Beginning next year, Adhesive Games' gloriously good looking mech combat game will be getting a pretty spiffy-looking live-action web series from Warner Premiere and DJ2 Entertainment. The series stars Edi Gathegi, Gonzalo Menendez, Dameon Clark, and Hannah Hall, and is directed by Gears of War art director Jeremiah O'Flaherty, his first live-action credit.
Based on the trailer, it looks like a squad of mech pilots will be tasked with seeking out a missing VIP who has the secret to curing the Hawken virus which has decimated the planet with crystalline structures.
The Hawken web series will debut on Machinima's YouTube channel in 2013.

Check out this incredibly cool live-action trailer for the video game Hawken. Even if you don't know what Hawken is, you should still watch this! This is the first of a series of digital shorts that we will see. They were directed by Gears of War creative director Jeremiah O'Flaherty. There's some great designs and it's a solid combination of live-action and CGI. I love how the mech armor was done.
Hawken is a mech-based first-person shooter. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic human-colonized planet industrialized to the point of collapse, in which the hunt for resources has become a battle for survival. Four game modes are planned for release: team deathmatch, free-for-all deathmatch, "siege" and another yet-specified unique team game mode; Khang Le has said that they also want to do a co-op"Horde" game mode, resource- and time-permitting. Seven to eight unique maps have been planned for the game on release,...

Footage leaked online from an aborted film has reinvigorated demand to see the 80s cartoon at feature length. Is it worth it?
Back in 2007, when the runaway box-office success of Transformers taught Hollywood that there was big money to be made in the forceful molestation of cherished childhood memories, it seemed as if no 80s cartoon would be safe from its grubby advances. There would soon be a Voltron movie, we were told. And a ThunderCats movie. And a GI Joe movie. And a He-Man movie directed by John Woo.
Of these, only 2009's little-loved GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra ever saw the light of day. Both Voltron and the (now Woo-less) He-Man film remain stuck in development hell, while ThunderCats had been permanently put out to pasture. Video game art director Jerry O'Flaherty started work on a CGI ThunderCats movie a few years ago but, thanks to the forthcoming rebooted cartoon series,...

Way back in July 2009, almost a full year before the new "ThunderCats" animated series was announced, some concept art hit the 'net from the scrapped "ThunderCats" movie that was originally intended to bring the characters form the beloved 1980s series to the big screen. Now, some test footage from the "ThunderCats" movie has also found its way online — and it offers our first, in-action look at the movie that might've been.
Posted over at Flixist, the footage shows Lion-o practicing with the Sword of Omens, only to be interrupted by the reptilian villain Slithe (who also sports a new look for the CGI film) and dropping the sword. After brawling a bit on the side of a canyon, Lion-o recovers the Sword of Omens and issues the familiar "Thunder... Thunder... ThunderCats... Ho!" call.
The film's new "ThunderCats" logo is then revealed, and when the action resumes, Lion-o is crouching over Slithe's unconscious body.

Fede Álvarez caused a stir and got a movie deal with this awesome short, and Carl Erik Rinsch did the same with this similarly extraordinary piece . Seems the web is giving young talented filmmakers a hell of a platform, and the cream of the crop is rising. A friend tipped me to this one: Could the young and gifted Jerry O'Flaherty be the next filmmaker to convince Hollywood he's ready to handle more? Check out the trailer he made for his project Samurai . It's important to note that it's a "no-budget piece shot in two days with a volunteer cast of five people." Pretty impressive if you ask me. What else you got Mr. O'Flaherty? Samurai from Jerry O'Flaherty on Vimeo....

With technology pioneered by Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, many films have succeeded in the mainstream. Sin City, Zack Snyder's 300, the list goes on.
Now, director Jerry O'Flaherty (who worked as the art director for the Gears of War video game franchise) has created a low budget trailer showing off this technique applied to a story of an embattled samurai warrior. The film was shot over a two-day period with five actors over a white background, and the rest is digitally rendered using the Unreal 3 video game engine. The film is called Samurai, and it depicts the age old battle between "ninjas vs. samurai."
Check out the trailer and let us know if you think O'Flaherty will leave his mark on the martial arts movie genre.

Remember the days when describing a film as looking like a video game was a negative thing? Well, Jerry O'Flaherty is about to change that forever. O'Flaherty rose to fame directing the cinematics and handling art direction on the hit video game Gears of War and he's now using that experience on his feature film debut Samurai - a film that is being shot 300 style with the backgrounds generated by the Unreal video game engine. Yes, you read that right. Instead of Hollywood using video games as source material for shoddy remakes they are now using video games to create original films. Here's the full story:
This proof of concept trailer was created by Jerry O'Flaherty, the Gears of War art director. We're developing a samurai vs ninja action movie in a 300 style using the Unreal 3 game engine to render the props and environments. This was a no-budget piece shot...

