As buyers touch down at Lax for the annual LA Screenings, it will be a case of a return to the norm following the unusual circumstances of last year. The Hollywood labor strikes not only threw confusion on what would be a realistic purchase, but also stopped acquisitions executives getting face time (and a quick selfie) with acting and writing talent — something many value as part of their buying process.
There will be no such issues this year, and the studio sales bosses are relishing a return to the norm. “We’re really excited, it feels like we’re really back after the strikes and firing on all cylinders,” says David Decker, President of Content Sales for Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd). “We have an abundance of titles that run the gamut of broadcast and streaming in drama and comedy. We’ll be showing the best of what Wbd stands for.

Best Drama Supporting Actress is the only Emmy acting category “The Morning Show” has yet to crack, but it’s now the one the series could dominate like only one other show has managed to. Nicole Beharie, Greta Lee, Julianna Margulies, Karen Pittman and Holland Taylor are all eligible for the Apple TV+ drama in the category this year, and if they all make the cut, “The Morning Show” will join “The White Lotus: Sicily” as the only shows to nab five drama supporting actress nominations in a single year.
“The White Lotus: Sicily” set the record last year with bids for Meghann Fahy, Sabrina Impacciatore, Aubrey Plaza, Simona Tabasco and eventual champ Jennifer Coolidge. Before that, the record for a series in the category was four nominees in one year, which only two shows had been able to field: “Game of Thrones” in 2019 and “The Handmaid’s Tale” in 2021.

Scott Speedman has won over Grey's Anatomy fans with his performance as Dr. Nick Marsh.
But he might soon be facing much gorier medical emergencies in a new and very different role.
Variety reported today that Speedman has been cast in a lead role on the upcoming Peacock horror series Teacup.
The show is based on a beloved novel by Robert McCammon that's not for the faint of heart.
While the book takes place in Texas, the series follows “a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive.”
Speedman will be playing the role of James Chenoweth, alongside Yvonne Strahovski, who will star as his wife, Maggie Chenoweth.
Teacup comes courtesy of Atomic Monsters, the production company founded by James Wan, the director responsible for the Saw and Conjuring franchises.
So yeah, squeamish Grey's fans might want to skip this one.

Just over a year ago, the Peacock streaming service announced they were teaming up with genre filmmaker James Wan for a series adaptation of the 1988 bestseller Stinger, written by Robert R. McCammon (pick up a copy Here) – and even at the time, it was clear that they wouldn’t be keeping the Stinger title, because the show was being referred to as the Untitled Ian McCulloch Project, since Yellowstone consulting producer Ian McCulloch was on board to write and executive produce the show. The project is now going by the title Teacup, and not only has Peacock given it a straight-to-series order (allowing it to bypass the usual pilot process), but Deadline reports that Yvonne Strahovski, whose credits include Chuck, The Predator, The Handmaid’s Tale, Stateless, Dexter, The Tomorrow War, and He’s Out There, has signed on to play the series regular role of Maggie Chenoweth. Strahovski will also be a producer on the show.

We’re learning more about the upcoming sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
The final chapter of the Emmy-winning Hulu series originally was to begin production in 2023 for a fall 2024 premiere, but that schedule, of course, was delayed by the strikes. In an interview with Deadline, Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich, who oversees content for Hulu Originals, said the sixth season now is set to begin production this summer for premiere in 2025. The series was renewed for its sixth and final season in September 2022, just ahead of its Season 5 premiere.
Season 5 follows June (Elisabeth Moss) in the aftermath of Commander Waterford’s (Joseph Fiennes) murder and the consequences she must face for her role in the gruesome slaying. At a minimum, she will have to face off with his widow Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), and on some level Gilead. But mainly, she will be forced to redefine her identity and purpose,...

If you’ve read this month’s preview earlier this week, you already know there are two very different wide releases this weekend. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
First up, there’s the new Matthew Vaughn spy action-comedy “Argylle,” based on a recently released book by one Elly Conway, presumed to be a pseudonym for another famous author, who sold the rights to Vaughn to make this movie even before the book’s release just a few weeks back.

Don’t get us wrong, the Australia-set NCIS: Sydney, premiering Stateside this Tuesday on CBS, boasts a terrific cast, and one that is 66% Australian (plus two Brits).

