Max’s “Warrior,” a breakthrough series boasting one of the few Asian ensembles on television, has been canceled after three seasons. The series’ repeats will live on, however, via a off-net deal with Netflix, which has acquired the series’ run in a non-exclusive deal and could now potentially expose it to a new audience. (The show will also continue to be available on Max.)
“Warrior” returned for its third season in June after a two-year hiatus. The show originally ran on linear cabler Cinemax (starting in 2019), and was revived after a fan base campaign. Andrew Koji, Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Dianne Doan, Kieran Bew, Dean Jagger, Tom Weston-Jones, Hoon Lee, Perry Yung, Langley Kirkwood, Miranda Raison, Chen Tang, Chelsea Muirhead, Mark Dacascos and Joe Taslim star.
Shannon Lee is among the executive producers on “Warrior,” which was based on a concept by her father, Bruce Lee. Per the logline, “‘Warrior...

Warrior won’t be returning for a fourth season on Max.
However, the existing three seasons of the martial arts crime drama are set to find additional audiences as Netflix has picked up the series’ library in a co-exclusive deal with Max in Warner Bros. Discovery streamer’s markets.
Warrior is expected to debut on Netflix in February 2024. If it does well, Netflix could presumably order a new season of the drama based on an original concept and treatment by Bruce Lee, sources tell Deadline exclusively.
This latest move sets Warrior in its third home in as many years. Midway through a sword fight in an upcoming episode of Max’s period action drama Warrior, one of the combatants loses her blade and seems on the verge of death at the hands of the man she wants revenge against. He’s so confident in his abilities, though, that he invites her to pick up her weapon and resume, smugly telling her, “You came all this way. It would be a shame to give up now.”
For a while, it seemed that the TV business had given up on Warrior.

“To hell with circumstances. I create opportunities.” Bruce Lee
Max’s Warrior began as an eight-page TV treatment by Bruce Lee which was completely rejected by the networks. Nearly a half-century later, Shannon Lee revitalized her father’s idea for development by Cinemax and enlisted noted director Justin Lin and screenwriter Jonathan Tropper to create the pilot. In 2019 Cinemax picked up Warrior for one season and its freshman outing won many accolades for its inclusivity and representation, coupled with kick ass action. Warrior was hailed as a rare homegrown tentpole series for Cinemax and got renewed for a second season.

Courtesy of Netflix © 2022 Spanning 25 years, Kaleidoscope (previously titled Jigsaw) is an all-new anthology series following a crew of masterful thieves and their attempt to crack a seemingly unbreakable vault for the biggest payday in history. Guarded by the world’s most powerful corporate security team, and with law enforcement on the case, every episode reveals a piece of an elaborate puzzle of corruption, greed, vengeance, scheming, loyalties and betrayals. How did the crew of thieves plan it? Who gets away with it? Who can be trusted? Loosely inspired by the real-life story where seventy billion dollars in bonds went missing in downtown Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy, Kaleidoscope consists of eight episodes spanning from 24 years before the heist to 6 months after.

The darkly comic crime drama follows a charismatic criminal named Serge Storms who suffers a range of mental illnesses that render him compulsive, paranoid and frequently homicidal.
A strong sense of justice and rigid moral compass make him an antidote to Tampa, Florida's ethically-challenged crooks, miscreants and coked-up kingpins.

TV's been attempting to mine the tech boom for material, with several series about the industry's past and present having cropped up in development recently. E! considered for one of its first scripted venture the Kevin Spacey-produced "Upstarts," which would take a look at the "digital gold rush" of the late '90s, while Bravo went the reality route with the since-canceled "Start-Ups: Silicon Valley." HBO has ordered a Silicon Valley-set comedy from Mike Judge comedy to series, and AMC's upcoming "Halt & Catch Fire" is set in the '80s in Texas' Silicon Prairie. But "Betas," the second original series from Amazon slated to go live with its first three episodes this Friday, is the first of this bunch out of the gate, a Bay Area-set comedy from newcomers Evan Endicott and Josh Stoddard about a group of guys and their lone female Smurfette who are trying to...

The four senators-turned-unlikely-roommates of Alpha House and the endearing, young tech industry entrepreneurs of Betas come back to Amazon Prime Instant Video in 11-episode series. Alpha House debuts November 15 and Betas will follow on November 22.
Alpha House, which was written by Academy Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize-winner Garry Trudeau and produced by Trudeau, Elliot Webb and Jonathan Alter, is a comedy about four misfit senators (John Goodman, Clark Johnson, Matt Malloy and Mark Consuelos) who rent a house together in Washington D.C. The roomies are joined by Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City), Amy Sedaris (Strangers with Candy), Wanda Sykes (Curb Your Enthusiasm), and Julie White (Go On), who share in the outrageous—and sometimes all-too-real—follies of Washington politics.

Five new shows are coming to Amazon.
Comedy "Alpha House," "Betas" and three children's series -- Annebots," "Creative Galaxy" and "Tumbleaf" -- will all become full series on Amazon's Prime Instant Video later this year and in early 2014.
The Amazon shows were posted with several other comedy pilots for public viewing and Amazon said it would decide which pilots would become the company's first foray into original programming based on viewer feedback and streams.
"We are thrilled at the enthusiastic customer response to our first original pilots," Roy Price, director of Amazon Studios, said in a statement. "We built Amazon Studios so that customers could help decide which stories would make the very best movies and TV shows. With the recent release of House of Cards and Hemlock Grove, Netflix has established serious interest in the original programming market. Amazon, another major player in online streaming services with Prime Instant Video, has made the first major step to follow suit. Late last week, 16 pilots were made available for free streaming on Amazon – 8 comedies and 6 children’s series. Most buzz has surrounded the pilot for Zombieland, a series written by the creators of the 2009 film of the same name. But some of the other pilots feature experienced production and acting credits (notably John Goodman in Alpha House and Jeffrey Tambor in Onion News Empire). Amazon is letting viewers fill out mini-surveys for each pilot as a means of collecting feedback to help decide whether or not a series gets picked up for a full season. Sound On Sight is here to offer some feedback for the comedy pilots:

AmazonStudios is taking a more unusual approach by letting viewers decide what they want to keep watching. The company has kicked off its screening process this weekend by unveiling its inaugural slate of 14 pilots — eight comedies and six kids shows, all made available for free on AmazonInstant Video, LoveFilm UK and LoveFilm Germany. Viewers are being invited to watch the pilots and Amazon is welcoming feedback from its audience. According to Deadline, the company will evaluate feedback from an online panel recruited on Amazon preview as well as traditional offline focus groups to decide if they greenlight a series or not. The highest-profile series is Zombieland, but the two that look most interesting are Alpha House, starring John Goodman with cameos by Bill Murray and Stephen Colbert; and Onion News Empire. Amazon has not yet decided how many of the shows will make the cut, nor when they will premiere.
