Twelve years after releasing the acoustic album Croweology, with a nasty break-up and an unexpected reunion in between, the Black Crowes are finally dropping new music — sort of. “New recordings, old music,” frontman Chris Robinson says with a laugh. He’s referring to 1972, a collection of six freshly recorded cover songs from that year, which will be available exclusively on Amazon Music on May 4. The first single, a sleek version of the Temptations’ “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” is out now.

Steve Gorman, the former drummer of the Black Crowes, is taking his ex-bandmates Chris Robinson and Rich Robinson to court. Gorman, an original member of the Southern roots-rock band who played on the Crowes’ 1990 breakthrough debut Shake Your Money Maker, filed a lawsuit against the Robinsons and “The Black Crowes Partnership” on Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Gorman, who along with the Robinson brothers and bassist Chuck Brandt (a.k.a Johnny Colt) formed a partnership in 1991 to collect royalties for the group, is suing to confirm the accuracy...

The Black Crowes will mark the 30th anniversary of their 1990 debut album Shake Your Money Maker with a deluxe reissue. Set for a February 26th release, the package arrives in multiple formats, including a “super deluxe” edition with unreleased songs, demos, and a raucous concert recording from the band’s early days that finds singer Chris Robinson breaking up a crowd fight mid-song.
In 2019, Chris and his guitar-playing brother Rich Robinson patched up their own notoriously volatile relationship to reform the Black Crowes with new members for a 2020 summer tour.

Joan Osborne will release her first album of all-new material in six years this September. Trouble and Strife is the soul singer’s 10th studio LP and comments on various social issues of life in 2020.
In a statement, Osborne says the album is “a recognition of the important role music has to play in this moment. Music has a unique ability to re-energize people and allow us to continue to hang on to that sense of joy of being alive.”

Former Black Crowes drummer and current Trigger Hippy member Steve Gorman appears as the latest guest on Chris Shiflett’s Walking the Floor podcast, recorded, as all of the recent episodes have been, during quarantine. Gorman talks at length about his tenure with the Black Crowes, as well as the process for writing his honest depiction of that period in his book, Hard to Handle: The Life and Death of the Black Crowes, along with his life after that gig.

Hard to Handle: The Life and Death of the Black Crowes — A Memoir, by Steve Gorman, the band’s former drummer and co-founder (who co-wrote the book with Steven Hyden), is one of the most jaw-droppingly entertaining rock books in years, painting the recently reunited Chris and Rich Robinson as constantly at war, and tragically intent on destroying their own band’s potential. In a new episode of our Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, Gorman (who currently plays in Trigger Hippy) shares some of the most outrageous, tragic and drugged-out...

After months of rumors, the Black Crowes announced a 2020 reunion tour on Monday where they’ll play their 1990 debut LP Shake Your Money Maker straight through at every show along with a set of other hits. Chris and Rich Robinson are the only returning members from any prior incarnation of the band. “That was the first thing Rich and I agreed on,” Chris Robinson told Rolling Stone. “We don’t want anyone from the solo groups. We don’t want anyone from the past.”
They group broke up in early 2015 after years of acrimony.

On the second floor of a Brooklyn recording studio nestled between an ice cream parlor and bridal shop, the Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson is wailing through “Struttin’ Blues,” a deep cut on the group’s 1990 debut album, Shake Your Money Maker. His on-again, off-again bandmate and on-again, off-again brother Rich is two feet away, locking eyes with drummer Raj Ojha as he tears into the muscular blues-rock track.
“It’s just the way it sounded in 1990,” Chris says to no one in particular. “Which was the last time we played that.

As the drummer for the Black Crowes for 27 years, Steve Gorman has seen some shit. He recounts a lot of it in his new book Hard to Handle: The Life & Death of the Black Crowes — A Memoir, a backstage tell-all that features more than a few fights between brothers Chris and Rich Robinson.
“‘You’re gonna have to write the book, man.’ That’s something everybody would say to me,” says Gorman, sipping a coffee in a popular Nashville breakfast spot. “And what I said for 25 years was, ‘Well, I would,...

“At the very least,” Steve Gorman writes in his new tell-all about the Black Crowes, “I can tell you what happened from my point of view.” As the band’s drummer since its nascent days as Mr. Crowe’s Garden up until the Black Crowes’ implosion in 2014, Gorman has seen his share of rock & roll drama from behind the kit. In Hard to Handle: The Life and Death of the Black Crowes — A Memoir, written with Steven Hyden, he distills his 27 years with the group into a satisfying and unexpectedly emotional read.

When Trigger Hippy released their debut album in 2014, the group was more like a loose collective than a cemented band. Chalk that up to the numerous other projects of its members at the time, including co-founders Steve Gorman and Nick Govrik, and Joan Osborne and guitarist Jackie Greene. While Trigger Hippy hit the road in earnest in support of the record, they eventually stalled out and took a long hiatus, leaving the future of the band in doubt.

It’s unlikely that Greta Van Fleet singer Josh Kiszka woke up this morning troubled by all the accusations that he’s copy-and-pasted Robert Plant’s vocal style. Or that his bandmates are too fazed by Pitchfork pegging them as Led Zeppelin–aping hacks in a scathing review of their new debut, Anthem of the Peaceful Army. The album debuted in the Top Five, and many of the shows on a world tour supporting the LP have already sold out. Besides, accusations of shameless musical pilfering have long been a rock & roll rite of passage.