That's the question we've been asking ourselves ever since the conclusion of The Handmaid's Tale Season 5.
Below, we've rounded up everything we know about The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 -- the hit drama's final season.
The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Renewal Status
Hulu announced the series would wrap with The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 in September 2022.
"It's been a very, very, very luxurious time that I've had to think about what happens at the end of this story and exactly how we'd like to get there as a company," creator, showrunner and executive producer Bruce Miller The Hollywood Reporter of the news.
"I'm very glad we're being able to do it on our own terms because I know how lucky that makes us — all the actors and creative people who put their hearts and souls into it — to close up the play the way you want.

During a recent Gold Derby video interview, contributing editor Luca Giliberti spoke in-depth with Yvonne Strahovski (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) about Season 5 of her Hulu dystopian drama, which is eligible at the 2023 Emmys. Watch the full video above and read the complete interview transcript below.
In the most recent season of the Emmy-winning show, which aired last fall, Strahovski’s character Serena Joy Waterford learns that her husband, Fred (Joseph Fiennes), has been murdered by a group of former handmaids, including June (Elisabeth Moss). The pregnant widow then must team up with the person she hates the most, as Serena and June find they have more in common than they ever would have guessed.

Ann Dowd is looking to make an Emmys comeback with perhaps her most complex take on Aunt Lydia yet in the most recent season of Hulu’s awards-favorite “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
Based on Margaret Atwood‘s book of the same name, the show follows a dystopian future wherein a totalitarian society named Gilead has taken power and women are forced into child-bearing slavery. The series features Elisabeth Moss in the lead role while there are plenty of excellent supporting players including Yvonne Strahovski, Alexis Bledel, Samira Wiley, and the fearsome Dowd.
Dowd plays the brutal, iron-willed Aunt Lydia, who is one of the staunchest believers in Gilead and who will go to any means necessary to keep the women she is in charge of in place. She is violent, brutish, and terrifying to behold as she commands the screen and everyone around her. In season five, however, cracks begin to...

The Handmaid’s Tale traveled outside the confines of Gilead for much of season five, expanding the story of June Osborne, played by Elisabeth Moss, after her escape from the totalitarian society at the center of the Hulu series. The first two episodes, in fact, picked up in Canada in the 24 hours after the show’s most violent act yet, when June led her fellow handmaid’s in the brutal murder of her former abuser, Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes).
And those episodes, both directed by Moss, kicked off the tone of the entire penultimate season, explain cinematographer Nicola Daley, costume designer Leslie Kavanagh and composer Adam Taylor in a THR Presents panel, powered by Vision Media. Particularly when the double-episode premiere ended with June’s abducted daughter Hannah (Jordana Blake) being used as a pawn by June’s Gilead nemesis Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) during the worldwide broadcast of Fred’s funeral.

TV academy favorite Bradley Whitford could be in for another return to the Emmys as the veteran actor hunts down his ninth total Emmy bid and his fourth overall for “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
This acclaimed series, which has won a whopping 15 Emmys so far, depicts a dystopian future wherein a second American Civil War led to the creation of Gilead — a totalitarian society where women are forced to be handmaids, which is essentially child-bearing slavery. Season five took the bleak drama into new depths as Elisabeth Moss‘ June faces the consequences of murdering Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) in the season four finale. Meanwhile, Yvonne Strahovski‘s Serena faces her own problems in Canada as Gilead begins to grow and Commander Lawrence tries to reform Gilead.
Lawrence is played by the inimitable Whitford, who shines in all seven of the episodes he appears in throughout this season. As Lawrence, Whitford is...

By the time the fifth season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” rolls around, Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) is already in dire straits. Still stuck in a detention facility in Canada, she has lost most of her allies, as well as her power and status in Gilead. But it’s after she learns that her husband, Fred (Joseph Fiennes), has been murdered that her world truly comes crashing down, as she’s left to fend for herself and her unborn child, in a foreign country and with the lingering fear that her former handmaid June (Elisabeth Moss) — who, alongside a group of other erstwhile handmaids, is responsible for Fred’s murder — could come for her next. While the grieving, desperate widow summons June to the battlefield in an act of retaliation, her main goal going forward, Strahovski argues, is to keep her head above water.

