Chris Charla, director of Microsoft’s independent game publishing program ID@Xbox, revealed via a post on Xbox Wire that the company will be allowing multi-platform video games to implement the ability for players “to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.” It’s an extension of Microsoft’s policy of having online play between Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, such as with “Gears Of War Ultimate Edition.” But “cross-network play” would be a much bigger step for the the company and the industry, because gaming networks like Xbox Live and PlayStation Network exist to serve.

During the most recent episode of Microsoft’s Inner Circle podcast, ID@Xbox director Chris Charla revealed that he “would love to see” Hello Games’ space exploration sim No Man’s Sky launch on Xbox One.
Currently scheduled to debut on PlayStation 4 before making its way onto PC at a later date, the eye-catching title has drew praise from across the industry for its blue-sky thinking and procedural design. Although, Charla noted that if it is to be ported to Microsoft’s current-gen console, the decision ultimately rests in the hands of Hello Games.
However, the director also admitted that many indie developers may be dissuaded from bringing software to the Xbox One due to Microsoft’s controversial launch parity clause, which states that games must launch for the console on the same day as rival systems, such as the PS4 and PC.

Although we’ve yet to find out which Xbox 360 and Xbox One games will be free in January as part of Microsoft’s Games With Gold promotion, it’s been confirmed that the quirky #Idarb will be one such freebie when it releases in February.
Shortened from It Draws a Red Box to #Idarb, Other Ocean Interactive’s latest is a fast, colourful and wholly frenetic sports game that resembles a combination of hockey, basketball and retro gaming. It’s really something you’ll need to see to believe (and understand, although that may only come from going hands-on with the game), and exists as one of the console’s more curious upcoming titles. Of course, it’s an ID@Xbox indie game, which explains a lot.
“We’re big fans of #Idarb and we’re stoked Other Ocean is previewing the game early for fans,” said ID@Xbox Director Chris Charla.

The average price of Xbox Live Arcade games is increasing, a Microsoft executive has claimed. Xbox Live Arcade portfolio director Chris Charla admitted that the average price for an Xbox Live Arcade game has increased in line with a rise in quality. "If you look at Live Arcade, and do the math, and look at the publicly available sales numbers, you can see that average prices on Xbla have crept up over the last few years, which has been an interesting trend because on some app markets there's been a race to zero as fast as possible," he told GamesIndustry.biz.
