Christmas might not be until December, but some networks are slapping on their mittens and gearing up for the holiday season as early as October.
Families often find themselves gathered around the TV binging some of Hallmark or Lifetime’s latest Christmas-themed films, and this year is no exception. With people around the country encouraged to stay indoors and avoid crowded locations, Variety breaks down a list of feel-good Christmas movies to tune into this year.
As part of Lifetime’s “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” holiday movie slate, the channel will premiere 30 original TV movies beginning Oct. 23 and running through mid-December. In its efforts to diversify the stories it showcases, Lifetime said it worked with GLAAD and Cape (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) for its first-ever LGBTQ-led film “The Christmas Setup” and “A Sugar & Spice Holiday” centering on an Asian American family.
More films will be added to the list as networks announce them.

Lenny Bruce: Dustin Hoffman in the 1974 Bob Fosse movie. Lenny Bruce movie review: Polemical stand-up comedian merited less timid biopic (Oscar Movie Series) Bob Fosse's 1974 biopic Lenny has two chief assets: the ever relevant free speech issues it raises and the riveting presence of Valerie Perrine. The film itself, however, is only sporadically thought-provoking or emotionally gripping; in fact, Lenny is a major artistic letdown, considering all the talent involved and the fertile material at hand. After all, much more should have come out of a joint effort between director Fosse, fresh off his Academy Award win for Cabaret; playwright-screenwriter Julian Barry, whose stage version of Lenny earned Cliff Gorman a Tony Award; two-time Best Actor Oscar nominee Dustin Hoffman (The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy); and cinematographer Bruce Surtees (Play Misty for Me, Blume in Love). Their larger-than-life subject? Lenny Bruce, the stand-up comedian who became one of the...

Commercials will never stop finding new ways to entice us into the never-ending abyss of complicit consumerism, and the seductive but anodyne faux-Swede spokesperson for Gevalia coffee Johan is just one in a long line of male pitchmen hunky enough to appeal to American women (and gays) but– we’re guessing here– simultaneously hokey enough not be threatening to American men.
Oh Johan, “Toot toot.” No need to toot your own horn, we’ll do it for you. And side note, the actor who plays Johan, Jon Prescott, also played James Franco‘s lover Neal Cassady in Howl.
Bad blonde wig aside, Prescott’s Johan is almost as seductive as another recent pitchman with nearly universal appeal, The Old Spice Guy…

Daniel Radcliffe: Gay sex scene in ‘Kill Your Darlings’ will ‘startle’ fans (photo: Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan in ‘Kill Your Darlings’) Daniel Radcliffe, 24, has survived Harry Potter. Last year, he starred in the horror thriller The Woman in Black, a major sleeper hit in the United Kingdom and a moderate one in several other countries, including the United States and Mexico. Radcliffe’s next release is the John Krokidas-directed drama Kill Your Darlings, in which the (former) bespectacled Harry Potter plays bespectacled gay poet Allen Ginsberg — whose sexually daring poem "Howl" resulted in charges of obscenity in 1957. And of course, when it came to gay sex, Ginsberg did more than just write poems. And that’s where Daniel Radcliffe will do some unHarry Potterish on-screen business. ‘Kill Your Darlings’ gay sex scene “I felt like I was breaking new ground," Daniel Radcliffe is quoted as saying in Total Film.

Brace yourselves. This list of the Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here at AfterElton.
But before we get to that, an introduction. A few weeks ago we asked AfterElton readers to submit up to ten of their favorite films by write-in vote. We conducted a similar poll several years ago, but a lot has happened culturally since then, and a number of worthy movies of gay interest have been released. We wanted to see how your list of favorites had changed.
We also wanted to expand our list to 100 from the top 50 we had done previously. We figured there were finally enough quality gay films to justify the expansion. And we wanted to break out gay documentaries onto their own list (You'll find the...

The interwoven kaleidoscope of the residents of a small east coast town and their familiar and relatable circumstances are explored in the socially conscious drama series River Ridge.