After cutting two episodes helmed by Elisabeth Moss — including the actor’s directorial debut, “The Crossing” — in the fourth season of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Wendy Hallam Martin collaborated with the series star once again in the Hulu drama’s fifth installment. Of the four episodes the Emmy-winning editor cut this season, Moss directed three, including the opening two hours, “Morning” and “Ballet.” While Martin did her fair share of preparation ahead of the fifth season to ensure she could draw viewers back into the intense situation on which the fourth one had left off, it is Moss’ vision, she highlights, that ultimately set the tone for the premiere.
“[Moss] comes on and absolutely kills it and has a vision herself,” Martin tells Gold Derby during a recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). “I mean, I watch all my dailies, from top to bottom, and her vision is very apparent in her footage.

Joseph Fiennes made an impression on TV viewers as Gilead’s nefarious Commander Fred Waterford on “The Handmaid’s Tale”, and he’s now playing an even more villainous role in “The Mother”, an upcoming Netflix movie starring Jennifer Lopez as a former assassin who is forced out of retirement when the life of her daughter is threatened.
In a recent interview with Et Canada’s Morgan Hoffman, the “Shakespeare in Love” star admitted he’d like to take on a less-evil role at some point.

The Commanders of the Faithful will probably rule over Gilead for quite a while still, but “The Handmaid’s Tale” may not do the same over one specific Emmy category: Best Drama Supporting Actress.
The dystopian Hulu drama has produced a total of 10 citations in the category, including at least one for each of its first four seasons: two for Ann Dowd — who won — and Samira Wiley for the first season; three for Alexis Bledel, Dowd and Yvonne Strahovski for the second; one for Wiley for the third; and four for Madeline Brewer, Dowd, Strahovski and Wiley for the fourth.
Of these nominated cast members, all except for Bledel — who exited the show ahead of the fifth season — are eligible in the category again this year, but none are in the top eight in our drama supporting actress odds at this moment. Secret Agents. We love them. What’s not to love? They go to exotic locations, seduce beautiful women, use insanely cool gadgets, drive awesome cars, and just kick ass. I don’t know about you, but I wanted to be one when I was growing up. But the thought of doing a push-up at the time was as hard as skydiving. So I grew up, and the closest I ever got was asking for a vodka martini shaken, not stirred, at a bar once….which I immediately spit out on the floor. So yeah, I was never going to be James Bond.
But then I found a show that made me believe that in another world, a schlubby loser like me could be a superspy. What was the show? Well, it was Chuck, of course.

Zachary Levi isn’t giving up on the movie followup to his NBC series Chuck, and he says creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak are on board.
Levi starred in the spy dramedy from 2007 to 2012 as Chuck Bartowski, an average guy who was dragged into the world of the the CIA and Nsa to take on dangerous criminals and other threats. He’s been campaigning for an expansion of the Chuck universe since the show ended, but he recently said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show that it might actually be coming to fruition.
“I’ve been trying to make a Chuck movie since before we even finished the show. I saw the writing on the wall, I saw a lot of the streaming stuff starting to pop up. I saw a lot of like, well, people are doing, you know, like, you know, Zach Braff, I think was crowdfunding.

Mel McKeon and Laura Myones Ruf have been working side by side so long that it’s common they finish each other’s sentences. That comes in helpful, especially now, as the veteran talent managers have a lot to talk about.
It’s been a year since the two, who started working together in 1997 with Myones starting as McKeon’s assistant, rebranded their McKeon/Myones Entertainment to Afa Prime Talent, a transition that has signaled a new era for their management-production company.
Together, they have maintained a client roster of busy actors including Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale), Sarah Shahi (Black Adam, Sex/Life), Alona Tal (Cross), Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool 2, Invasion), Vivian Wu (Afterparty, Irma Vep), Michael Trucco (Average Joe), Thomas Barbusca (The Mick, Chad), Sean Patrick Thomas (Till, For All Mankind and The Boys spinoff Gen V), Missi Pyle (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Y: The Last Man), Elaine Hendrix...

Five seasons into its run, "The Handmaid's Tale" has now outpaced both the book on which it's based and the presidency it was so aptly born into. Now, the show is finally set to end with its sixth season, which will close the book on some of its central stories while others could still continue on in a sequel saga that's already been greenlit, titled "The Testaments."
If you've made it this far into "The Handmaid's Tale," you know that the world of Gilead is probably too bleak and morally shady to get a straightforward happy ending, but that still won't stop fans from wondering about exactly how the story of June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) will come to a close. The fifth season ended on an intriguing note in November, with a plot that has June and her baby separated from everyone she knows — except her former tormenter Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) and her own baby.

