Mikhail Dorovatovskiy(1924-1995)

Mikhail Dorovatovskiy is a Soviet and Estonian cinematographer, documentary director. Honored Artist of the Estonian SSR.
Born in Leningrad into a family of employees. Since 1943 Dorovatovskiy served in the Red Army, sergeant, participant in the Great Patriotic War. Demobilized in 1945.
After the war, Mikhail studied at the Leningrad Film Technical School (now the St. Petersburg Institute of Film and Television), from which he graduated in 1950. Having started working at the Tallin Film Studio as a sound engineer, he participated in the filming of the feature film Sovetskaya Estoniya (1946) as an assistant to cameraman Vladimir Parvel.
He is the author and cinematographer of many documentaries, as well as stories for film periodicals. His debut in feature films took place in 1962 in the film Õhtust hommikuni (1962). As a cinematographer he made a significant contribution to Estonian feature cinematography. Since the end of 1970, he also made popular science films and was a support for the younger generation of filmmakers in the Estonian SSR.
