Netflix has shared details on its next Brazilian original series, “O Cangaceiro do Futuro,” a comedy caper starring Edmilson Filho and Chandelly Braz which will hit the platform later this year.
Glaz, which previously collaborated with Netflix on “Get the Goat,” produces the series, which was created by Halder Gomes, a writer-director-producer who has worked many times with “O Cangaceiro do Futuro” lead Filho, achieving popular success in both theatrical features and TV.
Filming has already wrapped on the series, which shot in the rural town of Quixadá, in Ceará, Northeast Brazil, before wrapping in São Paulo. The show’s shoot and incorporation of talent such as Gomes, from Caerá capital Fortaleza, are examples of Netflix’s “goal to expand to all regions of Brazil,” as Elisabetta Zenatti, VP, Brazilian Content, announced last November.
The series turns on Virguley (Filho), a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none who is struggling to make ends meet in the big city,...

An investigative journalist, Thomas Mathews, risks losing everything as he obsessively searches for his missing son. After nearly being arrested, Mathews decides it is time for him to go back to work. When a special assignment about alien abductions and encounters brings Mathews to Brazil, he finds out that things are not all as they seem and that this place known as ‘Area Q’ might hold the answers he needs.
Area Q has an interesting story. It is almost like a ‘whodunnit’ crossed with something which would feel quite at home in the X-Files. It follows a reporter, obsessed with trying to find his son, who is sent...

The execution, however, is severely lacking. In this movie, a handful of strangers are brought together in a morgue and are picked off one by one. Normally, I would warn readers when the back of a DVD gives away a crucial Spoiler about the film. In this case, the summary reveals not just a minor secret, but, in fact, the movie’s “astonishing twist.” Not only that, but it discloses the “astonishing twist” in the first sentence. The reason I’ve quoted and repeated “astonishing twist” (their words, not mine) is that said “twist” is laughingly foreseeable and, if there’s anything “astonishing” about The Morgue, it’s that Lionsgate bothered to distribute this direct-to-dvd release. That’s why I would suggest, if you have any interest in the film (and choose to ignore my forthcoming attempts to dissuade you from seeing The Morgue), you should actually read the revealing description on the DVD case, skip the movie and be thankful you have 84 more minutes of free time in your day.

Bachelor Party in the Bungalow of the Damned (2008)
Directed by Brian Thompson
Wow, it sounds almost like a Satanic version of the classic Tom Hanks film Bachelor Party, except I’m sure it won’t be nearly as funny or horrific. The story follows Sammy, a kid who has come across a genuine bungalow in the Hamptons so decides to throw the ultimate bachelor party for his friend. The strippers show up, but so does his friends girlfriend and pretty soon all hell has quite literally broken loose. Buy it here!
The Gleam (2006)
Directed by Sri Rang
Young actors will really do anything for money, up to an including feeding live humans to mad scientists. Young Max is one of those actors, just trying to make his way through the world, and...
