- Drafted 5th overall in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals. Scored 196 regular season goals with 712 assists for 908 points in 24 years for the Capitals, St. Louis Blues and New Jersey Devils. Won the Stanley Cup with the Devils in 1995, 2000, and 2003.
- NHL Records: Most career games played by a defenseman; most career playoff games played by a defenseman; youngest player to play in 1,500th career game; most career games played by a player on a winning team (879); most career playoff Game 7 appearances.
- Scored a goal on his first shot in his first NHL game.
- Played for the Washington Capitals, St Louis Blues and the New Jersey Devils, from 1982-2004.
