Sometimes movies surprise you. A cliché, I know, but bear with me a moment. Take a look at the DVD cover of How To Make Love To A Woman. Would you pick this up from a shelf filled to the brim with hundreds of other, possibly better films? I mean, the cover has the American Pie lettering and the cast striking and fronting with cheesy expressions that scream “we’re an ensemble cast for a raunchy comedy.” Actor Eugene Byrd in particular gets the worst of it, not only the lone black man on the cover but also saddled with a self-satisfied, too-cool pose.
The secret is that the film inside, written by Dennis Kao and directed by Scott Culver, doesn’t portend to be more than yet another comedy released in the aftermath of the Apatow crew's assault on Hollywood; a comedy that’s equal parts raunchy and romantic.

NEW YORK -- Josh Meyers, Krysten Ritter andIan Somerhalder are about to learn How to Make Love to a Woman -- with a little help from porn star Jenna Jameson.
In Scott Culver's indie romantic comedy, Meyers plays a music executive with no idea how to satisfy his girlfriend (Ritter). He turns to advice from his musician pals as well as Jameson (who plays herself) but finds that time is running out when her handsome childhood friend (Somerhalder) appears. Eugene Byrd (8 Mile) plays Meyers' character's best friend.
Newcomer Lindsay Richards also stars in the film, which features appearances by members of the bands Yellowcard, the Red Jumpsuit and Apparatus, Hellogoodbye.
Adam Lawson and Sheri Bryant are producing music video director Culver's feature debut through their I Lied About Everything Pictures shingle. Dennis Kao wrote the script. Make Love is shooting in Los Angeles.
Mad TV alum Meyers is repped by UTA and Principato/Young Management. Ritter (the upcoming Confessions of a Shopaholic) is repped by Innovative, the Group Entertainment and Sanders/Armstrong/Caserta Management.
