[Editor's Note: This post is presented in partnership with Time Warner Cable Movies On Demand in support of Indie Film Month. Today's pick, "Air," is available now On Demand. Need help finding a movie to watch? Let TWC find the best fit for your mood here.] With its sleek cinematography and post-apocalyptic aesthetic, Christian Cantamessa's science-fiction thriller "Air" may have the look of a blockbuster, but much of its success comes from its indie budget, which forces the drama to be dramatically contained to psychological thrills. The film stars Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou as engineers tasked with preserving humanity's last hope for survival in a future where breathable air is all but extinct. In the exclusive clip above, Cantamessa and Reedus share their thoughts on what makes the film so special. Make no mistake: "Air" isn't your typical post-apocalyptic...

“Djimon Hounsou is nothing short of astonishing, bringing to life a character that might have confounded lesser actors,” says Sam Moffitt in his review for the sci-fi film Air.
Directed by Christian Cantamessa and co-written with Chris Pasetto, Air takes place in the near future where breathable air is nonexistent. Virtually all of humanity has disappeared and those chosen to reestablish society reside in a controlled state of suspended animation. Two engineers (Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou) tasked with guarding the last hope for mankind struggle to preserve their own sanity and lives while administering to their vital task at hand. (Trailer)
Playing in theaters and available on iTunes and Digital HD now, the film has the feel of a science fiction from the late seventies and eighties and features a nostalgic score from composer Edo Van Breemen.

Humanity has almost disappeared. A biologic weapon has gone viral and wiped out almost all human life on the planet. Somehow a handful of intelligent, educated people are kept in suspended animation, far underground. Tended to by a couple of engineers who are also in suspended animation, at 6 month intervals the two engineers are awakened, make sure the sleeping people are kept alive, and then go back to sleep. During their time awake they have only one hour and 40 minutes of time to check all the systems, tend to the sleepers, take care of their own needs, and then go back to sleep.
But something goes wrong, doesn’t it always in science fiction? Especially post apocalypse science fiction, of which Air is just about the most grim and depressing vision of a post collapse landscape I can imagine.
The two engineers are Norman Reedus as Bauer and Djimon Hounsou as Cartwright.

Looking for some less mainstream sci-fi films in the year ahead? Then here's our list of 10 genre movies to look out for in 2015...
If you've been keeping an eye on next year's schedules, you'll probably already know about some of the major sci-fi films due for release in 2015. Ridley Scott will leave Matt Damon stranded on the red planet in The Martian. Colin Trevorrow will unleash a new breed of dinosaurs in Jurassic World. George Miller will be bringing us his belated Mad Max sequel Fury Road, Neill Blomkamp will show off his robot sci-fi comedy Chappie, and then, of course, there's Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
But what about the smaller genre films, the ones that don't have the marketing budget of, say, Disney's Tomorrowland, or the brand recognition of Star Wars? Those are the kinds of films we're focusing on here: the lower budget,...

(Cbr) At Comic-Con International, Skybound Entertainment premiered the teaser trailer for the Robert Kirkman-produced sci-fi thriller Air. Directed by Christian Cantamessa from a script he wrote with Chris Pasetto, the film is set in an underground facility that houses cryogenically frozen people who are intended to re-establish society after nuclear fallout renders Earth’s atmosphere unbreathable. Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) and Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy) star as custodial workers who struggle to hold on to their sanity — and their lives — as they maintain the last livable place on the planet. “The film is full of hope,” Cantamessa said during Skybound’s Comic-Con panel. “It’s just my way to kind of give hope that there is a future, and the best way to experience it is maybe seeing the other side first, and then you can appreciate what you’ve got,” the director said. “I think...

It’s not easy being the last two men on Earth. Or taking care of the last people on Earth. Well, something like that, I guess. Check out the first teaser trailer for Christian Cantamessa’s “Air,” which boasts the executive producing prowess (whatever that means) of “The Walking Dead’s” Robert Kirkman. Ol Kirk brought along his “Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus to play one of the film’s two leads. The teaser is very mysterious, and I’m already trying to guess its plot twist. Oh come on, you know there’s a plot twist. I think I have it figured out going by what little evidence is presented, but I won’t say just in case I’m right. Air is about two custodians who struggle to hold onto their sanity living in an underground bunker with cryogenically frozen people meant to re-populate society. Starring Norman Reedus,...

With practically no dialogue, the teaser trailer for Skybound Entertainment's Air debuted at Sdcc this weekend, and we have it for you right here along with a few highlights from the panel.
Director Christian Cantamessa described the film to the crowd assembled for Skybound's presentation, "[It] is full of hope. It's just my way to kind of give hope that there is a future, and the best way to experience it is maybe seeing the other side first, and then you can appreciate what you've got."
He added, "I think the best science-fiction is talking about our society and our world."
Co-star (with Djimon Hounsou) Norman Reedus said, "I'm really excited about this film. Christian's going to be a great director, I can tell."
Kirkman explained the setup, "Norman and Djimon are playing maintenance workers in a makeshift cryogenic facility in a missile silo that was put together in a hurry...

