Wheel of Fortune always acknowledges its big wins… usually with lots and lots of confetti. But for his final hour, Pat Sajak, the dependable captain of the celebrated game show, requested the chance to, more or less, sail quietly off into the sunset. The host’s final installment was filmed on the first Friday in April, and it’s scheduled to air two months later, on Friday, June 7. Executive producer Bellamie Blackstone revealed to us that viewers would hear a few words of farewell from Sajak, as well as Vanna White’s thoughts on losing her longtime colleague. But Sajak wished to keep his last episode focused on the game and, most importantly, its players, whom he has always kept at ease. “I think it’s my most important role on the show,” Sajak told his daughter Maggie Sajak in an exclusive interview during his final tapings. Exclusive: ABC is keeping hold of vowels, consonants and questions after renewing Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!.
The Disney company’s owned and operated stations have ponied up a big increase to keep the long-running gameshows on their schedule.
Deadline understands that it has renewed both shows, which are the two-most watched shows in syndication, for five years through the 2027-2028 season. This will take Wheel of Fortune through its 45th season and Jeopardy! through its 44th season.
It comes five years after its last big increase was announced, which saw ABC beat Fox to keep hold of both shows for the 2020-2021, 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons after Fox came in with a rival bid.
The move means that Wheel of Fortune, which is now exec produced by Bellamie Blackstone, will be moving into its 41st season, with Jeopardy!, which is exec produced by Michael Davies, will be going into its 40th season.

The Wheel of Fortune, as we know it, could soon be over.
In a new interview celebrating his 40th year as host, Pat Sajak opened up about his future on the hit series.
"In most television shows by this time, you would have said, 'That’s probably enough,' but this show will not die," Sajak says of the show's resilience to Et.
"It appears I may go before the show," the star adds.
"Years go by fast. We're getting near the end. It's been a long [time]. We're not gonna do this for another 40 years. The end is near," he tells Et.
"... It's an honor to have been in people's living rooms for that long. People were out there welcoming us. We're happy and proud."
For now, the series is moving forward.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Vanna White's puzzle board would be upgraded for the 40th season premiere.

Wheel of Fortune introduced some big changes on Monday’s (September 12) premiere of its milestone 40th season, and fans have mixed opinions. Among the new looks was a brand new puzzle board. The original version of the show, which premiered in 1975, had a puzzle board where co-host Vanna White had to flip the letter tiles manually. This was updated to a digital board in 2013, with host Pat Sajak saying, “The new board… it’s heat-activated if you will.” Now, the latest board is even more advanced, even using technology that was used on the Mars rover. “The technology behind how Vanna interacts with it is something that’s used in self-driving cars. It’s used on the Mars rover… so now we can put up our logo or any graphics we want to; we can also change it [back] to the puzzle board,” said the show’s executive producer Bellamie Blackstone.

Who is Michael Davies?
That would be the answer to the question of who Sony has named the new executive producer of “Jeopardy!,” as Davies announced on Thursday. The announcement comes after former EP and host Mike Richards was ousted from both of his positions in August, and Davies replaced him in the interim.
“Today, I am delighted to announce that I have accepted Sony’s offer to become the show’s full time executive producer,” Davies wrote on the “Jeopardy!” blog Thursday. “I am both honored and humbled by the faith the studio and the staff have put in me. Over the next few months, the scope of our plans will become clear. But, for now I just want to thank everyone in the ‘Jeopardy!’ community for your phenomenal support.”

Embassy Row’s Michael Davies has been executive producing Jeopardy! on an interim basis since the departure of Mike Richards last year. He has now taken on the job full-time.
Davies revealed the news in a blog post on the Jeopardy! website.
“Jeopardy! has a massive opportunity to build further and, far from being threatened by the massive changes in the media landscape, we can take advantage of the emergence of new platforms and bring more Jeopardy! to more audiences. There is just so much more we can do together. So, although I never imagined I’d be writing this… Today, I am delighted to announce that I have accepted Sony’s offer to become the show’s full time Executive Producer,” he wrote.
Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings will continue to share hosting duties through the end of the venerable syndicated game show’s current Season 38.

After a six month search, “Wheel of Fortune” has found a new executive producer in Bellamie Blackstone, who takes the helm of the show as it heads into its 40th anniversary season.
Blackstone’s appointment also closes the book on the Mike Richards era of “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.”
A former executive producer of “The Price is Right,” Richards joined both Sony Pictures Entertainment game shows as executive producer in 2020. Last year, he was given the additional job as host of “Jeopardy.” But he parted ways entirely with Sony in August 2021 — only one week into the hosting gig — after reports surfaced about old podcasts in which he made sophomoric and disparaging remarks about Jews and women. Richards was replaced in the short term on “Jeopardy” by alternating hosts Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings.