Ja from Mnpp here, with the first couple of pictures from Walter Salles' adaptation of Jack Kerouac's semi-autobiographical classic On the Road. (via) On the right that's Sam Riley as Kerouac stand-in Sal Paradise, with Garrett Hedlund as Neal Cassidy stand-in Dean Moriarty. No look at Kristen Stewart or Kirsten Dunst or Viggo Mortensen, amongst others, yet. Apparently the few people who've seen the film so far are saying the film, and Stewart in particular, as very good. No specific release date's set yet but it should be out before the end of the year.
We just saw Kerouac and Cassidy on-screen last year in Howl, played by Todd Rotundi and Jon Prescott, seen here:
It's a popular time to be a Beat, eh? I wonder why On the Road's finally able to get made after all these years. Does anybody think Mad Men's successful fetishization of...

One of the seminal forces of the Beat movement finally gets the film treatment with Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman's Howl (out today). The story of poet Allen Ginsberg (played by James Franco), the film is a chronicle of the 1957 obscenity trial over over his most famous work, "Howl," and the years leading up to its publishing. Aside from the always-game Franco, the film features an ensemble of hard working actors with their own devoted followers such as Jon Hamm and Mary-Louise Parker. Joining these heavy weights is Jon Prescott as the enigmatic Neal Cassady. A former host for the Outdoor Network, Howl serves as an opportunity for Prescott to show his full range. He talked to us about road trips and spooning with James Franco.
Gillian Mohney: Hi, how's it going?
Jon Prescott: It's going good. I just stepped off the street on 34th street and ducked...

The poem's new domestic publisher, Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s City Lights Bookstore, was brought to trial on obscenity charges. Howl examines the obscenity trial against Ferlinghetti, relying heavily on dialogue taken verbatim from the courtroom transcripts. Howl also interprets “Howl” via an interview that Ginsberg gave to Life magazine as...

Check out the poster as well as the trailer for Oscilloscope Laboratories' "Howl" starring James Franco as Allen Gisnberg, Todd Rotondi as Jack Kerouac, Jon Prescott as Neal Cassady, Aaron Tveit as Peter Orlovsky, David Strathairn as Ralph McIntosh and Jon Hamm as Jake Ehrich. Check out all the images, the poster and the trailer below! “I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked . . .” Howl is the story of how the young poet’s seminal work broke down societal barriers in the face of an infamous public obscenity trial. In his famously confessional style, Ginsberg – poet, counter-culture icon, and chronicler of the Beat Generation – recounts the road trips, love affairs, and search for personal liberation that led to "Howl," the most timeless work of his career. "Howl" interweaves three stories: the unfolding of the landmark 1957 obscenity trial; an imaginative animated ride through the prophetic...

AfterElton.com previewed Howl, the new film starring James Franco as a young Allen Ginsberg, earlier this week.
Howl directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, (Common Threads, Celluloid Closet) tell their story not with interviews and archival footage, but by weaving together dramatization, re-enactment and wild jazz-soundtracked hallucinatory animation.
James Franco is compelling whether he's reading "Howl" to an entraptured Beat audience, chain smoking through an interview in a Rome hotel room, or dropping to his knees to give Neal Cassady (Jon Prescott) oral sex.
James Franco, right, as Allen Ginsberg and Aaron Tveit, left, as Peter Orlovsky, Ginsberg's partner for over 40 years.
AfterElton.com will feature a full review later in the year.
Howl is showing at the Seattle International Film Festival on June 12, at the closing night of the 34th San Francisco International Lgbt Film Festival (Frameline) on June 27, and on the opening night of the 28th Los...

Proving that there is life after Kish, fired "One Life to Live" star Scott Evans has lined up his next project, an independent movie called "The One." Fans rallied in support of Evans and his co-star Brett Claywell after their gay storyline was written out of the soap.
According to AfterElton, Evans' new film is described as "a quick-witted, tender romantic dramedy about a young, successful Manhattan investment banker who lives the charmed Upper East Side Manhattan life about to marry the woman of his dreams who, a month before his wedding, meets and unexpectedly falls in love with a charismatic man from his past."
His love interest will be played by super-hot Jon Prescott, who has appeared on "One Life to Live" as Chad, and as Mike on "As the World Turns." The couple will have three love scenes in the film.
