This past weekend the new Joss Whedon-scripted film In Your Eyes, directed by Brin Hill (Ball Don't Lie) premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and immediately after the screening the film was made available around the world online with a special announcement from Whedon himself (see video below). Starring Zoe Kazan, Michael Stahl-David, Nikki Reed, Mark Feuerstein, Jennifer Grey and Steve Howey the film is set amidst the frozen East Coast winter. Rebecca (Kazan) is withering away in a life of cocktail parties and lonely nights as the sheltered, soft-spoken wife of a successful doctor. Across the country in sun-drenched, arid New Mexico, charismatic ex-con Dylan (Stahl-David) is struggling to find his footing and a fresh start. When these polar opposites realize they share an inexplicable connection, a unique metaphysical romance begins. In preparation for the worldwide release, the film is being released with Spanish, German, Portuguese, French and...

When "In Your Eyes," the new supernatural romance written and co-produced by "Avengers" filmmaker Joss Whedon, premiered last night as part of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, it came with a bonus announcement. As Whedon said in a prerecorded message, played at the conclusion of the film's premiere, "This is not just the world premiere, but also its international release date." That's right -- you can grab the movie right now.
The film stars Zoe Kazan as a woman living in New Hampshire and Michael Stahl-David (tangentially connected to the Whedon-verse through the "Cloverfield," scripted by Whedon confederate Drew Goddard) as an ex-con in New Mexico, who share a metaphysical connection wherein they can share each others senses. Kazan has called it "Joss Whedon does Nicholas Sparks," although it's much better than that. (I really, really liked it.)

Experimenting with digital distribution models seems to be the hip thing to do these days, and now Joss Whedon has jumped on the bandwagon. Following Tribeca's Sunday night premiere of his new supernatural romance In your Eyes, featuring Zoe Kazan and Michael Stahl-David, Whedon announced that this was "not just the world premiere, but also its international release date," and that the film could be downloaded online immediately. The film costs $5 for a 72-hour rental, and is available via a Vimeo video player embedded into the film's site. While day-and-date releases in cinemas and VOD are becoming more and more common, a digital-only release, particularly one that coincides with the world premiere, is something we haven't seen much of before. As producer Michael Roiff said in the post-screening Q&A, “From the get-go, we always wanted to do something different with it. We said, ‘Screw it — we made it for...

You would think with all things Marvel on his plate, Joss Whedon wouldn't have time for much else, but you'd be wrong. Last year he dropped the indie Shakespearean tale "Much Ado About Nothing," and now he's headed into the Tribeca Film Festival as the writer and executive producer of the metaphysical romance "In Your Eyes." And today we have a little treat for you from the film. Produced by Kai Cole and Michael Roiff and directed by Brin Hill, the film stars Zoe Kazan, Michael Stahl-David, Nikki Reed, Mark Feuerstein, Steve Harris and Jennifer Grey in the tale that follows a sheltered East Coast housewife and an ex-con and waitress in New Mexico who all connect in ways they couldn't imagine. Weaving the movie together is composer Tony Morales ("Hatfields & McCoys," "The Bag Man"), and below you can listen to his evocative "Break Up" from the soundtrack, helping to power this unique film.

Larry Gaye: Renegade Male Flight Attendant – a completely new project which will have an awesome cast on board. So make sure you remember this title!
We’ve just learned that Mark Feuerstein, Stanley Tucci, Marcia Gay Harden, Molly Shannon, Taye Diggs and Henry Winkler are all on board for this low-budget comedy which comes from director Sam Friedlander. Not bad at all, don’t you think?
Mike Sikowitz (probably best known as writer of 8 episodes of TV series “Friends”) wrote the script for this comedy so let’s guess that nothing could go wrong with the story. And the story will center on Feuerstein’s character, a womanizing, self-anointed ‘renegade’ male flight attendant Larry Gaye who must save the day when the airline he works for tries to eliminate flight attendants as a cost-cutting measure.

The Palm Springs ShortFest has announced that highly-acclaimed writer/director Gus Van Sant will be presented with the ShortFest Spirit of Short Film Award as part of a special Directing Master Class presentation celebrating his work in film. A selection of his short films will be shown on Saturday, June 23rd at 2:30 p.m. with a discussion headed by Festival Director Darryl Macdonald. Van Sant, who earned Oscar nominations for "Good Will Hunting" and "Milk," was previously honored at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in 2009 when he received the Sonny Bono Visionary Award.
I personally salute the Palm Springs ShortFest. It is such a grassroots effort that honor the diversity and talent of many striving filmmakers. And most of the films shown move on to win Oscars such as "Freeheld" which won Best Documentary Short in 2008.

Michael Stahl-David and Zoe Kazan are set to lead in Joss Whedon’s science-fiction romantic indie film, In Your Eyes.
Directed by Brin Hill with a script by Joss Whedon, the film is a metaphysical love story in which Stahl-David plays the character of Dylan who lives in a trailer in New Mexico after serving time in jail and Kazan plays the character of Rebecca, an attractive but slightly awkward woman who is married to an older doctor and living in Connecticut. The two have never met, but through a powerful connection that neither of them could have imagined, the two seemingly opposite characters can hear and see each other.
Stahl-David made his feature film debut as the lead in Jj Abrams’ Cloverfield and last starred in ABC’s My Generation, whilst Kazan, who scripted Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris’ He Loves Me is well-known for her role in Sam Mendes’ Revolutionary Road.

There are reports today that Lionsgate has started moving on Catching Fire, the second installment of The Hunger Games trilogy, with Simon Beaufoy adapting the Suzanne Collins novel, and Gary Ross returning as director of a film set for release November 22, 2013. Deadline readers might recall we told you all this last November, when progress actually began on the sequel… The Avengers director Joss Whedon probably had his own designs on how to reveal his next film, but Mad Men‘s Abigail Spencer did it for him by telling Vulture she would be in the cast of his next film, that it would start production next month, and that it is a supernatural romance. The cynical part of me wonders if this is the supernatural romance In Your Eyes, which Whedon unveiled last Halloween as the second film (after Much Ado About Nothing) from his new microbudget feature factory Bellwether. Seriously, does this man ever sleep? Joss Whedon, the geek king who's hand has graced "The Avengers," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and the completely-done-in-secret feature film adaptation of William Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" has announced a brand new project.
Whedon and his wife, Kai Cole, have formed a "micro-studio" called Bellwether Pictures. Their first project? A supernatural romance called "In Your Eyes."