In a 20-minute conversation about creating the fearsome Dedra Meero for “Andor,” actor Denise Gough mentions the show’s writing exactly seven times.

Well, we’re on the lam in No Man’s Land with June and Serena, but it’s not nearly as fun as I hoped it would be. June (Elisabeth Moss) is pissed off and confused; the stress of the scenario sends Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) into labour. And oh yeah, they barely make it a mile away from the scene of last episode’s jailbreak before Serena drives the getaway car into a ditch.
The frantic present
Luckily – I guess? – the ditch is near an abandoned barn that looks about one stiff breeze from crumbling into dust. It’s amazing what The Handmaid’s Tale has conditioned its viewers to see as good luck. Now, Serena’s giving birth in the cold while June paces around wondering why she doesn’t just desert her. June gave birth to Nichole, scared and alone in that empty house in Gilead. That’s Old Testament justice,...

Christine Baranski‘s surprise inclusion for “The Good Fight” wasn’t the only shocker that last year’s Best Drama TV Actress Golden Globe lineup delivered. After being left out for the third season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” two years earlier, Elisabeth Moss returned to the category for its fourth installment. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which had shut out Season 3 of the Hulu drama across the board, had seemingly moved on from the show and rarely invites people back to the party after dropping them for a regular series. The fact that Moss was able to overcome all these hurdles is a feather in her cap, and the reason you shouldn’t be caught off guard if she now pulls off yet another nomination, for Season 5, despite facing much stiffer competition this time around.
In hindsight, the actor’s return to the TV drama actress lineup shouldn’t have been that surprising at all.

It feels strange to spend so much time outside of Gilead on The Handmaid’s Tale. But with Serena newly installed as Commander Lawrence’s diplomatic puppet in Toronto and June and Luke inching toward something that looks like romantic reconciliation, this is where the show lives now. What used to be a series about prison escape has transformed into a show about political revolution.
This week’s episode – “Dear Offred” – is a slight one. The circumstances of our characters don’t change as much as their outlooks do. If the episode has a main point, it’s to show us that the situation in Toronto is more fragile than we realised. Moira calls the city an “overcrowded refugee town”. One wrong move by any asylum-seeker, like hot-headed June, could have a negative impact on the entire community.
We also get a staggering, disheartening glimpse into how far the ideals of Gilead have penetrated other countries.

A close-up shot of Elisabeth Moss staring into the camera with an intense expression has become a cliché because it happens in nearly every episode of "The Handmaid's Tale." But there's a moment at the end of the Season 5 finale, entitled "Safe," where this kind of shot is completely earned. The fifth season is all about June Osborn's struggle to find her identity while sorting her unresolved Gilead trauma. Her violent vengeance on Fred Waterford does not bring her the inner peace she thought it would.
At the core of this season is June's relationship with Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski). In the Season 4 episode "Home," she confronts a pregnant Serena in prison, quaking with anger as she banishes her to a "life full of suffering and shame" and hopes that God would kill her baby so she could understand "a fraction" of the pain the Handmaids went through.

One of the most iconic moments in the history of Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” took place in the second episode of Season 5, when Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) returned to Gilead to host the funeral for her late husband, Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes). As the show’s new costume designer Leslie Kavanagh explains in Gold Derby’s Meet the Experts panel, the funeral had to be “a real showstopper” because of what it meant for Gilead as a burgeoning nation. Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Kavanagh reveals, “At the time when when shot the funeral it was the biggest undertaking of all of the seasons of the show, for the sheer amount of numbers of background and cast that were in full Gilead attire from head to toe. So that was a big challenge for us in the costume department, dressing everybody.”

Toto, we’re not in Gilead anymore.
“The Handmaid’s Tale” stayed focused on its central dystopia until Season 4, when June (Elisabeth Moss) escaped to Canada, and even then she couldn’t escape Gilead. June returned multiple times, including in Season 5 to rescue her daughter Hannah (Jordana Blake) from a life of subservience to men.
But the world has changed by the Season 5 finale, “Safe,” which premiered November 9. Gilead is crumbling from within, mainly at the hands of its architect, Joseph Lawrence (Bradley Whitford). The Waterfords, two of its most prolific and vocal advocates, are no more, with Fred dead (Joseph Fiennes) and his widow Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) questioning her path forward. It’s Serena’s grueling internal journey and June’s willingness to compromise that brings both of them to the same time, place, and goal when they meet on a train in the Season 5 finale.
