ABC is passing on its pilots.
The network has passed on Anthony Anderson-fronted Public Defenders and Ellie Kemper-led Keeping It Together, which is a remake of British comedy Motherland, as well as dramas The Hurt Unit, starring Melissa George and Ben McKenzie, and Judgement starring Sex/Life’s Sarah Shahi.
ABC Signature is, however, planning to shop The Hurt Unit to other networks and platforms, while 20th Television will be shopping Public Defenders and Judgement.
The move comes as it still has decisions to make on series Home Economics and The Rookie: Feds as well as The Good Lawyer, which was a backdoor pilot spinoff of The Good Doctor.
Last month, ABC handed a series order to Drew Goddard’s pilot High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson. The project, which is based on the popular French detective series Hip, was the clear front-runner all development season.

If broadcast Pilot Season is any indicator, the Peak TV numbers are in for a rude awakening.
A decade ago, ABC, CBS, The CW, Fox and NBC collectively ordered an eye-popping 98 comedies and dramas during Pilot Season 2013. That figure, the most since THR began tracking overall volume in 2012, is now considered a relic of the past.
With the Covid-19 pandemic effectively wiping out Pilot Season 2020, the networks were forced to lean into the year-round programming strategy many had discussed but hadn’t really executed. Now, the shift is in full swing as the overall volume of pilots ordered across the five networks is likely to hit another low after they collectively picked up 35 comedies and dramas last season.
What’s more, the economic downturn has also prompted broadcasters to be more selective in how many scripts they buy and which among those will actually get made. Network executives — including new presidents at CBS,...

TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek at their arrival at the hotel. As Mika (Kimrie Lewis) leaves the others, Kenan (Kenan Thompson) can’t help but ask, “Did you all notice she was half-naked up underneath that cover-up?” But as Tami (Taylor Louderman) sees it, “Good for her. A woman that knows what she wants.” To that, Gary (Chris Redd) scoffs, “Unlike you,” before explaining, “David’s only crime was loving you too damn much.” Tami disagrees. “No, his only crime was crying every time we had sex,” she says. “It’s called a tear-gasm, and it represents strength in some countries,” he tells her. Kenan Thompson branched out this TV season, not only returning for his 18th season of “Saturday Night Live” but also starring in his own NBC sitcom “Kenan.” This required him and co-star Chris Redd to fly back and forth between New York and Los Angeles on multiple occasions. As Thompson says in an exclusive new interview for Gold Derby, this involved “coming in and doing the show on Saturday — that was my entire focus for Saturday — and then not partying, because there’s no parties during Covid, and just get back up and catch a flight to L.A.” Watch the full video webchat above.

An eye-opening conversation. In this exclusive clip from tonight, March 30's all-new Kenan, single dad Kenan (Kenan Thompson) braces himself for his daughters' first sleepover. As he prepares for this major milestone, Kenan runs into co-workers Mika (Kimrie Lewis), Pam (Fortune Feimster) and Tami (Taylor Louderman). "No, this isn't all for me," Kenan notes as he carries large bags of takeout food. "Is that what you asked?" Mika responds, "No, but now that you mention it…" Realizing he's caught with an extreme amount of comfort food, Kenan explains that his daughters are heading to a sleepover. He adds, "I'm alone to do whatever I want. It's...

Kenan Thompson’s been on television for the better part of three decades. His broad smile and enthusiastic delivery immediately broke him out from the crowded cast of Nickelodeon’s “All That” years before he did the same on “Saturday Night Live,” the adult inspiration for the show that first made clear he was a star. Almost 20 seasons of “SNL” later, Thompson is striking out on his own to headline the first show that bears his name since “Kenan and Kel,” the slapstick 1996 sitcom in which he played, to use a fitting reference from the same era, the Brain to Kel Mitchell’s Pinky. Twenty-five years later, Thompson is an established veteran of the medium and one of its most immediately recognizable faces. What does it look like for him to have his own show now?

This means that Superstore's sixth -- and final -- season, and the freshman season of Mr. Mayor, will have wrapped their runs by that point.
“While the Stone family endeavors to keep their friends safe and make their enemies believe the unbelievable, new challenges will test their trust of the callings and each other,” the description for Manifest teases.
“But sticking together is more important than ever, because no matter what happens, it’s all connected.”
Law & Order: Svu will remain in the 9/8c time-period, but its Christopher Meloni-led spinoff, Organized Crime, will launch April 1, in the 10/9c slot.

“Saturday Night Live” stars Kenan Thompson and Chris Redd may be branching out into the sitcom world for NBC but that doesn’t mean they are closing the door on their late-night sketch series work.
“I haven’t decided to leave,” Redd said of “SNL” during a virtual panel discussion on Tuesday. “I’m just having fun being able to create with one of my best friends and also be able to still go and and do sketch. I love sketch. I don’t want to see it as an exit strategy; I just see it as it another way to create.”
The duo will soon be seen double the amount on the Peacock network, as they star in “Kenan,” which is set to premiere on Feb. 16. Thompson is the self-titled character, a widow, father of two and morning news show host who is trying to figure out how to...

ABC has canceled freshman drama Emergence and sophomore comedies Bless This Mess, Single Parents and Schooled as well as the new Kids Say The Darndest Things revival with Tiffany Haddish.
This cancelations are part of a big round of renewal decisions at the Disney-owned network today, which included the pickup of 13 current series for its 2020-21 slate.
While the cancellation of Emergence was considered likely, bubble comedies Single Parents, Bless This Mess and The Goldbergs’ spinoff Schooled all getting the axe was surprising, especially given the auspices involved. "Maybe the time spent there chasing your dreams is better off spent here, chasing a paycheck." Lionsgate has released a trailer for a comedy titled 2 Minutes of Fame, formerly known as #TwoMinutesofFame (oh do I hate hashtag film titles and I'm glad they changed this one). The film is about a wannabe comedian who becomes internet famous after making impressions of another comedian. He heads to La to try and achieve greater fame, but ends up in the cross-hairs of the veteran stand-up comic who "plots a rude—and hilarious—awakening for Deandre." Jay Pharaoh stars as Deandre, with Keke Palmer as his girlfriend, and a cast including Katt Williams, RonReaco Lee, Kimrie Lewis, and Valery M. Ortiz. This looks solid, with good humor, but also some key lessons to learn about family, life, success, and fame. Might be worth a look. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Leslie Small's 2 Minutes of Fame,...
