In 2007, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez decided to bring back the 1970′s with their homage to the glory days of cinema with their double feature, Grindhouse. It feature a movie directed by each man, Planet Terror directed by Rodriguez and Death Proof directed by Tarantino, with fake trailers before and between each movie. It didn’t do as well as some would have wanted at the box office, but it kick started a fad that was long overdue. Since then we’ve had an abundance amount of grindhouse type movies both in the theater and direct to DVD, culminating with Rodriguez’ hit Machete, which was one of the fake trailers seen before Planet Terror. The music for Hobo With A Shotgun was created by not one, but three, composers (Russ Howard III, Darius Holbert, and Adam Burke) who vary in style and background, but came together to score the tale of a Hobo (Rutger Hauer) turned vigilante as he comes upon a town ruled by violence.

After the screenings of Hobo With A Shotgun that took place during this year’s Sundance Film Festival (read our review), I heard many reactions ranging from “awesome” to “badass” to simply “Hobos!,” but when GATWer Brian Kelley came back from the screening, he was raving about the music. The score for Hobo was actually created by three composers – Russ Howard III, Darius Holbert, and Adam Burke.