Imagine being a custodial worker in a bunker that’s the last livable place on Earth. The air outside is unbreathable, and a select group of humans are in cryogenic slumber around you. This is life for workers Bauer and Cartwright, but great responsibility and a dark secret could threaten to destroy their sanity and the human race. Produced by Robert Kirkman and starring Norman Reedus, Air is hitting theaters next spring and a teaser trailer was released yesterday during Comic-Con.
Set to come out in the spring of 2015, Air is the first feature film from Skybound Entertainment. Joining Reedus in the movie is Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator, Blood Diamond, Fast & Furious 7), who plays Cartwright opposite Reedus’ Bauer. Christian Cantamessa (co-writer of the video game, Red Dead Redemption) makes his directing debut with Air, based off a script by himself and Chris Pasetto. Right now Entertainment Weekly is scoring all the goods from the upcoming Air, produced by Robert Kirkman and starring Norman Reedus; and today those goods include another photo of Reedus from the film. How about spreading it around a little, guys?
Air (formerly Wake Cycle) co-stars Reedus and Djimon Hounsou, who portray workers tasked with maintaining one of the underground bunkers set up to preserve the human race after the Earth's atmosphere has been rendered toxic.
Sandrine Holt ("House of Cards," "The Returned," Terminator: Genesis) also appears in the film, which is slated for a spring 2015 release. It's directed by Christian Cantamessa and produced by Kirkman, David Alpert, Chris Ferguson, and the Sinister/Insidious team of Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and exec producer Bailey Conway.
The film takes place in an underground facility, where the world's greatest scientists, etc., are placed in sleeping tanks after a nuclear fallout. The previous title's "wake...

Not content to just fight zombies with his fellow survivors on AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” Daryl (aka Norman Reedus) is breaking loose and starring in a new movie with “Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman, who is producing. The film is currently in production and is directed by videogame director Christian Cantamessa, making his directorial debut. “Air” co-stars Djimon Hounsou and Sandrine Holt, and finds Hounsou and Reedus playing “two custodians who struggle to hold onto their sanity living in an underground bunker with cryogenically frozen people meant to re-populate society.” You can read an interview with Kirkman about the movie here. No word on when you can expect the sci-fi thriller, or where, though sometime 2015 looks like a fair bet.

Thoughtful sci-fi thrillers only come around once in a while, which explains our enthusiasm for Coherence, Snowpiercer and Edge of Tomorrow in We Got This Covered’s mid-year retrospective. But looking to the future, there are quite a few possible winners on the horizon, including next year’s Air, which reteams The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus with that series’ creator Robert Kirkman (on board as a producer). Of course, it’s too early to say whether the movie will be a success or not, but what we’ve heard about the project so far is promising.

We are only a few weeks away from the geeky awesomeness that is San Diego Comic-Con, and studios are lining up to show off their upcoming slate of projects. Today, Warner Bros. announced details on what they plan on bringing to the show, including the DC Comics based TV shows, Batman anniversary celebration, and first looks at the final Hobbit film and Mad Max Fury Road.
If you're planning your Sdcc weekend around what could be announced, then these schedules will come in very handy for you. WB has now announced their schedule of events and broken down what they expect to show at this year's event. From the sounds of it we'll be getting our first teasers for The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies and, thankfully, Mad Max: Fury Road.
While some are wondering at the absence of any mention of Batman v. Superman, I wouldn't get too upset just yet.

It’s sad that many gamers find it surprising when an established franchise takes a quality step into the world of video games, especially since many of these series are full of interactive potential. Luckily, J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series has had many successful releases, including both movie tie-ins and original works that delve deeper into the rich mythology that millions of fans love.
Since Monolith Productions took over work on the intellectual property’s video game license, fans have been anticipating their in-development project, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, which looks to bring a grittier perspective to the archetypal fantasy landscape. As if the talent behind this entry’s plot wasn’t enough to raise some eyebrows (the story is being written by Christian Cantamessa, the mind behind Red Dead Redemption‘s epic tale), Monolith and Warner Bros. Warner Bros. Interactive have released an all new trailer for Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, but instead of focusing on the gameplay, this trailer is all about setting the tone, and establishing the story that gamers will be playing through. Call me crazy, but for me, the most exciting things about video games are the stories. That's why I gravitate towards more story-focused games and never got into the Fps/multi-player genres. Lots of story going on here, and some interesting concepts that haven't really been explored in the Lord of the Rings license.
