Ierardi teamed with Bo Youngblood in 2019 to launch Showdown Productions, a production company whose mission is to produce material with a strong artistic vision that provides critical commentary on diverse social issues.
The company, where he serves as an executive, most recently wrapped production on the Will Wernick-directed pool hall drama Break, starring Victor Rasuk and Jeff Kober, as well as the thriller In Flight, which Ierardi co-wrote from his own story. Sony Pictures Classics is set to release awards contender The Father in select New York and Los Angeles theaters today before expanding nationwide March 12 before landing on PVOD on March 26. That’s quite a theater-to-digital journey for the Florian Zeller-directed drama starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman.
The film, which premiered at Sundance in 2020, is adapted from Zeller’s 2014 play which starred Frank Langella, who won a Tony Award his performance. Zeller and Christopher Hampton adapted the play which follows Anthony (Hopkins), a defiant 80-year-old man who lives alone and refuses the carers that his daughter, Anne (Colman), encouragingly introduces — and she needs the help. She can’t make daily visits to her father and his grip on reality is unraveling.
The Father marks Zeller feature directorial debut — and what a debut it is.
The film has received critical acclaim and received numerous Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations.

One of the sleeper hits of the shutdown last year was Rob Savage’s British horror “Host,” a very short (just under an hour) and sweetly scary tale of friends whose weekly Zoom call during Covid quarantine gets crashed by an unwelcome supernatural visitor. It was, however, bound to be the exception which proved a preexisting rule: that found-footage thrillers remain a tapped-out genre, no matter if one in every 20 or so manages to squeeze some new life from the form.
Unfortunately, we’re likely to get a lot more in the mode of “Safer at Home,” which likewise hinges on friends video-conferencing during shutdown. Will Wernick’s film not only fails to use that format in clever or suspenseful ways, it blows the basics of maintaining plausibility and viewer interest. You have to admire filmmakers finding ways to keep plugging away within pandemic restrictions. But not every story is suited for Zoom-style presentation,...

The Vigil: "Steeped in ancient Jewish lore and demonology, The Vigil is supernatural horror film set over the course of a single evening in Brooklyn's Hasidic Borough Park neighborhood. Low on funds and having recently left his insular religious community, Yakov (Dave Davis) reluctantly accepts an offer from his former rabbi and confidante (Menashe Lustig) to take on the responsibility of an overnight "shomer," fulfilling the Jewish practice of watching over the body of a deceased community member. Shortly after arriving at the recently departed's dilapidated house to sit the vigil, Yakov begins to realize that something is very, very wrong."

"Tell me what to do? What do I do?!" Vertical Entertainment has released the official trailer for Safer At Home, yet another new pandemic-inspired Zoom thriller written and filmed during the pandemic last year. This is the latest from filmmaker Will Wernick, who last directed the two escape room films Escape Room and No Escape just before this. Two years into the pandemic, a group of friends throw an online party with a night of games, drinking and drugs. After taking an ecstasy pill, things go terribly wrong and the safety of their home becomes more terrifying than the raging chaos outside. Sounds a little too crazy to be any good. The films stars Jocelyn Hudon, Emma Lahana, Alisa Allapach, Adwin Brown, Dan J. Johnson, Michael Kupisk, and Daniel Robaire. This looks super cheesy and extra fake, just doesn't seem worth it. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Will Wernick's Safer At Home,...

So if you're a horror movie fan and still rewatch episodes with Toby from Pll, you'll probably want to add this latest film to your weekend watch list. When writer/director/producer Will Wernick's sophomore effort Escape Room was released in 2017, the movie did well enough internationally that Wernick found himself at the helm of a sequel.
No Escape is not the direct sequel that the project started out as, but Wernick's new movie blends two popular concepts, escape rooms, and influencer culture, into a kind of sandwich that begins and ends really interestingly but falls into your typical horror movie in the second act.
The driving force of No Escape, and the reason the movie's forgettable second act doesn't completely derail the movie, is Keegan Allen who plays the charismatic Cole, a social media superstar who, with a few of his less internet-famous friends, heads to M...

A new trailer for the movie No Escape has been released today. Seen above, it promises dank, torturous and nasty things being done to annoying twenty-somethings.
The plot follows a popular internet vlogger specializing in extreme challenges as he travels to Moscow with his friends to attempt the ultimate escape room, only for the experience to become a little too real and dangerous as sinister machinations are gradually revealed.
On the subject of escape rooms, writer-director Will Wernick was behind one of the glut of Escape Room horror movies to have come out over the last few years after a dozen creators all had the same idea, and just to make things as confusing as possible, this film was previously titled Follow Me in reference to the influencer protagonist, and is still listed on IMDb as such.

"As real as everything might seem... you're safe." Vertical Ent. has released a trailer for a horror film titled No Escape, the latest from filmmaker Will Wernick. Wernick directed a 2017 horror called Escape Room, which is not the same as the Sony Pictures horror Escape Room, but they all have the same concept anyway. One of those "escape room" games turns out to be deadly. This time, the story follows a narcissistic vlogger / influencer who ends up traveling to Moscow with his friends to visit a special escape room. "Always pushing the limits and catering to a growing audience, they enter a cold world of mystery, excess, and danger." This stars Keegan Allen, Holland Roden, Denzel Whitaker, Ronen Rubinstein, Pasha Lychnikoff, George Janko, and Siya. Everything in this looks derivative - every scene is ripped off from other horror. Cate Blanchett in ‘Where’d You Go Bernadette?’
In the pre-covid-19 world, Where’d You Go Bernadette?, a drama starring Cate Blanchett, Billy Crudup, Kristen Wiig and newcomer Emma Nelson, was launched in the US last year by United Artists Releasing, playing widely on more than 2,400 screens.
The Richard Linklater-directed adaptation of Maria Semple’s 2012 novel made a decent $US3.2 million in its first weekend and ended up with $US9.2 million.
In the current depressed cinema market in Australia, the movie following Blanchett as a reclusive architect who leaves her family in Seattle and heads to Antarctica, opened on 40 screens, delivering a modest $62,000 for Universal Pictures last weekend.
Blame the market – especially the closure of Melbourne’s cinemas, which account for 27 per cent of the national Bo and potentially up to 40 per cent of the takings for an upscale release like Linklater’s, rather than the movie.
