An ensemble cast that includes Stephen Curry, Robbie Magasiva, Rowan Witt, Katrina Milosevic, Ryan Shelton, Zahra Newman, Tina Bursill and Richard Piper will join English actress Katherine Parkinson in comedy series Spreadsheet, now shooting in Melbourne for Paramount+.
The Northern Pictures production, first announced in May, marks one of the ViacomCBS platform’s first locally commissioned originals.
Created and written by Kala Ellis, it follows Lauren (Parkinson), a divorced mother of two looking for sex without commitment. With the help of best friend Alex (Witt), she develops “Spreadsheet”: a database of sex options, customised to ensure her sushi train of sex rolls around with variety and order amidst the chaos of her life. What Lauren didn’t expect was a slew of needy men, which apparently even a well-managed excel tracker can’t control.

Science+, a pilot from creator/producer Seaton-Kay Smith (Alphabet Street), producer Yingna Lu (Tangles and Knots) and director Leela Varghese, premiered this morning on Dust, a US-based platform from Gunpowder & Sky, dedicated to science-fiction and boasting more than 3 million viewers 18-35 years old.
Supported by Screen Australia, the 10-minute episode follows Matt (Akkshey Caplash), who accidentally shrinks himself and is captured by the ants whom he has unwittingly been squashing. He must find a way to escape their clutches and their impending death sentence.
The creatives talked to If about pulling it together.
What’s the genesis of ‘Science+;?
Seaton: I love sci-fi, and I wanted to write something that incorporated all my favourite elements from those classic sci-fi films – shrink rays, teleportation devices, time travel, etc. – but wanted to bring them into a straight realistic world. I was also working at an agency writing how to videos for...

Dop Emma Paine with Laura Nagy on the set of ‘Hook Up’ (Photo credit: Narika Mckenzie)
Laura Nagy first met Ian Collie when she was a casting coordinator on Doctor Doctor and he later hired her as his assistant at Essential Media in 2017.
Spotting her potential, Collie asked Laura to follow him and colleagues Rachael Turk and Tanya Phegan when he departed to launch Easy Tiger in 2018.
He then asked the emerging filmmaker to join the Easy Tiger development team, where the 2010 Aftrs graduate is nurturing several projects. “Laura is an absolute gem and multi-skilled – a filmmaker in her own right,” Collie tells If.
Laura says: “I am queer and I started writing those stories because a lot of it was exploring things I felt in my real life and wasn’t necessarily talking about.
“Once I started doing it, it got easier and people keep asking me to do it,...

Tania Lambert shoots a Toyota Tvc.
If speaks to cinematographers Anna Howard, Tania Lambert, Katie Milwright, Mandy Walker, Bonnie Elliott, Emma Paine, Velinda Wardell, Sky Davies and Ashley Barron about rising up the ranks, the gender gap and the DPs that inspire them.
No woman has ever won the Oscar for best cinematography. In fact, no woman has ever been nominated. In Australia, Abs statistics to 2011 put the percentage of female directors of photography at around 6 percent. Were you aware of the gender divide at the beginning of your career?
Lambert: I was keenly aware of the gender imbalance in the camera department when I first started as a camera assistant. It didn.t bother me a huge deal, but I felt I had to work extra hard to be respected in that role. There were only a few female camera assistants I knew of and one female Dop, Anna Howard,...

.I remember hearing her pitch [Zelos] in class and just being like, .let.s do that together,.. Brechin told If.
They formed a pact to make the film when Harris finished the screenplay; a vision that has now come to fruition, with Zelos.currently in post.
