Fremantle’s scripted podcast producer Storyglass is to be spun out into a standalone company within the Bertelsmann Group, and will now make shows across a variety of genres including scripted, documentary, true crime, lifestyle and music.
Storyglass previously sat in Fremantle’s drama unit, but will become a standalone outfit at the producer’s parent company Bertelsmann, sitting alongside Fremantle itself and the likes of Penguin Random House UK, BMG and Dk. It is part of Bertelsmann’s “content alliance” initiative to encourage collaboration between the companies it owns.
Bertelsmann is currently recruiting for a commercial director to run Storyglass, while a creative director will also be appointed to develop the company’s creative and talent strategy and manage all podcast production. Robert Delamere is the current creative director of Storyglass.

Golden Globe-winning Downton Abbey actress Joanne Froggatt is to turn her hand to podcasting by starring in supernatural thriller The Harrowing from Fremantle podcast label Storyglass.
Froggatt will feature as Sergeant Jackie O’Hara in the show, which will be available on Apple Podcasts from June 25. It tells the story of supernatural events on a remote Scottish island over Easter, when a girl and mysterious stranger vanish and only O’Hara is left to recount what happened.
The eight-part show is written by Mark Healy. It is executive produced by Fremantle’s director of global drama, Sarah Doole, and Storyglass creative director Robert Delamere, while Ben Walker is the producer.

The company has partnered with Easy Tiger, a Fremantle-backed production company from Australia, on six-part series Ultra.

All3media International has signed an exclusive first-look deal with Slam Films, the scripted TV indie led by Episodes star Stephen Mangan and actor-producer Louise Delamere (No Angels).
The agreement gives all3media first look to sign distribution rights on any of the company’s new commissions for the next two years. Bridesmaids star Chris O’Dowd and Shameless’ Anne-Marie Duff are to front Baby It’s Cold Outside, the first podcast to emerge from Fremantle’s scripted podcast label Storyglass.
O’Dowd stars as Ed and Duff plays his estranged wife Sam in the drama, a story of an ordinary man, struggling with homelessness, who is trying to have a special day with his son, whilst keeping secret the tragedy of his circumstances. Billy Jenkins (The Crown) plays Ed and Sam’s son George.

Stage director Robert Delamere and producer Tom Shaw, partners in Altered States Media, founded the company, which launched Oct. 26 with the English Touring Theatre production of "Far From the Madding Crowd" in a new adaptation by Mark Healy. Downloads cost £8.99 ($14.69).
The Young Vic will follow with a production of Clare Bayley's "The Container" in association with Amnesty International. The Almeida Theatre, the Royal Court, and the Royal Shakespeare Company will also participate, and the venture has the support of U.K. unions Equity and Bectu.
