The new Disney+ documentary “The Beach Boys” is one in a long line of both documentary and narrative features focusing on The Beach Boys and their associates, many of which have focused on the troubled genius at the band’s center, Brian Wilson. What sets “The Beach Boys” apart is the attention given to the band as a whole; while Brian’s contribution is respectfully acknowledged and explored, his brothers Dennis and Carl get equal time — along with other band members like Mike Love, Al Jardine, and the guest players who rotated in and out of the band. There’s also a rich sense of context in terms of what The Beach Boys meant to their era and to the musicians who came afterward, thanks to a wealth of carefully selected archival footage and contemporary interviews with musicians like Janelle Monae and One Republic’s Ryan Tedder.

Weeks after the tragic death of Johnny Wactor, “General Hospital” paid tribute to its fallen former cast member with an on-air title card shown at the conclusion of the Tuesday, June 11 episode — Wactor portrayed Brando Corbin on the daytime drama series from January 2020 through September 2022.
“In Loving Memory of Johnny Wactor,” read the card, referencing the beloved 37-year-old actor who was shot and killed in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 25 in downtown Los Angeles after three unidentified suspects were allegedly seen trying to steal a catalytic converter from his vehicle.
Wactor and a colleague had just finished working a shift at a local bar when they discovered the theft. Initially, Wactor thought his vehicle was being towed, but he soon realized what was truly going on.

The 51st Daytime Emmys brought fashion and wins to the stage.
CBS hosted the event, allowing it to be televised live for viewers to revel in what their favorite soap stars were wearing and what they were doing.
The nominations this year were all over the board, and while we had our predictions, we weren’t sure who would actually take home the coveted awards.
In a year affected by writers’ strikes, scribes wrote some of the material the actors worked with and did a good job making it their own.
While there are varying opinions about who won each category, only one can take home the statue.
Here’s which soaps won each category tailored to the genre.
Who won a Daytime Emmy?
Some categories didn’t offer an actor or actress for a particular soap. But without further do, here is a list of winners in the soap-centric categories.

A little over a year ago, Showtime announced that they were ordering a series – then known as Dexter: Origins, now known as Dexter: Original Sin – that would serve as a prequel series to their popular show Dexter, which finished its eight season initial run back in 2013, then recently came back for a new season (called Dexter: New Blood) that appeared to wrap things up for good… for the title character, anyway. Now they’re assembling the cast for Dexter: Original Sin, and The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Christina Milian (Falling Inn Love), James Martinez (Love Victor), Alex Shimizu (The Blacklist), and Reno Wilson (Mike & Molly) have all been cast as characters with names that will be familiar to Dexter fans.
Milian, Martinez, and Shimizu are all playing younger versions of characters that viewers have met before. As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “Milian will portray Maria Laguerta, the role previously portrayed by Lauren Velez.

Dexter: Original Sin is rounding out the ranks of Miami Metro.
James Martinez (Love Victor), Christina Milian (Falling Inn Love) and Alex Shimizu (The Blacklist) have been tapped to play younger versions of some of the key cops previously featured in the original Dexter, while Reno Wilson (Mike & Molly) will play a previously name-checked character that was never seen onscreen in the flagship series.
Originally ordered to series in February 2023 and titled Dexter: Origins, Original Sin is set in 1991 Miami and revolves around Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he goes from student to avenging serial killer. With guidance from his father, Harry (Christian Slater), Dexter adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people without being discovered by law enforcement at the same time as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
Martinez will take over the role of Angel Batista, played in the original series by David Zayas.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson vowed to change the "hierarchy of power" within the Dceu with 2022's Black Adam. The movie was meant to be a fan-pleasing blockbuster which launched a new version of this shared world that, in Johnson's eyes, revolved around his anti-hero.
He reportedly went behind the backs of executives to bring Henry Cavill back as Superman, refused to share the screen with Zachary Levi's Shazam, and hoped to launch everything from a Justice Society movie to Hawkman as part of a slate he and Seven Bucks Productions would oversee.
Black Adam proved to be a mess of a movie with murky visuals and hit-and-miss CGI. Crucially, box office numbers weren't good, reviews were even worse, and Johnson soured people on this already struggling franchise enough to impact 2023's Dceu titles negatively.

The Los Angeles Police Department is asking the public for tips in the tragic shooting death of General Hospital actor Johnny Wactor Saturday.
In a news release confirming earlier accounts of the crime, the LAPD said today that, based on witness statements, 37-year-old John William Wactor had ended his shift as a bartender at a local bar and was walking to his vehicle when “he was confronted by three individuals who had Wactor’s vehicle raised up with a floor jack and were in the process of stealing the catalytic converter.”
“Without provocation, the victim was shot by one of the individuals,” police said. “The three suspects involved were wearing all dark clothing and driving a dark colored sedan. The suspects fled northbound on Hope St. Central Bureau Homicide is investigating this case and is requesting the public’s help.”
While the police statement mentions a witness, the LAPD has not confirmed the witness’ identity.

Eric Weinberg, a veteran writer-producer on the TV show “Scrubs,” was ordered on Tuesday to stand trial on 28 charges of rape and sexual assault.
Weinberg, 63, who also wrote on “Californication” and “Politically Incorrect” with Bill Maher, faces multiple life sentences if convicted.
Judge Charlaine Olmedo heard testimony from nine women at a preliminary hearing that ran for more than two weeks in late April and early May. The women told similar stories of being approached by Weinberg in public places, where he asked if they were interested in modeling.
Many of the women testified that agreed to meet Weinberg at his home, where he would begin to take photos. At some point, the encounter would become sexual, as Weinberg either began to remove their clothing or groped himself.
Several of the women — identified in court as Jane Does — said they became terrified when they realized the photo shoot was just...

