The 12th Annual New York Indian Film Festival (Nyiff), presented by the Indo-American Arts Council announced the nominations for various categories of awards.
The festival will be held from May 23 to 27 at the Tribeca Cinemas in Lower Manhattan.
Nyiff will more than 50 features, documentaries, and short films over a span of five days.

There aren’t many literary adaptations in Indian cinema these days. So an effort to render Nirmal Verma’s stories on celluloid is a welcome endeavor. However, it is also a tad too ambitious. The stories that are simple yet delve into the complexities of human relationships may appear visually-oriented, but to hold them together cinematically via an engaging narrative demands much more than an adept ensemble cast. This is where Chaurahen disappoints: it limits itself to a high-flown, philosophical montage of scenes where it is difficult to identify with or feel for any of the characters. After Sudhish Kamath’s Good Night Good Morning, the next film to release under PVR Director’s Rare banner will be Rajshree Ojha’s Chaurahen (Crossroads).
Ojha made this film before her Bollywood debut Aisha in 2010. It travelled to several film festivals in 2007 like South Asian International Film Festival – New York, Mumbai International Film Festival (Mami), Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival and Cairo International Film Festival among others.
The film stars Soha Ali Khan, Ankur Khanna, Victor Banerjee, Kiera Chaplin, Roopa Ganguly, Zeenat Aman, Shayan Munshi, Karthik Kumar, Suchitra Pillai, Arundathi Nag, Nedumudi Venu and Siddharth Makkad. Kiera Chaplin, who is the grand daughter of the legendary comedian Charlie Chaplin makes her debut in Indian cinema with Chaurahen.

It’s been quite sometime since we heard from the Bengali beauty Raima Sen, but now she is back. Reports suggest that Raima has bagged the female lead role in tanuja Chandra’s next film. The upcoming flick will see raima pair up with Rajeev Khandelwal of Aamir fame. During a recent interview raima told us that she was at the I-View Film Festival promoting her film Mirch, when she got a call from tanuja Chandra about the role.
The actress is pretty excited about the new project and is looking forward to working with Rajeev Khandelwal. Raima has not read the script yet but she informed us that the movie will be a thriller bordering on the supernatural. The movie is scheduled to go on the floors by December this year and the shooting schedule will be over by January next year.

Abhishek Sharma a.k.a Benji from ‘Mile Jab Hum Tum’ has switched the lane. He has recently bagged a film called ‘Admission Open’. It is directed by a fresh director Satyam, also starring Ankur Khanna. Abhishek is playing second lead in the film.
19-year-old is striking the perfect balance between the film and serial. “I am very fortunate to have ‘Mile Jab Hum Tum’ team. They have been very co-operative in adjusting my dates”, he shares. This film is due for release by the end of August or around Diwali.
