- In 2018, Declan won Best Actor in a Leading Role at Amsterdam IFF of World Cinema 2018 for playing hunchback 'Bailey Farrell' in comedy-horror The Gaelic Curse (2016) directed by Jack Conroy (Cinematographer on Oscar Winning Film My Left Foot (1989) and The Field (1990)).
- Studied for a BSc in Psychology in Queens University, Belfast from 1998 to 2001.
- Studied for a MA in Film Studies in University College Dublin (UCD) from 2001-2002. Wrote, directed and produced two short films Jack (2005) (2003), Lose the Booze (2011) (2012) and a feature film The Nightclub Days (2003). Also wrote and produced a comedy web-series Trouble Times Three (2012) (2012) for RTE Storyland which came third out of 86 entries.
- Awarded Arts & Culture 2013 Award by Monaghan County Council for his contribution to the arts in his county with success of comedy webseries 'Trouble Times Three' in RTE Storyland 2012 and short film 'Lose The Booze' (2012).