Wheel of Fortune has found its new boss.
Bellamie Blackstone has been named exec producer of the long-running gameshow as it heads into its 40th season.
Separately, longtime supervising producer Steve Schwartz has been promoted to co-exec producer.
This comes after Wheel of Fortune was caught in the crossfire of last year’s Jeopardy! turmoil when Mike Richards, who was exec producer of both shows, was forced to step down.
Schwartz stepped up to oversee the production of the show’s 39th season.
It also comes after host Pat Sajak and co-host Vanna White signed up to continue on the show through the 2023/24 season. Production will wrap on the 39th season later this month with new episodes airing through June.
Blackstone recently served as exec producer of Netflix’s Nicholas Cage hosted History of Swear Words as well as Kids Say the Darndest Things and Hulu’s I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman.

Odds are good that if you checked out “History of Swear Words” within the last week, it was to see Nicolas Cage drop a few of those words as only he can. The Netflix show, hosted by Cage in his own scholarly fireside way, takes viewers inside the unexpected etymologies behind some of the English language’s most notorious corners.
But “damn” is a relatively mild entry — in its current usage — that shows not just the full spectrum of how we view explicit language now, but how much it’s changed over many centuries.
“It’s really the story of how something goes from being the most offensive thing you can possibly say, this biblical understanding of you literally damning someone to hell, to being now fairly benign,” showrunner Bellamie Blackstone said. “When we really dug into it, we realized how important it was for for us to talk about the full lifecycle.

Samuel L. Jackson isn’t the only motherf—er in Hollywood who has mastered the F-bomb. At the start of Netflix’s trailer for upcoming comedy series “History of Swear Words,” the show’s perfectly cast host Nic Cage just screams “F—!” literally at the top of his lungs.

It won’t take long for 2021 to get a bonkers new television series thanks to the debut of “History of Swear Words” on Netflix at the start of the new year. The six-episode series hosted by Nicolas Cage tells the origin stories of some of the most widely used curse words around the world, from “fuck” and “shit” to “bitch,” “dick,” “pussy,” and “damn.” Produced by Funny or Die, “History of Swear Words” looks like a riff on Comedy Central’s dearly departed “Drunk History” with an added dose of Cage insanity.

Tiffany Haddish is going to get another crack to hear Kids Say The Darndest Things after CBS picked up the non-scripted show.
This comes after the classic variety show, which is produced by CBS Studios and Anvil 1893 Entertainment, was canceled by ABC after one season.
It marks a return to its original network – Kids Say The Darndest Things first ran on CBS, hosted by Bill Cosby, between 1998 and 2000. The revival aired on ABC between October 2019 and January 2020 and was canceled in May.
There is a history of networks saving shows produced by their sister studios, but it is more common on the scripted side with examples such as Universal Television’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine going from Fox to NBC, ABC Studios’ Scrubs going to the Disney-owned network after its cancelation at NBC and CBS Studios’ Medium moving from NBC to CBS.
The last major non-scripted show to move networks was American Idol,...

CBS is reviving the variety series “Kids Say the Darndest Things” with Tiffany Haddish, some six months after ABC canceled their revival of the classic series after only 1 season.
Haddish will continue in her role as host and executive producer. It will premiere sometime during the current 2020-21 season.
For CBS, the network is touting the move to CBS as a homecoming for the long-running format. It originated as a segment on the CBS Radio show “House Party” by Art Linkletter in 1945. He made it a regular segment between 1952-1969. CBS then made it a TV series hosted by Bill Cosby from 1998-2000.
“I see my role as giving kids a safe environment where they can say anything they want with complete freedom and no judgment. What I love about this show is that we let kids truly be themselves. I’m the straight man here, and that’s fine with me,...

“I see my role as giving kids a safe environment where they can say anything they want with complete freedom and no judgment. What I love about this show is that we let kids truly be themselves. I’m the straight man here, and that’s fine with me,...

Some of the darndest things are happening in the television world of late.
CBS has announced that it has picked up the revival of “Kids Say the Darndest Things,” which ABC canceled earlier this year, for a second season. Tiffany Haddish will return to serve as host and executive producer.
News of the pickup comes around seven months after ABC gave the series the chop. It also represents a return to the show’s original home, as CBS aired the Bill Cosby-hosted version from 1998 to 2000.
Hailing from CBS Studios and Anvil 1893 Entertainment, the new edition will debut sometime in the 2020-21 broadcast season, with a precise premiere date yet to be announced at a later date. Casting is already underway, per CBS.
“Few things have more universal appeal and humor than the unfiltered honesty of a child, and the comedic genius of Tiffany Haddish takes that to the next level.

HBO and Funny or Die are resurrecting Cord Hosenbeck and Tish Cattigan, the “broadcast legends” played by Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon who “hosted” this year’s Rose Parade coverage on Amazon. The pair are now set to take on live coverage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials with The Royal Wedding Live with Cord and Tish!, which HBO will air May 19 at 7:30 Am Et, followed by a replay later that day.
HBO says the veteran TV duo will team with their old friend Tim Meadows and special guests to cover the wedding procession and festivities with their trademark dignity and grace.