Okay, this is just another one of those fantastic proof-of-concept trailers, but it really is awesome and I've got to share it with you guys today. Twitch has debuted a promo trailer for a project called Samurai that will be the directorial debut of Jerry O'Flaherty, who has worked for years as the art director on Epic's Gears of War video game series. They're developing a samurai vs ninja action movie using hyper-stylized action straight from Zack Snyder's 300. But the kicker is that they're using the Unreal 3 video game engine to render the props and environments. And it's pretty damn impressive to see, although it's not in high def. Watch the early proof-of-concept trailer for Jerry O'Flaherty's Samurai: This trailer for Samurai (seen above) was a "no-budget piece shot in two days with a volunteer cast of five people against a white background. Teaser posters for "Transformers 3" and "The Green Hornet" have been displayed at Licensing International Expo and a Comic Book Movie scooper manages to snap the images. The picture of the third "Transformers" film puts its highlight on an Autobot, which seems to be Optimus Prime.
Promoting the film, Paramount Pictures also brings a full sized replica of Bumblebee in both robot and car forms. This follow-up to "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" which will have new leading lady Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is slated for July 1, 2011 U.S. release.
In the meantime, the poster from the Seth Rogen-directed movie captures both the titular character and his vehicle. A trailer for the film has also been screened at the Expo on Tuesday, June 8, but it reportedly was not received "too well". Starring Rogen and Jay Chou, this film has been pushed back from December 22 this year to January 14, 2011 to get 3-D treatment.

We know already that Transformers is big business. We're about to find out if G.I. Joe can accomplish the same thing. And then down the road we'll see a new He-Man movie and ThunderCats, as well. Movieline has scored a glimpse at new concept art from that film, and then ruined it with the most gawdawful website watermark I've ever seen.
Beyond that, though, you do get a good look at what the movie might look like. Movieline says they come from art director Jerry O'Flaherty, who might be in line to direct the film, which currently has no concrete timetable. But if it's as ambitious as some of the concept art, we might be waiting a while.
As for what part of ThunderCats lore we should expect to see, the website says Paul Sopocy's script "was to follow Lion-o’s origin myth from young cub to his...

Over a year ago, actor Tyrese Gibson said that he might be involved with a Thundercats movie, but since that time there seems to have been very little activity with the project. The project was slated to be directed by video game veteran Jerry O'Flaherty.
Now, Movieline has obtained several pieces of concept art created by O'Flaherty for the project. The images include Lion-o, Third Earth, and Mutant Attack. You can check them out below, and be sure to head on over to Movieline for the complete set.
Thundercats is based upon the '80s cartoon franchise, and concerns a group of humanoid cats (with feline names like Lion-o, Tygra, Panthro and Cheetara) who must flee their planet of Thundera after it's destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer, bent on killing them off.

We haven't heard anything solid about a "Thundercats" movie since Tyrese Gibson said that he might be involved with it over a year ago. It was supposed to be directed by video game veteran Jerry O'Flaherty, but there has obviously been no movement. There hasn't been much movement on the "Thundercats" movie based on the 1980s cartoon series that was proposed a few years back, but that hasn't stopped people from pondering what the live-action adventures of Lion-o, Cheetara, Panthro and the rest of the warriors from Thundera would look like on the big screen.
Back in December, a brilliant, fan-made "Thundercats" trailer hit the 'Net that cast Brad Pitt, Vin Diesel and other prominent actors in the film, but now we have our first look at some of the actual concept art created for the movie. Initially intended to be a directing vehicle for longtime art director Jerry O'Flaherty, "Thundercats" has been stalled since 2007, yet the four images posted online offer a nice look at how the movie was envisioned and what it could look like if it ever gets rolling again.

Everyone has their own '80s cartoon franchise that meant something to them, and mine was ThunderCats: The Rankin/Bass series followed of a race of humanoid felines from the planet Thundera, forced to evacuate after their home comes under siege by the fearsome Mutants of Plun-Darr (who looked a bit like reptilian Ernest Borgnines.) Yes, I still hold a fond place in my heart for Lion-o, Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, Snarf and the rest, and so Warner Bros.' announcement a while back of a Thundercats movie filled me with the warm, fuzzy feelings one typically associates with watching Saturday morning TV while eating peanut-butter-and-grape-jelly sandwiches. The script, written by Paul Sopocy, was to follow Lion-o's origin myth from young cub to his anointment as Lord of the ThunderCats, and was to be directed by veteran art director Jerry O'Flaherty.

The art designer of best-selling video games like Gears of War and Command and Conquer has been signed to helm the previously announced ThunderCats movie.
Variety reports that Jerry O'Flaherty had been looking for a project to take the leap into feature films and the adaptation of the popular 1980s animated series seemed like a perfect fit. O'Flaherty says, "It feels like a natural thing for me to step into. Games have come so far now. The last four years of my life have been about bringing the energy of film making into the video game experience."
Unlike other animated properties that are being translated to the big screen, ThunderCats will be CG-animated. O'Flaherty will work with screenwriter Paul Sopocy on the script which is expected to retell the tale of Lion-o's coming of age as the leader of the heroic humanoid cat team. No mention's been made of voice...
