Anyone who fancies themselves as a Green Lantern fan has probably noticed that each representative of Sector 2814 has been given ample time to shine in a solo series. Whether it be Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner or Kyle Rayner, each of those ringslingers have had an era that they could definitively call their own, and each also made vast contributions to the ongoing mythology.
But when DC relaunched the flagship space cop title in 2016, they pluralized it with Green Lanterns, effectively placing the focus squarely on rookies Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. Now, this could’ve been a disaster if placed in the hands of lesser writers, but Sam Humphries gave those two such personality and charted exciting new territory from the get-go.
Obviously, creators don’t stay on specific titles forever, and this one is no exception. Fortunately, we have Tim Seeley to carry the torch and, if...

Knowing that Iron Fist’s popularity may very well hit the stratosphere once his Netflix series officially launches, Marvel is ready to capitalize on the character’s inevitable mainstream success by rolling out a new comic book series in a matter of weeks. Needless to say, that’s a pretty wise strategy.
As with any comic that garners a fair amount of attention, variant covers illustrated by some of the industry’s top names are often expected to be a part of the package. Just a couple months ago, we did indeed get a look at one for Iron Fist #1, but today we learn about a few more that diehard collectors won’t want to miss out on.
In recent memory, the retailer exclusive variant has become more and more commonplace. Not only does...

Things are certainly picking up for Slade Wilson, as he’ll soon find himself as the lynchpin in DC’s crossover event this May, “The Lazarus Contract.” Set to span four books – Titans, Teen Titans, Deathstroke and a Teen Titans Annual – it will place Wally West directly in the crosshairs of the world’s deadliest assassin, who aims to resurrect the original Ravager, his son Grant.
Luckily, we’ll get a great sense of cohesion when you take into account that the regular writers for each participating series – Dan Abnett, Benjamin Percy and Christopher Priest – will join their great minds and co-write every issue that’s part of the crossover.
Suffice it to say, this project couldn’t come at a more opportune time when you consider that the animated film Teen Titans: The Judas...

New York Comic Con has once again rushed by in a giant, fun, crazy blur, and although I didn’t get to nearly all the things I was hoping to, I did have a rockin’ time and see some really cool things I can share.
The first of these were a few great panels I landed seats for, including, as is my tradition, the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles panel. If you don’t know I love the current Tmnt, then what are you, new here? But seriously, I love it. And each panel I have gone to brings something new and different.
This panel (with Andrea Romano (voice director), Eric Bauza (Tiger Claw), Kevin Michael Richardson (The Shredder), Greg Cipes (Mikey), Rob Paulsen (Donnie), and Ciro Nieli (Executive Producer)) was particularly fun, because one of the things they did was a live read of episode #420, “The Super Shredder,” which...

Con season has well and truly slid into gear now; with Awesome Con kicking things off a few weeks ago and Sdcc and NerdHQ fast approaching. Of course, con season is really year-round these days; but for me, it starts with Awesome Con and ends with New York Comic Con.
This year’s Awesome Con was, as usual, a great start to the season for me. What I like about the con is that despite only being four years old, it’s managed to integrate various fun aspects of different flavors of cons into a fairly seamless whole – meaning that if you aren’t there for one particular facet of the offerings, there are plenty of others to experience. Here were some of the highlights for me:
The media guests:

ABC’s flagship McU property, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., returned to the airwaves this week and continued the story of the titular team out to stop threats closing in on all sides – namely evil Agent Ward who’s now ultra-evil Ward/Hive.

Anyone actually at WonderCon will be able to get the poster exclusively at the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel and cast signing happening March 26 at 2 Pm in Los Angeles.

Deadpool and Spider-Man have a long history, and Wade has been getting on Peter's nerves for years.
Spider-Man and Deadpool are like two sides of the same coin. Their outfits look a lot alike, they have similar builds, they both like to joke endlessly as a front to hide their personal issues, etc.
Plus they both have a tendency to annoy Wolverine on a regular basis.
But for a while, they weren't really compatible outside of that. Spider-Man has upstanding morals and despite living a tragic and surreal lifestyle as a superhero, he at least juggles it with something resembling a normal life. Deadpool is stuck in his tragic and surreal lifestyle with no real normalcy mixed in. He’s also responsible for a kill count that’s somewhere in the triple digits (at least) and that is Not something Spider-Man’s cool with.

