One of TV's best comfort watches is back this Sunday, just in time to offer an alternative to the recent spate of wintry murder mysteries. The Great North kicks off its fourth season on January 7 with an episode that features so much of what makes it such an endearing and quirkily funny show.
"Bad Speecher Adventure" sees Ham (Paul Rust) spiraling out about an upcoming assignment in his public speaking class. As is usually the case on this show, he turns to his family for help. What he gets instead are three sample speeches, each one a familiar movie parody that shows off the series’s command of pop culture references and its own well-drawn characters.

Plot: Charles is a womanizer while Elaine is a gold digger. The duo learn humanity when forced to team up and pursue robot doubles of themselves.
Review: Romantic comedies tend to be wholesome and enjoyable without any sort of pertinent social message. The same goes for the typical raunchy sex comedy. Rarely are these two sub-genres seen bundled together, least of all with a science fiction twist. The new film Robots, starring Jack Whitehall and Shailene Woodley, is both a sex comedy and a romantic one but with a sci-fi angle that is all packaged together into a relevant social message about the immigration reform in the United States. If that sounds like a heavy subject matter, rest assured that it delivers a coherent and funny message that may not be quite as strong as the filmmakers hoped. Nevertheless, Robots is a unique blend of styles that is heartfelt and funny.

The Bob of "Bob's Burgers" (H. Jon Benjamin) is something of a sad sack — a small business owner who often finds himself teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. Despite his perpetual exhaustion, he finds time to invent new hamburger recipes, and his restaurant often displays his latest cleverly named entrée. He has a wife named Linda (John Roberts) who is relentlessly upbeat, and always eager to help others, even if her ideas often skew odd. Their daughter Tina (Dan Mintz) is stone-faced but secretly burns with lust for her junior high classmates ... and zombies. Their son Gene (Eugene Mirman) rotates through bizarre obsessions like they're pieces of gum, and their youngest, Louise (Kristen Schaal), has taken the role of the clan's precocious leader and is never seen without her pink hat with bunny ears.
They are unusual people, the Belcher family. They often bicker and not a day goes by without one of them screaming.

Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, Wendy Molyneux, and Minty Lewis made something special with "The Great North," an animated sitcom about the adventures of Tobin family from Lone Moose, Alaska. Patriarch Beef Tobin (Nick Offerman) is a single dad raising his children Ham (Paul Rust), Judy (Jenny Slate), and Moon (Aparna Nancherla), while his adult son Wolf (Will Forte) and his wife Honeybee (Dulcé Sloan) live in the guest house on site.
