designed and crafted from the ground up with a ragtag FX team, where most of the gloriously gory set pieces were done almost exclusively by Leone and producer Phil Falcone. To achieve the amount of viscera needed to send even the most hardcore gorehounds heading for the aisle, there were some very special ingredients involved to ensure the maximum amount of gross-out potential.
Throughout horror history, there have been countless recipes for blood that have been used, including but not limited to Hershey's Chocolate Syrup flowing down the drain in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" and...

"Terrifier 2" caused a stir in 2022 for reportedly making audience members vomit and faint at screenings. But there was more to the success of director Damien Leone's $250,000 indie horror than sensationalist headlines. "Terrifier 2" was memorable for David Howard Thornton's committed performance as Art the Clown, a seemingly invulnerable manifestation of evil who embarks on a Halloween massacre. Thornton had played the character in 2016's "Terrifier," but with the sequel becoming as successful as it did, Art was cemented as perhaps the first original slasher character to make any kind of significant cultural impact since Ghostface.
Of course, it helped that "Terrifier 2" was even bigger, weirder, and bloodier than the original, delivering 138 minutes of unadulterated brutality while still presenting a more fully realized plot than its predecessor. According to horror director extraordinaire Mike Flanagan, "Terrifier 2" was worthy of the designation "MegaSlasher" for the way in which...

Bloody Disgusting has just released the official trailer for Terrifier 3, the upcoming horror sequel to the surprise box office hit, Terrifier 2. As you can see from the poster below, Art the Clown’s Christmas slay promises to be ultra-violent, perhaps making this the next great Christmas horror movie?
The film, which was teased when Terrifier 2 was re-released to theatres, will hit theaters on October 25, 2024. According to an announcement from Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting, the threequel will see Art the Clown “unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.” Franchise creator Damien Leone will return to write and direct Terrifier 3, but this time with a much larger budget said to be in the seven figures and a wide theatrical release.
Related Terrifier 3 will be gory and depraved, but shorter and less mystical than part 2