I’ve said before that, despite liking to attend all flavors of fandom and comics conventions, including (clearly) the media guest-focused cons, I really love Baltimore Comic Con because it has stayed so focused on comics and comics creators. I’m happy to report that this has not changed.
I had a great time in Baltimore this year, doing some of the things that make me happiest at comic cons, like walking the exhibit hall and wandering Artist Alley to see what new things old friends are up to, meet folks whose work I know but whom I’ve never chatted with, and flip through the work of creators I haven’t ever encountered before. Amongst the fun things I discovered were this nifty accordion-style comic by Christa Cassano and Dean Haspiel; a gorgeous limited edition coloring book by Charles Vess, whose work I’ve loved for a long time...

Justice League United #0 and #1
Jeff Lemire, Mike McKone, Marcelo Maiolo
DC Comics
Jeff Lemire and Mike McKone’s Justice League United #0 presents part one of a five-part story, making issue #1, the second comic DC has released this month, that is wrongfully billed as a first issue. It’s essentially just the second chapter of a quinary story arc.
Following the “Forever Evil” crossover, Justice League United kicks off with a fresh spin and an alternative super team, set in Canada, and that includes several favourite B-list heroes, and 2 new characters never before seen.
Written by Canadian native Jeff Lemire, famous for Essex County, and who’s since gone on to establish himself as an important writer for DC and respectively Vertigo, Justice League United is just good enough, to keep all the DC Comics crazed readers out there happy while keeping the rest of us earthbound types in moderate thralldom.

DC Comics looks to broaden its cultural horizons again through the launch of their newest monthly series entitled Justice League United. Issue #0 of the series features the debut appearance of the first Native American/First Nation super hero. Equinox is her name and she is what's called a Cree from Canada. With her powers coming from the Earth and changing with the seasons, she looks to be a serious asset to the team.
Justice League United #0 gathers a diverse group of super heroes to do battle against an alien force in the process of invading the world. Martian Manhunter, Animal Man, Stargirl, Green Arrow, Hawkman, Adam Strange, Solstice, and Supergirl must all combine their unique strengths against the sinister plans of an intergalactic enemy. Justice League United #0
Written by Jeff Lemire
Art by Mike McKone
Colored by Marcelo Maiolo
Published by DC Comics
First of all, I feel a bit odd as an American is reviewing a book that was originally called Justice League Canada for a Canadian website. Nonetheless, Justice League United #0 is a weird, little book filled with laughs, obscure characters, and a bit of science fiction tinged mystery. It features some underused and potentially interesting DC Universe characters, like Martian Manhunter and Animal Man, as well as a new teen Cree hero from rural Ontario. Writer Jeff Lemire and artist Mike McKone really commit to the rural Canadian setting even if “Justice League Canada” currently has one member who is actually Canadian. McKone and colorist Marcelo Maiolo depict the snow drifts and trees near Moose Bay, Ontario with care and detail contrasting the dreary Canadian winter with the colorful and mysterious alien visitors.

In comics news this week, Matt Fraction, one of Marvel’s brightest stars and writer of the award-winning Hawkeye, has been replaced by Charles Soule as the writer of the upcoming new Marvel series, Inhuman, though Joe Madureira remains the series artist. No reasons were given for the switch nor for pushing back the release date from January to April. Inhuman spins off of the Marvel Event Infinity where thousands of new Inhumans appeared after Black Bolt exploded a Terrigen Bomb, with the series looking at the changed lives of the newly transformed Inhumans. Soule is a prolific comics writer, currently helming Superman/Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing and Red Lanterns for DC, Letter 44 for Oni, and Thunderbolts for Marvel along with the new She-Hulk series set to debut in February.
DC are going to end two of their original New 52 line-up titles, Animal Man and The Dark Knight, early next year.
