Following a dismal run in theaters, comedy Take Me Home Tonight will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on July 19 from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
That 70s Show star Topher Grace is in the 1980s for this movie. He plays an MIT graduate who, disgusted by the materialism around him, has quit his high-paying job to work as a clerk at a Suncoast video store. He pursues his dream girl (Teresa Palmer, I Am Number Four) at a Labor Day weekend party, with his twin sister (Anna Faris, Yogi Bear) and best friend (Dan Fogler, Love Happens) in tow. Chris Pratt (TV’s Parks and Recreation), Michael Biehn (Terminator), Lucy Punch (You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger) and Michelle Trachtenberg (TV’s Mercy) round out the cast.
Despite opening in more than 2,000 screens in March, Take Me Home Tonight grossed only $7 million and left theaters in a hurry.

The Take Me Home Tonight soundtrack. Ooh, it was like The Scarlet Pimpernel. Sort of. This ’80s-set ensemble comedy for ‘young people’ was shot back in 2007 before being left to languish on the shelf, then saved from the guillotine of no-release oblivion by Ryan Kavanaugh, the masked baronet of Relativity Media. Hurrah! A pity though that Eddie Money doesn’t seem to have survived the ordeal. His 1986 hit which gives the movie its title is conspicuously absent from this soundtrack, despite having cropped up in the trailer.
Not that there is any shortage of ’80s radio monsters here. This is a paean to pop music’s past, an extended celebration of those hook-laden hits which detractors would rush to peg as lowest common denominator, but which equally can deliver high levels of idiot-grin enjoyment for those willing to check their musical ego at the door. An obvious comparison is to...

You might not expect that Topher Grace (In Good Company, Traffic, Spider-Man 3) would be quick to return to retro comedy after seven seasons on TV's That '70s Show, but lo and behold, the 32-year-old actor both executive produced and co-wrote the story for the '80s-set Take Me Home Tonight (in theaters today): As the summer of 1988 winds down, three friends on the verge of adulthood attend an out-of-control party in celebration of their last night of unbridled youth. Take Me Home Tonight is a raunchy, romantic and ultimately touching blast from the past, set to an awesome soundtrack of timeless rock and hip-hop hits.
Recent MIT grad Matt Franklin (Topher Grace) should be working for a Fortune 500 company and starting his upward climb to full-fledged yuppiehood. Instead, the directionless 23-year-old confounds family and friends by taking a part-time job behind the counter of a video store at the Sherman Oaks Galleria.

After a long spell on the studio shelf, the ’80s set comedy Take Me Home Tonight has become something of a time capsule in and of itself. Each of its young stars has appeared in several projects since. Most shockingly, director Michael Dowse is wrapping up production on his second film since completing production way back in early 2007.
In the throwback comedy, recent MIT graduate Matt (Topher Grace) is at a crossroads. Displeased with his chosen profession, he spends his days working as a lowly clerk in the mall at Suncoast Video. After running into his high school crush, Tori (Teresa Palmer), Matt can’t help but start lying. Playing the part of a customer, he insists that he works for a Fortune 500 investment company in order to win over the girl of his dreams at an end of summer party. Aided by his trouble-making best pal Barry (Dan Fogler...