Modern procedurals are moving more and more towards realism. If fifteen years ago even viewers could understand that the scenes shown to them looked completely unrealistic and unreliable, in today's projects the discrepancy with reality is often noticed only by the professionals themselves.
The creators of series about paramedics and police officers invite special consultants to the set, such as retired police officers, who regulate the actions of the characters so that they look as realistic as possible.
However, no matter how much the level of authenticity has increased in recent years, the procedural TV shows still cannot be considered completely reliable.
Chicago Fire Focuses Heavily on Personal Stories of First Responders
Chicago Fire is not just about firefighters and paramedics, it is about the entire flawed system of the Chicago Fire Department. Bureaucracy, waste of budget, deception of taxpayers, conflicts with superiors and everything that gets in the way of saving lives.

My head is still spinning from everything that just transpired.
Seriously, if The Rookie Season 6 Episode 9 didn't do anything else, it would have set the stage for a positively explosive season finale.
The hour was all gas and no brakes. So many names were thrown at us that it was hard to keep up, and with so many moving pieces, it was like watching a chess championship.
Listen, we know The Rookie can do season finales right, and if this hour was any indication, we're gearing up for another epic one.
But as jampacked and head-spinning as this installment was, I'd be remiss if I didn't wonder where this was throughout the season.
The shortened seasons have been more curse than blessing for so much of the series that we've come to enjoy.
While The Rookie Season 6 has some solid episodes and the cast always rises to the occasion to entertain us,...

Pinewood Studios has sold its minority stake in the Dominican Republic’s horizon water tank facility, which has been renamed Lantica Studios after its now sole owner, Lantica Media.
Formerly known as the Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios, Lantica Studios is undertaking the building of a fourth soundstage, measuring 16,000 sq.ft., and two additional workshop spaces of 12,000 sq. ft each, mainly dedicated to housing camera, grip and electric equipment vendors. These are set to open by the Spring of 2025.
The landmark expansion comes as the 10-year-old studio has seen record growth in international and local production, which has led to the availability of more skilled crew in the Dominican Republic (Dr), either trained on the job or in regularly held workshops. “We’ve grown from hiring locals at an average rate of 400 – 500 a year to 2,000 a year,” said Albert Martinez, CEO of Lantica Studios.

Nigerian chess champion Tunde Onakoya raised more than $120,000 livestreaming himself breaking the Guinness World Record for longest chess marathon.
Onakoya, who is 29 years old and founded the education charity Chess in Slums Africa in 2018, arrived in New York City’s Times Square April 17 with the intention of beating Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad‘s previous record of 56 hours, 9 minutes and 37 seconds.
His endeavor was supported by U.S. chess champion Shawn Martinez, who played him for the entire 60 hours (and thus has also broken the record). Both competitors were allowed to take five-minute breaks after each hour of gameplay, but otherwise had to keep gaming continuously for their time to be counted toward the record.
The pair ended up pushing for four further hours after breaking the record, finally ending at 60 hours. “We’re pushing to 60 hours, guys,” Onakoya tweeted after he and Martinez had broken the record. “We’re not stopping yet.

On April 26, Clint Howard will make his debut on The Bold and the Beautiful as Tom, a homeless man who Deacon (Sean Kanan) and Finn (Tanner Novlan) encounter in their pursuit of solving a mystery. For the veteran performer, adding the credit to his resumé was a welcome change. “This is a surprising turn of events for me,” Howard admits. “I have never been a big soap opera guy, but to be on The Bold and the Beautiful, that’s a notch in my gun belt.” This isn’t Howard’s first time on a soap — he appeared on Santa Barbara as a character named Marshall for a handful of episodes in 1987. His most vivid memory of the experience was working alongside A Martinez (ex-Cruz Castillo). “A Martinez was an actor that I worked with a long, long time ago, in the mid-’70s, on a TV series called The Cowboys,...

Melanie Martinez showed support for Palestine during her concert in Paris on Sunday by bringing the country’s flag on stage, and her microphone cut out as it was being unfurled.
The incident took place toward the end of the singer’s performance at Zénith Paris – La Villette on Sunday (November 26th). After leaving the stage, she also displayed the following message on the screen: “Free Palestine. Ceasefire now.” It’s unclear whether there is a connection between Martinez raising the flag and her sound being cut.
See the fan-shot footage below. At the time of publishing, Martinez and Zénith Paris have yet to comment on the matter.
Tensions are especially high during the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. At least 1,200 Israelis were killed during an October 7th Hamas attack on Israel, while a reported 13,300 Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s declaration of war and subsequent bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

Throughout the happenings at Princeton in 1955, there's an insidious feeling that Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 6 will grow in significance as the season progresses.
On the surface, it's an exciting quest adventure, marrying the historical enchantment of the National Treasure franchise with the life-threatening pursuit by universal baddies of the Indiana Jones adventures.
But it also includes several pivotal moments for Ben and the Quantum Leap team as the secret of time travel has been revealed, and major events are set in motion.
Of course, there have canonically been others who have known about Ziggy and Quantum Leap. The O.G. series had Lothos and its Evil Leapers. Even Quantum Leap Season 1 had Martinez and his murderous military/government bosses. And, of course, there's Janis and Beth Cavalicci.
But sharing the secret of quantum time travel has always been understood by the team as something they cannot share outside the inner circle,...
